Format
The Evil Geniuses Master’s Cup Series League will feature 12 teams in a round robin format with each team matchup containing at least four best of three games between two teams. The top four teams at the end of the season will advance to the playoffs on a two day live broadcast weekend. Results Team Liquid vs. Fnatic
Lots of cool match ups, looking forward to this one!
Tyler vs. Moon for sure to be a fan favorite. HerO vs. alive is another interesting one, hopefully Hero pulls this one out but alive has been on such a roll lately.
Assuming Fnatic play aLive as ace, if TL's ace is Taeja, they have a semi-decent chance to win, in any other matchup, I'd favor aLive by a huge margin.
Zenio and Taeja should win for TL, as should Moon for Fnatic... so if Hero can pull the win (the upset? really close?) over aLive, then TL can win 3-1... otherwise... ace match... and aLive is on fire recently.

I'd say you may call it an upset, aLive has done much better than HerO in all of the tournaments they both entered recently. It's possible, but it would be an upset in my opinion.
Holy shit!! Nony vs moon. Both players seeing little air time recently, moon especially. It's probably going to turn out to be a pretty important match too, as I don't see a 3-0 coming for either side.
Maybe Liquid want sto give all of their players some exposure. But I have the feeling Nony isn't their forth strongest player. Especially Sheth and ret would have been stronger joices, but maybe also Haypro or TLO.
I can´t really predict the ace match. Most likely Fnatic will send out aLive, but although he showed signs of improvement at IPL, I don´t really trust his TvZ. I think, Ret or TLO could actually take him out.

He won a series against Darkforce. Do you have any other examples? Cause he got stomped at Lone Star.
Team Liquid winnign 3-1 :D I am honestly disappointed with Moon's results in SCII so far; he hasn't been playing well at all and NonY is playing really well so should be good! Rain beating TaeJa wouldn't surprise me though.

If Fnatic don't play aLive, TL wins.
i wouldn't count out TL using Zenio as an ace. aLive has shown less the stellar TvZ as of late. Zenio could very likely defeat aLive.

That's fine in the short-term but long-term teams like Liquid, Fnatic, EG, and coL are undermining the foreign scene with these roster changes. Not only is it hurting up and coming foreign talent but also foreign viewership as the "Foreigners vs. Koreans" storyline has been, by far, the most compelling aspect of competitive SC2. Maybe over the next year that will be replaced with a "BW pros vs. non-BW pros" narrative, but I think that's only interesting to a small percentage of the community.
Too many people discounting NoNy - his great PvZ vs Darkforce and Moon's general meh-ness in SC2 currently makes me think he has a solid shot! Gogo TL and nony especially! :D

I'd imagine that due to Fnatic's Korean-heavy lineup Liquid are bringing out mostly Koreans so there are fewer cross-server matchups. Though you do raise valid points, Liquid's foreign roster do play a big role in their teamleagues most of the time.
Anyway, for what it's worth, my predictions! Zenio: he's got really strong ZvZ Hero: in reality I think alive is more likely to win this especially given his online level, but the heart is overruling me here Taeja: guy's just a very strong player, although Rain is no scrub I think he's not on Taeja's current level.

Just to be clear: I don't fault any foreign team for picking up these Korean players. They get results and they're probably even cheaper than foreigners. It just seems like we're heading in a direction where every important SC2 match will be Korean vs. Korean. And that's going to make things pretty boring.
SilentBonjwa to crush HerO and proceed to do so with anyone who he faces in the Ace match.
ByuL 1-2 Zenio (Zenio is extremely good in ZvZ, ByuL was used as a ZvZ sniper recently though, might turn out to be a great series)
aLive 2-0 HerO (might depend on maps, generally said after beating MC I cant see HerO taking a Bo3 from "SilentBonjwa")
Moon 2-0 Tyler (I cant recently recall any outstanding series from any american besides Sheth, and "the Fifth Race" has still lots to prove to his Fans)
Rain 1-2 TaeJa (while TvT is without a doubt Rains best matchup, so it might be TaeJas, TL will pull it to the Ace)
aLive 2-0 TaeJa (The TvT king vs a top 3 TvT, yet TaeJa wont beat the IPL champion 2nd time in a row)

Many (most?) of the NASL games are cast live and, if they aren't live, they are replays from earlier that same day. I am not sure whether NonY's game was live, but it was for sure played on the 12th.
This is the previous show, Kings of Tin. It's running long. I get it, they were in a game - they wanted to finish it. They should have looked at the clock before starting their last game, but no big deal. They are 20 minutes late though, can't they speed up the closing words?

i don't understand. unless they're both on the same channel, like a playoff game going into overtime, why would KoT running over effect this? this is a scheduled event, starting on time is the whole reason you post a start time. you're saying, hey we're gonna start this at 9, not we're gonna start this after all our other obligations are finished.

Both events run on onemoregame.tv. They are usually pretty good at ending the preceding shows, which from Monday to Wednesday would be Kings of Tin, Inside the Game and Live on Three, two hours after they start, apparently this did not happen this time around. Usually when there has been a delay it has been because of a delay on the part of the EG MCSL, no idea what was the case today though.

