His life is falling apart (the girl you see he presumably lost), the shot of his face in the water symbolises him drowning in all the problems he has. The "I hate you" I think refers to self-loathing (he is maybe also seeing his reflection in the water?). In the shot where he is in the water he is unattractive and unhappy, but then he becomes attractive and happy after the bottle of monsieur j replaces the "I hate you", meaning that monsieur j can make you attractive and therefore help you keep the girl, remove your self-loathing etc. | ||
