Welcome to Season 1 of the Starcraft II Amateur Cup League hosted by SC2Clans.org!
(All matches played on NA server)
Registration Open until September 1st
Week 1 matches begin September 5th

For those of you who don't know, we ran the (Wiki)SC2Clans Team League this summer which was an awesome event. We got to see some of the hottest up and coming teams battle it out for weeks, all being casted by some of the best up and coming casters in the NA semi-pro scene. Now we are ready to switch gears a bit and host an event for the individuals across all the leagues!

Format

The league will follow a similar format as our Team League, with players being placed into groups of 8 and playing a round robin; 1 Best of 3 match per week for 7 weeks. The top 4 players from each group will advanced to a single elimination playoff bracket.

The league will be separated into 3 divisions:

  • Division A - Masters/GM

  • Division B - Platinum/Diamond

  • Division C - Bronze/Silver/Gold

Participants: + Show Spoiler +
http://sc2clans.org/players

Schedule of Events

All matches will be scheduled for Wednesday night @01:30 GMT (+00:00) for the entirety of the event (reschedule requests are allowed but is at the discretion of your opponent).

Maps

Because this is a for fun league, and because I admire the map making community and want to help spread their work, the starting map for each week will be a map chosen from the TeamLiquid.net map makers community. After the first game, the loser will select the next map from a typical MLG/GSL map pool that will be announced later on. No vetoes allowed.

Registration

Entire league information and rules can be found at: http://sc2clans.org/league
To register for the event, please fill out the registration form at: http://sc2clans.org/leaguereg

Tournament hosting will be provided by Binary Beast. Free registration with SC2Clans.org and BinaryBeast.com is required.

Signups will be taken on a first come, first served basis. Each division will accommodate a number of players up to the following typical formats: 8, 16, 32, or 64 (max). Once your registration on SC2Clans is approved (please allow me adequate time, I'm only 1 man and I work 40+hrs/week IRL), you will be emailed a link to join your bracket. Players MUST register on the site to participate in the event. Players who don't make the cutoff will be placed in reserve to replace first week no shows.

Be sure to follow all the action at SC2Clans.org, on Twitter @SC2Clans, and on Facebook.com/SC2Clans.

If you have any questions or would like to be involved with the league, contact admin@sc2clans.org.

This is an amateur league and is really just for fun. The truth of it is when money is on the line, I end up spending 90% of my time dealing with cheating accusations, and I'm sure a decent percentage (10-20% maybe) of those accusations are probably true but are extremely difficult for me to prove.

During the team league this summer, I would say probably 33% of the teams accused another team of cheating, and it wasn't shocking when two teams would start pointing the fingers at each other. In fact, in the lower division I'm still dealing with this sort of thing. When money gets involved, emotions run high and combined with the nature of online gaming it has a tendency to turn ugly fast.

Another sad truth, there is little to no money to be given out at this level. I could of course accept an entry fee for the top division and pay out the top 3 spots, but like I said above, it creates a situation that I'm just not willing to deal with again even if it is someone else's money on the line instead of mine.

But like I said before, this is just meant for fun. I really hopped that the lower skilled players would find that having 1 match per week would allow them time to practice a particular match up each week and would greatly improve their skill level. Anyone familiar with the Chobo Team League can testify that this sort of setup has worked very well as many of its participants have been promoted once, twice, and even three times during the course of a season and/or off season.

So players are improving and get a great competitive experience out of it on a weekly basis. That's the real prize.

Oh come on, one of the major points of playing in the league is to help you be a better player!

Not during the course of this event. There seem to be a lot of other events for teams at the moment, and I'm not ready to jump back in that hot water just yet. ;P

Hopefully this event will help spread the clan scene to some lower level players. The scene needs a better foundation I think that helps the cream rise to the top.

Also some clans that are recruiting my discover some new talent as well.

This is not a team league, nor is this the place to be posting that sort of thing....

