Hello everyone! IGN Pro League is thrilled to announce our newest tournament! The Ye Olde Map Tournament features some of the most amazing maps ever created by Blizzard and has a lineup of some of the best players in all of North America! This tournament is meant to be a fun throwback to the early days of StarCraft II and may serve as a way for us to see how far the strategy and skill have progressed since the first time players set foot on Scrap Station or Kulas Ravine. If you're a fan of nostalgia, not-so-balanced maps, and some fun StarCraft games, you better not miss this! Oh, and these games will be played LIVE for your entertainment. =)
When: Wednesday, Apr 25 12:00am GMT (GMT+00:00) (we will also have a European re-broadcast as usual at Wednesday, Apr 25 4:30pm GMT (GMT+00:00))
Format
This single-elimination tournament features 16 players from the North America server and is a best of 5 format. This match is being played for the round of 16. The winning player will move on to the Quarter-finals and the loser will be eliminated entirely! Keep in mind that each round increases the prize money!

don't mean to be a negative nancy but I think this is a terrible idea. forces players to practice on old maps which is basically a waste of time, not to mention they're all unbalanced. I think this is something that's more appropriate for random people instead of pro gamers who should be spending their time trying to actually improve.
Why have i never heard of this? I think it was mentioned a while back somewhere, but i give TL like a hundred hits every day, r/starcraft a ton also and i had no idea that 16 games had been played? Are there VODS?

You are a negative nancy and players don't have to practice these maps if they don't want to. It's super fun for the audience to see old, imbalanced maps being used in a nostalgia-tourney.

Besides entertainment, is there even a reason to see a DeMusliM vs. Nony show-match ? I mean there skill level aren't even close even if DeMusliM isn't in the best shape lately.

I'd say that there's a more than decent chance of no terrans in the finals. Demuslim and Illusion eliminate next round (that's if they even make it that far with both against Toss), and Sleep is a step above Avilo, with a rusty QXC having to beat out State, then Violet, or even Axslav, who beat Select.
Cool idea for a tournament. Something a bit different and forces players to think. I think Demuslim would normally beat Tyler but Tyler might be a better pure thinker so the weird maps might favour him.
It's funny how everyone forgot a banshee kill a queen 1v1. People fear fighting queen now. In Beta players were all about killing zerg with air because they only made 1 or 2 queens max.
I don't get what avilo is trying to do at all. This build is terrible for this map, which is all about getting that nice and big PF up at the third and not allowing Z to get one.
Edit: This game looks like it was played over a year ago. I'm especially liking the playing without marine upgrades.
Jesus take this terrible foreigner already. I probably watched too many matches with good Korean terrans - actually it irritates me when i see such a terrible play.

Major mentioned Slayers terrans scroll in and out constantly vP, making it easier to see the obs blur. I think he may have stolen that trick.

Yes, but most don't. It's infuriating. Just make a turret near the front of your main or wherever you mass your troops, and then another at your third, prevents dts, and lets you have vision of those observers without scanning because that is where an observer will go.

At first when I saw that nexus I wasn't very sure it was a good move. But hey, maybe DemusliM had not seen and prepares for a 4 gate that is not coming. Oh boy wasn't I wrong. Gratz nony!

These games were so much fun. So much nostalgia and I agree with DOA, you feel so guilty when you see these strats you can't do anymore, but use to give people nightmares.

The maps are terran favored, but the terrans didn't play well. I don't think anyone would even attempt to argue that Avilo is as good as Sleep, and NonY pulled out some really good builds for those maps that Demuslim did not respond to at all correctly (Hint: He one base all-inned, which you have to do on these maps). Demuslim... expanded on incineration zone.
So yeah, even on ridiculously good maps for you, bad play for the map can result in you getting your face stomped in.
Anyone remember Socke vs Jinro on Desert Oasis at the MLG Jinro won?? Coming into it Jinro said he feared Socke as he had never beaten him and then BAM they produce a 50 minute monster that was fucking amazing
Good lord Nony looking dominant in Ye Olde Map Tourney . . . makes you wonder truly how maps make such a difference in someone's play. I think it's clear from this that should Nony practice enough on the new maps etc, he'll be crazy good.
