Killing the pylon is completely unrewarding for the defending player as most good tosses have a backup pylon nearby anyway.
I think not resetting WG cooldowns will make drops in TvP harder for P to defend though. P needs to be a lot more careful where they warp-in for defence.

I'm talking about a monetary loss (25%, 50% 75% whatever) to the player who has units die while warping in instead of a full refund. When doing a hard 20 probe warpgate that would have HUGE implication on the outcome of that first match.

First 4games are 4gate vs 4gate. g5 and g6 have like 3robos :p

I felt weird watching the VODs of the code A final. I've never been excited about PvP until Homestory cup turned me around. But I got to say that most of the games today was very boring and left a lot more to wish for. It looked like PvP was back at the same state as before Homestory cup! I wouldn't recommend any game of the series to someone who isn't a protoss player!
GG Puzzle, I guess :O

Just watch the g1 VOD - skipping this series seemed like a good decision.
I'll watch a pvp if its players I have an interest in. A bo7 between 2 toss I have no opinion on is quite skipable.

The only game "interesting" was the 5 Set... I feel I lost my sleep hour (because it didn't last so long) watching that...
|
I learned something in this PvP build your robo closer to your ramp so your immortal is there quicker. Thanks Puzzle!

As Puzzle said in his winner's interview, only seeing 4 gates is pretty rare nowadays. And I think that series showed why. Sure if you are not prepared for 4 gate it can pretty easily kill you. But if you know your opponent only 4 gates, you can do a defensive 4 gate and be ahead most of the time. Sure 4 gate will always have a place in pvp especially on maps like tal'darim but as time goes on we will see less and less of it.

I actually enjoy 4 gating micro wars, I know I'm in the minority, but I really love to watch PvP actually and enjoyed this finals alot.
|
Last 2 games were sick. So glad Puzzle got the Code S spot, he really deserved it. Not to mention his route to the Code A finals included him going 9-0 in games (13-2 counting the finals). Puzzle hwaiting!

game 5 was great.... really really inspired play. 1 of the best matches i've seen and not just pvp but all races.
game 6 was good.

I haven't ready every page of this thread yet, but is anybody else REALLY, REALLY happy that Tassadar lost? I try hard not to be negative, but I can't help feel like he was close to pulling a fast one on Puzzle (the player who obviously deserved to win). PvP man...this series is pretty solid evidence that we are nowhere near balancing protoss (who knows whether we should address the warpgate mechanic itself, or focus on map balance).
|
So Puzzle was another player that was Hyped to all hell like DRG, and now he finally got into Code A and won it (not sure if it's the first time in Code A, but nevertheless...) It's pretty cool how that works.
|
I felt the same way after watching this series as i did after I saw The Expendables. Lots of action, don't know wtf is going on.
Seriously though, I am glad Puzzle won since he looked to be the more solid player. Game 5's engagement was thrilling and I hope he does well in code S. Now, all that remains is for Dr. G to fight his way into code A/S >_>

Absolutely. There has to be some type of penalty, whether it's resources or warpgate cooldown (I thought at some point it was the latter, although I could be misremembering). It's ridiculous the way it is.
|
People who are suggesting a resource penalty aren't thinking properly. What if there was a drop in the Toss main, you warp in 6 Stalkers to defend (a common mid-late game situation), and Terran snipes the Pylon? That's a 750 mineral, 300 gas kill, 850 minerals if you count the Pylon. That sort of potential penalty for a player trying to defend is simply unprecedented - the only time you get that sort of damage from a single snipe is when, say, a drop gets sniped, and let's say the drop has 4 marauders in it - that's a 500 mineral, 200 gas mistake (counting the dropship) and that's when you're doing something aggressive and risky, yet still a much cheaper mistake than losing the resources for warping in Stalkers to defend a drop.
True, people are asking for that penalty due to aggressive warp-ins failing, but the fact of how balance works is that it goes both ways (offensively and defensively), and there's really nothing you can do about it, unless you think of some really, really tacky mechanic that only punishes aggressive pylons.
|
I think a great way to penalize a player with the pylon would be to give a cooldown to the warpgates that were warping, not a full time cooldown but something like 10 seconds... losing minerals might be to much.

im sorry, but where can I watch the vods for this? I am new to viewing sc2

gomtv.net You can watch the first game of every series but you need a pass to watch the complete vods.