Really wish they would enforce some kind of sensible color scheme. As much as I like letting players go with their choice, it can really make ZvZ hard to spectate, especially if you have some issues with color recognition to begin with.

Sen sometimes does a similar build in ZvZ but I honestly think Sen is a better ZvZ'er than Zenio (also gets more spines if he suspects an all-in).

That 2nd game was in no way a BO loss. It was more of Byul getting a horrendous engagement and from their on Zenio just outplaying him.
The second game Zenio was ahead the second he went fast spire. It was his game to lose. Byul played like shit, but he was still behind from the get go.

It was a pretty greedy build, going all drones for larva with 4 queens and 2 spines. Byul attacked with speedlings, and Zenio couldn't hold.

It works if:
1) Your opponent never looks at anything.
2) Your opponent never attacks for 7 minutes.
3) Your opponent randomly decides the answer to mass droning with no units is to try to out drone you.
I think Zenio's build had some interesting potential. The window for Byul to do damage there was actually not that large. If he waits a little longer than that, then roaches will be out. If Zenio just built some lings instead of going all drones, he'd be able to defend until roaches, and then he'd be in good shape.

Ice fisher at least had slowlings out, and tons of spines. That build didn't even have lings, it was as if Zenio was trolling.
The idea of Ice Fisher is to drone heavily while relying on spines for defense, so theoretically you don't need lings. A spine is more effective than 6 lings for defense if you put it in the right spot. Zenio just didn't make enough spines.

Ice Fisher allows you to drone heavily because gas is forsaken until both bases are saturated, then all 4 geysers are simultaneously taken. So no speed, which means no aggression. Ice Fisher uses lings, but without speed. Ling production is basically a must for ZvZ.

The only reason he was behind in the mid game is because he let his third get sniped by lings when he had roaches out. He had the units to repel the lings, but they were out of position. He would have been on 3 bases before zenio, and he was up on drones anyway. I can understand how such a terrible engagement snowballing can make it look like his build was inferior, but it in fact was not.

I think it's weak comparatively looking at other tosses, but it's not JYP level for sure. I think his PvP and PvZ are strong though, and some people blame his PvT for the reason he isn't consistently getting deep in Code S, possibly a bit underrated.

It very well could be. Though to be honest I want to see him play more against Terrans around his skill level before I am convinced. His early game should be strong, because his micro and attention to detail can be one of his strongest points, but he also takes some silly looking losses from time to time.
Hope he finds a style that really suits him and gets to develop and flesh it out fully, because he can definitely do some very interesting things. Well, at least to me.

Even if his 3rd didn't get sniped he was guaranteed going to be behind a base without the ability to push at all while Zenio has pure map control with equal upgrades and better tech.

HerO went nexus first against a 2rax with SCV's pulled, bitbybit-style, leaving only 3 SCV's at home - HerO held it off with 2 stalkers and 2 cannons at his natural after kiting both SCV's and Marines around in his main, losing a ton of probes himself. After he held, HerO had 9 probes and aLive 6 SCV's - aLive realized he couldn't recover so he all-inned with 10 marines and his remaining SCV's and was brutally stopped by stalkers

And freaking Azael man. I remember watching him back when I was into competitive wow-arena before i played any RTS, and Azael was miles ahead of the other arena-commentators at the MLGs/ etc I saw. And now he is already turning into an amazing SC2 commentator while still probably staying competitive in WoW. props to the guy for being so competent at whatever he does.

Nothing wrong with having players you dislike. Likewise, there is nothing wrong with being a bit respectful and not making posts that contain nothing but spite in live threads though.

Pretty much, I mean I was rooting for Hero but Alive's play was extremely solid in those games, have to respect the guy's ability if nothing else.
Gotta say that today has been pretty boring. Not because of the games, but because of the half an hour break they take in between every game. -_- I think I'm gonna watch something else.
They are getting SC2 history so wrong. But it's fine by me. Rain got 2nd to MC in GSL3. He was hated for cheesing out Fruitdealer in Ro16 and that was the same season that MC beat Jinro in the Ro4.

Tough to disagree with a top 5 tvz placement when he took Nestea out of IPL and stomped curious 2-0 in the previous Code S.
On April 17 2012 11:13 Megabuster123 wrote: That was basically 3 BO losses in a row. Mirror Matchups, they're awesome.
That 2nd game was in no way a BO loss. It was more of Byul getting a horrendous engagement and from their on Zenio just outplaying him.
The second game Zenio was ahead the second he went fast spire. It was his game to lose. Byul played like shit, but he was still behind from the get go.
Going fast spire in no way makes it your game to lose...
On Metropolis against Byuls build, yeah, it basically does.
Even if his 3rd didn't get sniped he was guaranteed going to be behind a base without the ability to push at all while Zenio has pure map control with equal upgrades and better tech.
Well he would have had a nice timing had he held the third initially, and he may have been content with a slightly slower third given he was would have been slightly ahead on eco and upgrades.
I agree, however, that muta is a much better strategy choice on metropolis.

