Supernova did really well but his army always seemed much weaker than it should be given his huge advantage... in the TvP matchup you just max on bio, there's no real high tech units (besides a few ghosts) that you mix in to make it really dangerous. It was always a danger that genius would kill supernova's relatively weak army at some point and roll him before he could reinforce. Terrible idea, by the time you max with BCs the Toss would have had ample time to scout the switch and prepare an ample defense, + all the extra burst and firepower of BCs is negated by feedback, which also rapes a big chunk of a BCs HP, you'd have to EMP your own BCs, in which case again you can't benefit from having Yamato. Anyway, if someone would have told me last season, that Genius would lose a long macro game to a Terran, on Daybreak, and more specifically to Supernova, I'd have laughed in the guys face. In TvT there have been late game BC switches which have gone completely unscouted (cf virus vs supernova today), no reason why you couldn't also catch a P off guard. Especially since the standard game is to just make bio all game, there would ordinarily be no reason to scout the terran's base. Also re: high templar, that turns into a micro battle where the terran wants to get yamatos off before he gets fedback. Absolutely irrelevant, Virus was already ahead and containing Supernova, additionally Supernova threw away a huge chunk of his Viking fleet. Additionally protoss has more persistent and harder to stop scouting via obs. Edit: There is a reason why BCs and Carrier games are the exception, not the rule. There was time hardly anyone used infestors at all, let alone zvp. After months and months struggling with roach hydra corrupter, pros finally realised they could be good (after being shown how by the likes of destiny). (And then infestors were so good vs p that blizzard nerfed the fuck out of them.) Back when they were roach hydraing i'm sure people suggested infestors, and they would have said something along the lines of "oh but the protoss can just build high templar, there's no point". Shouldn't diss a strat till it's been properly tried. Infestors were buffed/changed from a pushdelaying support unit to the dpsbackbone of zerg to make them useful. They were hardly used ever before the buff and for good reason. It took months from the buff till they were used. The fungal 8 sec -> 4 sec was aaaages ago.
The main strength of FG against Protoss is in the snare anyway, so much synergy with Brood Lords. The damage buff was really nice and made them much more useful but Infestors should have been seeing use even before that. Even if the buff were to be reverted at this point you would still see Infestors in the late game Zerg army.

Congratulations to Supernova and Naniwa.
Some really good play out of both, will be interesting to see what tomorrow holds for both of them.

LOL, Naniwa aces another group!
Kind of bittersweet, though, as I specifically wanted Supernova and Virus to go down :S

Wel gl in round of 8. Hope you win. Cause my predications never come true. stfu. Real constructive comment to a genuine problem with giving Seeds into GSL, especially for players like Naniwa and Huk that have never qualified. Because of this, compared to MC, MMA or DRG who received seeds after they had already qualified in previous seasons, there will always be the taint of illegitimacy to their results and the feeling that they were unearned. Any argument that performing well proves that they were earned seeds goes against logic, if they were good enough in the first place then they would not need seeds to qualify. I too hope that Naniwa does not win this GSL because if a foreigner is going to win it should not be because of GOM's charity but because they qualified, worked their way up through Code A and then finally won. Take oGsTheStc as an example, if he wins this GSL it will mean so much more because he fought his way through all the stages of GSL finally to make it to Code S and win, his excitement at making it through the up and downs clearly shows how much more meaningful results are when you know that you achieved them yourself.
Are you serious? Winning Code S is much tougher, and a much greater achievement than qualifying for it. If Naniwa wins GSL Code S, by far the hardest and most prestigious tournament in the world you think it will be illegitimate?
That's hilarious.

I have no problem with you expressing you thoughts like that, however his post reeked of petulance "I hope you win, because my predictions never came true" so I responded in kind.

As far as i see it:
GSL seed into losing in the first round -> undeserved GSL seed into winning matches -> deserved
Naniwa deserved his seed with his Code S performance, he's not a "free win" like some of the previous seeds.

All this talk about the seeding process is stupid. If you get a seed you've proven that you can beat and/or go toe to toe with Code S/A players, if you win matches in your group or advance you deserved the seed, easy as that.
Also not, with 75% of Code S players falling to Code A and having to fight back, Code A kind of is an extension of Code S to the extent that if you are a Code A player you're really good, with potential, but just haven't shown it yet, players that have been in Code A for a long time have usually managed to go up to Code S eventually.

You can apply that arguement to alot of things in life I guess. "Never help someone on their way, give a helping hand, support anyone else then ourselves, lets not give a chance to anyone. " Imo that kind of disposition only slows evolution and growth down. Its a narrow and stiff way. You need fresh air and a bit of a stir up now and then or things goes stale.
He brought a high quality game play that was very entertaining and he won pretty clearly and with that I think he proved he did deserved it. Lucky to have been given a chance? yes but that has nothing to do with deserving or not imo. and if he wins how is that not deserving to be there?

Interestingly though, in Naniwa's interview he was more afraid of virus than supernova, yet he 2-0'd virus :D

All this talk about Naniwa not deserving because of the direct seed is non-sense. That's only true if he's not winning any matches.
The fact that he's going through Code S matches and winning, should also show that he has a GOOD chance of getting through the qualifiers since he's essentially beating harder/better players. I know it's a "shortcut", but that's the advantage for being a GOOD foreigner.

Virus played insanely bad vs naniwa though

Grats to Naniwa and Supernova. Nice to see Naniwa making most use of that seed, he showed today again he can roll with the big boys. Curieus to see how far he's going to make it.

Naniwa, you glorious bastard. :´D
Too bad Virus didn't win the rematch against Supernova to give me all my liquidbets.
And what's up with this "King in the North" nonsense that I'm seeing? He's from Skåne in the far south. Skåne doesn't even have a proper winter. In fact it's a joke. I like my half-Dane brothers, but none of them can ever claim the throne. :p

Its better to get 4th place than 3rd place in this group...
