How were the invites done? Tournament organizers bias or did most of the good players just straight decline the invite?

Violet, Sleep, Stephano, quite a few people. Likelihood of them doing so? Stephano and Violet have good chances.

I don´t know, sleep is 0-4 against Goody, I doubt, that he can beat Polt offline.

I loved seeing everyone at the SXSW event, I hope everyone who I talked to there gets a chance to check out this event!

Let me preface this statement: I had no hand in the invites. I do not know how they were done, why they were done how they were and so forth. All of this is conjecture based on my meager knowledge of how tournaments function behind the scenes.

My guess is that it was several factors. Money, scheduling, proximity, and finally, yes, popularity. These sorts of events are not cheap. You have to have a large enough prize pool to incentivize good players to come. You also, often, pay for the players to come. You pay for flights, accommodation and so forth. For example, look at IEM, they had to provide rooms for those players and some of them where unhappy about it. This means that players that have sponsors who will help pay, or who are already in the area and those who live near by are higher priority invites. Then you have to consider the fact that every pro player in the world has a LOT going on. There's that big red bull lan this weekend as well, I'm sure there are other events too. This again, gives certain players priority. Lastly is popularity. I could pick a lot of really talented players without huge fanbases, hold a tournament between them and have no viewers. They would play top quality games but people wouldn't want to watch. An example of this is at a previous tespa lan ( Tespa 2) we had VileHawk, ColTrimaster, LightBinksi, (binksi had no team at the time, Tri was just added to Col, I believe) and several other GREAT players and ~200 viewers. You need big names in order to draw in viewers. You need viewers for commercial revenue but more importantly to grow your brand. The better your brand, the more sponsers are willing to give you and the better your future events are going to be.

So, maybe that does count as "organizer bias" but I consider it a necessity.

I think all of them were unhappy about it, just some, or to be more exact, one, had to vent his anger out in the public about it. ;-)

Yeah but Goody is the indisputable next bonjwa of sc2. Plus he plays the polar opposite style of Polt's.

Yeah, any of those can beat Polt, but I would say Polt is the strong favorite. Just like MMA was a strong favorite with MC at IEM World Championships and Supernova was a strong favorite at IEM Sao Paolo. Should be able to beat everyone at the tournament, but could lose to any of the top zergs there depending on condition.

Winter Assembly Polt, with his TvZ, probably doesn't lose, but who knows what state he'll be in. I hope the last player is another Korean to add to the mix.

I paid for my pass on their site: http://studentorgs.utexas.edu/tespa/lonestarspectators.html. I would assume you'd be able purchase multiple passes by entering the info of whoever is coming with you.
