I honestly think that it is harder to be constantly good over a long period of time than to run through an open bracket in a few hours of playtime with little to no mindgames and almost no preperation for the enemy. So yea, I feel for Ret. I think Ret's chances on making it out of his division was much larger than him winning the open bracket tbh.

Doesn't matter, in the match between Ret and PuMa, the better player won. If there is something to nag about, then why the first place of the division stage is seeded against the winner of the open tournament.

They had the 2 best SC2 commentators in the world at NASL (artosis/tasteless), the logical thing would have been to use them for as many games as possible, but it seems like they wanted to "give everyone a go".
I can see why they don't want Tastosis to cast the grand finals. The event is called the NASL and Gretorp + Incontrol have been tied to it...they're the casters for NASL for the entire season and casting is just as fun as watching, so it's fitting that they are the ones to cast the biggest games, even if we want better.

Let's be honest,
I think the NASL imagined to Open Tournament to be a lot larger and a lot more difficult. The Season 2 Qualifier was much more competitive, but I think they were hoping for a full 1024-man tournament for both.
Winning a three-day 128 man tournament and qualifying for the playoffs is not the same as playing a round-robin against solid competition for two months.
Not to take anything away from Puma for being the man. I just think Ret should get some kind of award for slugging it out in the league. May there's bonus prize money for being first in your division or the entire league.
Meh.

Is that really how you remember the finals? Pretty absurd lol. I should remember it as something other than what it was ? I guess your a bit sensitive about lag complaints. Were you on the free or premium service? I was on 720p and didn't get a single moment of stutter or lag through the whole of Day3.
I was on the premium service and got really bad stuttering issues during intense battles, even though I have no lag issues with other streams (and even with NASL during the first 9 weeks). During battles, it would drop to 1 frame every 3 seconds, and the audio would cut out a little bit. In the last battle of the last match, I saw the two armies approach, the screen locked up and I heard Gretorp shout about EMPs. Then after a few seconds of just sitting there, it cuts to Gretorp and Incontrol talking about how Puma is now the season 1 winner.
I originally had it on 1080p+, but kept turning it down to try to increase performance, going as low as 360p before just accepting that it's not a bandwidth issue, I'm just losing signal sporadically. Like I said, it was fine during the first 9 weeks, it was only during this live event that it got really bad.

It was only bad during the moments that mattered the most, and changing the resolution didn't do anything to resolve it.
However, when it was working (which was 99.9% of the time), the quality was phenomenally good. I can only hope that the quality of the MLG HQ streams will be close to NASL's.

I agree, I honestly hope they didn't seriously expect 1024 participants when they charge a 5(or is it 10?) USD fee

It was $10.. A lot of this was discussed in the NASL Open Thread. The biggest issue with that was that they would have brought in over 10K in revenue from the Open Tournament, while only giving out a plane ticket and an 'opportunity' to win 25k. Oddly enough..that's exactly what happened. So.. basically they were hoping that the Open Cup would pay for the prize money of the finals

Free service, switched it from 360 to 240p. I'm reading that the premium service was good quality throughout.

And then I read the two message above, and stand corrected. The lag was kicking in every time there was action, making it particularly frustrating.

I'm fine with NASL having an OB wild card, but I do agree that the league winners should be better compensated, prize-wise. There should be a reward for winning the league groups, which is a substantial time investment compared to the OB. Maybe a base $1000 for every league winner who attends the finals? And maybe a group stage instead of single elimination for the finals, since I think if NASL is going to take place over the course of three days, they can afford time for a group stage.

They quite obviously didn't. The fee was to REDUCE the number of participants, and make sure that they were all (or as close as possible) competitive. (Making some $$ was a bonus.)

hi internet, i'm zac!
i'm like 400 pages late but my buddy linked me this thread. i would like to take this time to formally apologize for my shirt; however, the radiant glow from my tanned skin was necessary in adequately illuminating lindsey's stunning visage. i apologize for the inconvenience and wish you all a great day :>

Here's a link to the VODs on youtube if you weren't able to watch them live (like most of EU residents) because of the time difference. The quality isn't that great but still worth watching.

NASL should give MC the extra $25,000 anyway. He took this "production" from zero to hero in two days of play.

Give the group play winner a bye 1st round. Open bracket and #15 seed have to play in a pre-round-1 game then advance to play the #2 seed in the round of 16.
Same number of games, same exciting content. Huge non-monetary reward* for winning the challenging group stages, and harder path for the open bracket winner.
Seems like it'd work perfectly.
*Well it does mean the group play winner gets ro8 prize of 1,500 but it doesn't cost NASL anything extra.
Edit... though the one flaw of that is MC would have played Puma pre round-1 lol, but ideally in the future the league will shift around and the people in open season will be stronger.

Is there a thread for everyone to post their nasl pictures in?
