Jesus fucking christ, some people can find fault in everything no matter how awesome it may be. PuMa just gave you arguably the best series in sc2 history. He had to defeat many great progamers on his way to becoming champion, yet suddenly this incredible player does not deserve to be there? Surely Ret, who got demolished easily by PuMa without even putting up a fight, has less right to be there? And if going through the open bracket requires so little of a time/money investment, I hereby challenge all of the haters to cruise throught the open bracket with ease and appear in the season 2 finals.

It's fragmented sentence because the phrase "such as these" is not necessarily clear enough as to properly define or dictate what the object being talked about is doing or not doing. Specifically the phrase "When I read comments" can be understood as a complete sentence but upon inserting "such as these" you create a clause that is hanging.

However, the original sentence "When i read comments such as these, I ask myself whether there are protoss players to whom PvT isnt the weakest MU." is alright as a sentence--for the most part. It would be more "accurate" if it was "Whenever I read a comment similar to what you have just said, I have to ask myself whether or not there is a protoss player whose weakest matchup is not PvT."

However, in fairness, that is a ridiculously dumb sentence to say since it's far too dense and far to extended to be, as linguists like to say, a grammatical form of speech.

Oh please don't. Language Accuracy is only necessary in teaching the basics of a language. The importance of language is communication and the tropes and standards of communication evolve over time. It is the Academic's job to maintain accuracy in teaching the language but it is the "layman's" job to evolve it. Academics have to learn to catch up to the status-quo of impromptu communication otherwise they are simply removing themselves from society too much. Ivory Towers are bad for academics despite how pretty they are.

Your analysis was off the mark anyway. The problem with saying that "When I read comments such as these" is a sentence is not that "such as these" isn't clear enough. The problem is that it is a subordinate clause ("when" being a subordinate conjunction), meaning that it cannot stand alone as a sentence. See this link.

Erm, it's not clear enough because the thought behind the sentence has not been expressed. It has nothing to do with "such as these" not being precise enough (what you said). Let me give you an example. If I say:

"When I wake up"

Why is this not a sentence? Because one would be left wondering what is supposed to be attached to this. The thought behind the sentence has not been expressed, the sentence needs to be completed (for example: "when I wake up, I always want to go back to bed"). That's why it's a subordinate.

In your example, if the subordinate had been "When I read comments such as "you rock" ", the type of comments would have been precisely defined through the example "you rock" (thus what you said about "such as these" would have been "fixed"), but it would still be a subordinate and not a sentence.

This isn't about Puma it's about the NASL system. If thorzain won the open bracket and won the tournament I'd be saying the same thing. Implying that there's some racial aspect here is ridiculous and it doesn't have a place in the discussion.

This whole argument about the fairness of the open bracket player vs those who played the league "for months" validates why there is only 1 player coming from the open tournament to the grand finals. Before NASL started all I heard was whining about how privileged the invited players were, blah blah (imagine John saying blah when kpop girls are talking) and "why is there only one spot from the open tourney?" etc. etc., plus the NightEnd and DeMuslim issues.

Now that that one player managed to take the final series in an unbelievably epic 4-3 win and get a smaller fan club thread than Lindsey Sporrer's (of which I am partially guilty, <3), it's probably time to cool off the nerd jets and go back to real life where women aren't quite as stunning and we all relatively suck at SC2.

I think his point of "he just gave you the arguably the best series in sc2 history" has a fair bit of merit to it.

Puma beat Reducentropy, DIMAGA ,Sterling, linko, NightEnD, Clide, ALive to get to the finals. Not as many BO3s as the main season, but that was due to only 190 signing up for the open tournament. Would have been two more BO3s if the full 1024 was done
