All the drama aside, being a huge MKP fangirl I'm so glad he won.
I felt kinda sorry for him after he got his trophy though. We all know this tourney was badly organized; after he packed his things from the booth tons of people from the audience suddenly went up the stage and surrounded him before he could do anything or go anywhere. It was utter chaos. People started pulling on him from all sides, asking for autographs, pictures, whatever. He was cornered from one end of the stage to the other and looked very startled and didn't know what to do. Must've been pretty scary for a timid 18-year old kid who doesn't speak English.

Just just just got home from the event (passed on attending the after party...I was invited, but a humble spectator after all, and it didn't feel right. point being that's how friggin' nice everyone was.). I believe I can bring some unique insight into the event. I only watched the stream for day 1 and was there live for day 2. Been lurking here since forever but am absolutely compelled to speak my mind now.
I want to share what I saw, heard and experienced not to throw anyone under the bus, but rather to make sure that the Filipino SC2/e-sports scene is not misrepresented or tarnished by THE MISTAKES OF AN INDIVIDUAL. We, the fans, want more tourneys, more Tastosis, more awesome games, more E-SPORTS. We, the fans, are ready and willing and love e-sports with a passion, too. Rachel/Seltzer even told me that they're used to events screwing up that badly, especially first-time ones. She reassured me that PPSL Day 1 is by no means enough to scare her or her colleagues away from returning to the Philippines for e-sports events. (Looking at you, IPL.)
So of course, the stream was absolutely horrible on the first day. Us Filipino SC2 fans were really embarrassed and could not believe how badly "Gus" dropped the proverbial ball. (Much on this later)
Cut to Day 2. I have to say, the live event was simply AWESOME for the live fans. The SC2 fans in attendance had a blast and so many students and office workers and just so many different people from different walks of life were exposed to SC2. I was there from start to pack-up and aside from one internet problem and one dropped player (MKP I believe), the event went rather smoothly from a live spectator's POV. Thank you Torch, Seltzer, Tastosis, Justin, etc. for really stepping up for the fans and doing more than you were paid to. You really saved the event and Gus' behind to a certain extent. I watched Torch play the role of floor director the WHOLE DAY; speaking to players, the stream crew, the video crew, etc. Tastosis really upped everyone's spirits every time they took to the mics; making light of the flaws of the event and just being so nice to the fans that swarmed them.
Though the stream was horrible (day 1) and passable (day 2), the live event was good for the local SC2 scene and e-sports in the Philippines. The event, for how flawed it was, was but a first step and really really really did a lot for the fans and the community (even revealing, according to a lot of insiders, a few "scam artists" along the way).
I made it a point to speak to A LOT of people at the event regarding all the problems. The general consensus was that THIS WAS NOT THE BEST THAT THE PHILIPPINE SC2 SCENE HAD TO OFFER. As it turns out, numerous SC2 and LoL and HoN events have been successfully held just a week or two prior to the PPSL (solid streams and insane live events....by other more organized and, according to insiders, more "honorable" individuals). Heck, my internet connection here at home is pretty solid as well.
The general consensus was that IPL JUST CHOSE THE WRONG PEOPLE TO PARTNER WITH and that THOSE PEOPLE looked like they BARELY KNEW WHAT THEY WERE DOING.
I don't know if revealing stuff in this manner is frowned upon here in TL, but here is some of the info I gathered from insiders (individuals, crew working closely with the organizers) that hint that THE PPSL WAS DOOMED RIGHT FROM THE BEGINNING.
+ Show Spoiler +What people who were there both days, beginning to end, were telling me :
-YoonYJ WAS NOT THE ONLY PLAYER TO NOT GET A PLANE TICKET (Several Filipinos, non AZK players, got screwed as well)
-Gus actually arriving at the venue on Day 1 at nearly 4:00 pm Philippine time. That's 5 hours late.
-Merch/equipment provided by the sponsors at the very beginning was missing and never appeared. Headphone, mouse and mat numbers were not lining up
-Dozens of HoN players steamed for 9 hours plus during Day 1 while watching Gus walk around with 4 security guys and avoid all their questions and attempts to talk to him. They apparently are suing Gus.
-Gus and AZK advertising that fans can purchase a (VIP ticket that would allow them access to the players and casters for photo-ops, autographs. People who purchased said tickets said they received no such perks and resorted to ambushing the casters/players as they walked to and from the venue. People who tried to purchase said tickets (like me) were either told that they were by reservation only, sold out, no longer available, never existed
-Gus and AZK deleting all negative comments/feedback from people on their social networking sites and totally avoiding all questions/inquiries/complaints. Allegedly, it was the IGN/IPL people that were dealing with the angry fans or updating everyone
-The entire setup was not tested beforehand; thus the insufficient RAM on one of the PC's, being surprised by the venue's internet connection woes
-It was actually Allyn Hoang who was scrambling to keep the fans entertained by organizing the BeeDuck showmatch, continually interacting with fans, even helping with camera setup ...where was Gus and why did Allyn have to go above and beyond hosting?
-Players like SaSe not knowing what time and who they were playing next, the brackets not being shuffled- making players who already faced off in groups face off again early in the RO16
-FACT : Booths were made of uber thin plywood. After the event, I walked into one and a friend into the other. We then had a conversation.
E-sports in the Philippines is in its infancy but is rapidly growing. We, the SC2 fans, implore you not to give up on us. We most certainly will need help with the next major international e-sports event....please let there be another one...many more, even. Please do not let one bad event by one incompetent individual ruin it for us, the fans. Just ask Tastosis, Seltzer, Torch, etc. ...they didn't expect us to be as numerous or as ravenous as we were. I believe we blew them away. FYI the "crowd mic" was actually off to one side on the front row....pointing at a silent fan's lap.

Well said. I watched live both day 1 and 2. I share the same sentiments with what you said above. I hope this won't be the last international SC2 event here in Manila. I'm positive that we have a better group of organizers that have great experience in setting up gaming events like this one.
As a SC2 fan, I'm still glad the event, no matter how flawed, happened here in Manila. Watching live matches of MKP and SEN made all the waiting worth it.

Still wondering what happened to half the prize pool and the $2k HoN prize, roughly $5.5k gone missing as well as plane tickets. Gus' refusal to post anywhere despite having updated his facebook page several times is a clear admission of guilt. Someone hold this lying fuck responsible!

he went drinking with the rest of the prizepool.

Word of mouth says that the amount of money missing is $12k. D: . Wanted NaNi to win that ))): .

Sad I missed the end of this tournament. The more things change the more things stay the same. Sen still has amazing ZvP but can't ZvT. MarineKing with another special event gold. Moon with another foreign tournament silver.

I was there Day 1 but I had work in Day 2.
A friend also told me the tournament woes since I got there. The bracketing and the organization. But I just wish the organizers would not be discouraged to have events here in Manila just because of one person. Just a shame that he had to ruin the reputation of Filipinos as a whole. I had to read YoonYJ's post and was really disheartened on how he was treated.
Just a lesson learned from the organizers that they should partner with the right people.
Looking for more live tourneys here in the Philippines!
I'd like to thank the community for having an open mind in thinking that this is not how Filipinos organize events or being us as a whole, and that all this blunders was caused by just one person.

I would say I was shocked by Moons placement but he it seems like he always gets second at events outside of Korea ...