Going out of this season's GSL on the back of losing to July and Zenio(!) is what makes me doubtful I guess. But as said, I am not going to make a fuss about it, just that I might want to question mark it. Additionally, if we are bringing back last season's GSL, I guess we should also note the loss against MKP.
No doubt he is in the running for top Terran though.

Oh shit! Good points. Didn't realize that. Looks like those were from ONOG. Perhaps he isn't very adept/accustomed at handling the lag. Yeah, when you start trying to rate players beyond the top 3 its just a crap shoot guess.
How far ahead of time do players know who they are playing against? I feel like Nony would be the type of player that would benifit from a lot of anti-Moon preparation and I could see him taking this match very seriously.
Moon managed to beat Killer, ZvP is his best matchup I think. But hes so busy with family stuff, I am afraid he doesnt keep up with the practice of aLive, ByuL and Rain :-/
Ah this is the worst possible situation for NonY. I play the same style, and if your opponent goes fast 3 base, and you don't scout the fast third, you are essentially dead. You want to punish that third, and it's possible, but if you don't scout the third base, it's going to be really bad.
Nony really needs to scout that 3rd early. He assumed Moon would not take a third against his build, but Moon took his 3rd before he even knew that Nony did not go FFE. I'd say Moon was a bit lucky

Yeah as a Protoss player I was unaware of that ability. Not being facetious but it's not equivalent to flying over a bunch of marines, those guys shred Mutas, storms often just leave a lot of orange/red health Mutas

Doesn't actually kill like stimmed marines though. You can leave a pack of mutas in the yellow/orange, but more often than not that's it.

Demuslim and Azael doing a great job, just want to say that those spinecrawlers are pretty necessary. It's near impossible to stop zealot/sentry pushes with lings, you need the spinecrawlers for the sentries.

Disagree, he had to assume another 20 roaches waiting if moon's macro had been up to snuff.
Yeah I mean I find it so annoying to look at replays and see that on numerous occasions I could have gone and killed somebody, but in fact they are 40 supply behind where they should be!
Yeah the thing with 1 gate, is if a zerg knows he is going to play that style he can hatch first no problem ^_^. That's what I would do if I ever played Nony just because I know he doesn't like forge fe.
By choosing 1gate expand, Nony is being really smart. Most Z v P games now focus on dealing with FFE, and Zergs are not used to seeing the 1gate expand. Some, like Moon, may misread and prepare for a 4gate Zealot/Sentry push. Also, it messes with the timings that Zerg players are used to (later 3rd hatch- unless you want to gamble with a super-fast 3rd and hope it's a 1gate expo instead of a 3 or 4gate). As a result, Moon made roaches too soon instead of hitting that 60-65 drone count and maxing at 12. Nony is definitely using the metagame to his advantage.
Man, that overlord spot is so annoying for toss. No way to kill it even when you know its there. This is coming from a Z player. I put one there every game.
Nony may have killed the third hatch, but like no drones AND lost 4 sentries which is even more big since he didn't forge FE. Think moons in a great position.

I wouldn't blame Hero he had to go against Alive. Zenio on the other hand should have taken that series, but then again Hyul's skill is unknown right now.
I think Nony should stop using multiple hotkeys for the midgame in my opinion. You can see the delay from the FFs and when he retreats. It's great for BW but it feels so awkward in sc2. T_T;;

lol...how is HerO loosing 2-1 to IPL4 champion letting TL down...I agree to an extend that Zenio got a little too greedy with his builds but imo, he's still the better player based on the 2nd macro game
The silver lining for TL is that they put up a good fight for all games; 2-1 losses and 0-2 win over Rain is not too much dmg to the scoreboard. And there's still 6 weeks for teams to (hopefully?) drop clan wars and fall from the top.

That's because he does it TOO consistently and Moon basically played super greedy with the drone up. Nony didn't pressure him quickly enough. If he did the 1gate expo as his main build with an occasional FFE and an infrequent 1base aggression opening he would have a very flexible opening repertoire with the ability to mindgame any opponent. Instead, he did the safe expo every game and Moon figured out the pattern. Predictability leads to exploitation.

And 1 gate expand is bad for all the reasons that the last game showed.
That's because he does it TOO consistently and Moon basically played super greedy with the drone up. Nony didn't pressure him quickly enough. I have yet to see 1 gate expand consistently work against a top-level zerg and Moon is not a top-level zerg at the moment.

lol...how is HerO loosing 2-1 to IPL4 champion letting TL down...I agree to an extend that Zenio got a little too greedy with his builds but imo, he's still the better player based on the 2nd macro game

Ok so anyone who ever lost a game whether or not it was to a better player or an equal player lets his team down? Good to know.

Yeah. Flash too. Talk about an effing loser. Why his team sends him out anymore is beyond me.
demu and azael are making me frustrated as a casting duo. demu likes talking alot, azael likes arguing alot. I <3 demu casting, dont know enough about azael to decide if he is good. these two are constantly stepping on each others toes, would not like to seem them casting together again.

You have not seen 1 gate expand against top-level Zergs at all - because top-level Protoss players think that FFE is the only viable build.
