Only 500 dollars for travelling? scratch everyone from Europe and Korea then.. 500 dollars will not even cover 25% of the travelling. Unless teams support there players...

Should be double elim or carefully seeded so that predicted good players will go a long time before facing each other.

I agree, I can't believe people complain, for any serious contender, $10 is not a barrier. It also actually is probably going to shave off like 2-3 rounds of play so will save you hours of waiting etc.

Good luck to everyone trying :D.

If I had a US account, I would have participated.
No way I'll buy another account to play NASL as I don't stand a chance but just wanted to go for the experience.

You can play on a temp account. I'm sure someone here would give you a trial card.

wtf, they have a lot of work running this, i am pretty sure they do not earn that much (if anything) from it. I don't think it would be a problem to even raise the entrance fee slightly. Also streaming bandwith is not for free. I think they still struggle in finding a working business model. They need to change some things to reduce the amount of walkovers and get more attention from the community. I tink marketing is their weakest point currently (same with ipl)

I think most of the people complain because the tournament hands out only 1/10th of the money they take in, forgetting about the valuable NASL spots and the one seed into the grand finals.
It's like people complain how Code A is not worth it, totally forgetting about the shot to get into Code S.

edit:

Yeah, I agree. It would be better if they just bought the tickets and hotel for the participants.
Giving 500$ for everybody, regardless if they need less or need more is kind of stupid.

The fee is not what bothers me. It's the admin overhead.

PS Poke, after seeing your MLG run I think you actually have a serious chance of qualifying for NASL season two! So goodluck with this!
I root for Euro Zergs, NA Protoss* and Korean Terrans. (Any North American who has beat a Korean Pro as Protoss counts as NA Toss)

The 10$ fee helps with the travel stipends for the winners and the prize pool, costs, etc.

Also keeps out people who sign up just to sign up, and never show.

Yeah, but it's one of the problems the players are aware of when they want to enter a North American tournament. If someone here wanted to go and try to do the qualifier for the GSL they'd have to foot the bill to travel to Korea.

They give you a $500 stipend, and flying to NA gets you another $500 since I think that's the minimum you can win if you're in the LAN finals. Not sure whether $1000 covers flight and lodging fees, but how does it compare to MLG?

Unless you are a GSL superstar, I'm pretty sure MLG covers none of your travel or accomodation expenses ... and their online pre-qualifiers have an entry fee as well.

I'd imagine that players like you are players they would rather not sign up.

I just noticed this tournament has date conflicts with Dreamhack (June 18th-20th), Geforce Pro-Am, and ttEsports, though it narrowly avoids IPL. Think that might be why a lot of players haven't registered yet.

I didn't think you were allowed to charge participation fees. How lame, not going to participate on those grounds (not saying I'd make it, but I would have at least signed up and played).
