They did qualifiers for Season 3. IIRC it was competitive and top Koreans got the spots. But NASL's format retains a lot of their previous season's players, and Season 2 was the boycott.
I think there are quite a few good matches to be had this season. Not every game is going to be a razon thin contest between top tier players, but there's a lot of back story behind each of these players, and its a good opportunity for people looking to support the foreigner's scene to tune in and do just that.
Of the three best foreigners missing, Naniwa doesn't like NASL; I don't see him coming.
Stephano - well, there's goods and bads with inviting him seeing his forfeits in online tournaments and NASL's problems with forfeits the previous seasons. But he is popular, and having him raises the competition, thus I do hope that NASL approached him though I won't blame them for not taking the risk.
HuK, I don't know. The sole obstacle is that he's cross-servers, and for other players that's not an obstacle at all. But with HuK, he hates playing cross-servers down to a fault. Don't know what he thinks, but I imagine negotiations have been made, and there's 2-3 Protoss spots left.
I hope the seeds for Season 4 are left only to the players who made the playoffs. There needs to be a better turnover rate in order to keep the player pool fresh.

There are still unannounced people. Huk and Stephano will definitely be in the last row of players. I imagine Naniwa has expressed interest since he's in their poll for who the last protoss should be and he's currently ahead of MC by ~100 votes so he might very well be in the next season

Something like this would be best. Maybe having only 16 players remain is too few, but there definitely needs to be a better turnover. Players should at least have to win half their games to stay in the league. There were a ton of players below .500 to qualify for this season.

If you read the article it says:
On the 22nd of April, the Anthill will come alive with StarCraft as the players, casters, and cameras invade the venue to broadcast the Sunday ShowDown live from the pub. Open to the general public but limited on space, interested attendees are advised to arrive by 4pm PST to watch the Division 5 matches BarCraft-style in the company of the NASL casters and crew.
Pretty sick if you ask me! $2,000 showmatch with players flown out EVERY WEEK!
I think it has the potential to be super awesome if done well, especially with the players being on-site AND having a live audience!
