Mass zerglings maybe? You just have to bait out enough forcefields to get your zerglings close. It's difficult but it should be doable.

is there any time to appropriately use them? spores would be better vs stargate...vs terran lol?..zvz roach/infestor

i feel like mutalisks on that map would be devastating seeing how huge the map is, why are zergs not using them? mass spine crawlers and mass mutas, then slowly go to BL infestor once u trade efficiently with mutas. Is there a reason zergs stopped using this?

You know, dear Zerg players, no one is denying that Hydras are awful. Rest assured, you have all our sympathy :D

I know, he was dead when that hydra den went down.

Really like the Puzzle build. I think its one of the safest way to defend against the ~12min mass roach attack. Take a 3rd off of 1 early robo and ~5gates. Good sentry count, and most importantly, a VERY important high immortal count. He had 4 or 5 both games 1 and 3, and those immortals basically win the game right there.
The setup with taking the 3xGas expo and walling off the "normal" 3rd with gates was also very smart.

I feel like going muta would be predictable...i.e. its a good map for muta but also for blink stalkers

Well to be fair I understand having small numbers of hydras to back up the roach infestor army. But even then, if your army is even 1/3 hydra it's probably too much.
Vs Terran I agree, it's pretty lol.

We have seen Hydras curbstomp gateway armies several times. Not all units must be easy to use like the herp derp roach

Not balance whine, just Hydra whine. The metagame has phased them out long ago. The map is just too big for hydras to be even a possible choice. If it was smaller then perhaps you could do something with them but damn its a huge map. Why is that an excuse ? So it's alright the unit sucks on a big map ?
No. The unit sucks on every map.
IF and only IF the reinforcement distance is short (nydus, creep spread, close positions), then a zerg can hit a timing after 3-4 immortals and before the colossi, where he can kill an expanding protoss.
But it is 110% all-in. If the colossus range is upgraded or the colossus count is at 2 or more, then it is gg. So the unit sucks on every map but in really few cases it can work as an all-in unit.

Yes he would, what kind of logic is that? That's like saying that you are forbidden to transition because you've invested a few hundred resources into a certain tech tree, even though that tech is now useless.

im getting tired of seeing zerg get raped... are there just no good zerg players right now or does the current metagame really put them at a disadvantage?

About the only cool thing in that game was Puzzle walling off the nat -> normal third path and playing up a corridor to the triple gas base. Otherwise it was immensely boring T_T

Are you really denying that the Hydra is a weak unit? That's like denying that SC2 carriers suck.

It may be the new maps

While I agree that Hydras aren't great in most situations, it's pretty clear most of you haven't been on the receiving end of a good old roach hydra beat down!

I as protoss will not do an attack that relies on a timing with immortals on that map. Immortals are damn slow, they would never get to where I wanted them in time for the timing. Thats why the immortal sentry was used defensively and not offensively.
Im sure Terran would not do something like a 1-1-1 on atlantis spaceship either, if the protoss forces siege tank leapfrogging it would take AGES to get across the map.
Big map, far away third taken maybe something fast that exploits the map size and mobility of a protoss who opens robo, like mutalisks. Or defensive macro play and slow push with broodlords.
But to send 40 roaches across the map and rally 20 hydras that show up when the roaches are dead, thats just a bad decision.
Hydras aren't amazing or great but they are good for certain things and bad for others. Not every unit is a marine.

Hydralisk are "good" in early all ins, vs protoss who go cannon defense, as they have long range to kill every gateway and cyber core and pylon that make the wall, without any stalkers or photon cannons being able to shoot back.