Anywho, here are the latest registration numbers:

Masters+ Division: 12 players
Plat/Diam Division: 22 players
B/S/G Division: 5 players

Come on all you lower leaguers, signup already. I want to actually be able to play in my own league! :p

I sent you a PM about that. Let me know if it works. If it doesn't I will just make a hard copy note of it and enter you that way.

this should be fun. Question though, will it be possible to reschedule a match if both players agree, i.e., my college classes get in the way?

Absolutely.

I set a night and time so that everyone can easily remember and play their games on a regular basis and not have to worry about scheduling their match up each week. But we all know that real life gets in the way sometimes, that's why rescheduling is allowed, but it is up to your opponent to allow it.

Hopefully everyone will be friendly about rescheduling and remember that what goes around comes around.

That would probably end up bad for you. Everyone is signing up with intentions of playing on Wednesday night. So while I know rescheduling will be taking place, I can't promise you that you would be able to reschedule every single match. No matter what, everyone will likely play someone who can 'only play at the regular time,' and it could end up costing you several games over the season.

Which links are you talking about? And I don't recall sending out any links in emails in the past few days. You are in the groups: http://binarybeast.com/xSC21208197 so not sure what the problem is.

According to the website you haven't logged on since Aug 21, so that may be the problem??

Yes you are, but if you wish to you can register anyway and wait in the chat channel SACL C as a reserve in case someone doesn't show.

To everyone else, its game night baby!!! Be sure to be in your respective chat channel before 8:30 to meet your opponent:
SACL A
SACL B
SACL C

I (oTvWarEagle) will be in all the chat channels if anyone needs me, but I will also be playing my match so, forgive me if I don't respond right away.

The binarybeast link works. I was referring to the links in the OP and in the email that I received September 3rd which I just realized is actually just a notification that I received a message. I sent you a pm with what the message said.

See you tonight!

That's because you never registered for the tournament via the registration page, you just joined the bracket. That's why you weren't added to my email lists and thus never got any emails. I also have been posting everything everyone needs to do in order to be included and ready for the tournament tonight on the SC2Clans.org homepage.

Anyway, the groups have been made already and we are set to go tonight. The best I can offer you is to be online @8:30 tonight to fill in for any no shows. There is of course a list of people waiting in reserve, the big question is though how many will be online tonight ready to go.

Forget it, I'm quite certain that when I signed up that all there was to do was join the binarybeast page. I guess it's my fault for being busy trying to figure out what's going on several other team and individual leagues to comb through your news posts. So much disorganization and bad communication. I guess that's why they call it "amateur".

This is from the original post here where the tournament was first announced:

"Registration

Entire league information and rules can be found at: http://sc2clans.org/league
To register for the event, please fill out the registration form at: http://sc2clans.org/leaguereg

Players MUST register on the site to participate in the event. Players who don't make the cutoff will be placed in reserve to replace first week no shows."

You are just too lazy to read.

And you haven't even logged into sc2clans.org since June 1st. If you actually came to the site that is hosting the tournament (what a ridiculous thought! o_O) you might find it's actually well organized and easy to figure out how to participate. You show up the day of the tournament and ask what the hell? Now that's bad communication.

Don't use your 'being busy' as an excuse for your laziness/stupidity and come into my thread and try to down talk me.

I didn't check back because I was quite content in whatever signup procedure I followed back when this was first opened. I guess there's no way to prove anything, but I know with 99% certainty that I followed it correctly. So I guess it has to be left at that.

Only other thing is that having to signup for multiple things is an inherently flawed and unnecessary system. Poor website design doesn't help either.

Hi,

So now that week one is done I have registered (late, obviously lol) just in-case to replace no-shows the first week.

I sadly did not find out about this until one day AFTER registration closed (boourns). Will you contact those in reserve who have received a spot via no-shows through e-mail or whats the plan?

Thanks,

Makwa
