Yes, we had about 3,000 people watching 3 different streams of games all morning. We'll be casting a lot of games tomorrow.

B: lalush, CheckPrime (checkpooh), STVirus (park yune jong), TSLSmart (jin young park), TSLRevival (kim dong hyun)

D: TSLaLive (lee seok han), rine, Fayth, Inka
E: Dimaga, TSLPuma (lee ho joon), StrifeCro, Pokebunny
F: Nightend, Sarens, Attero
G: Killer, Satiini, TSLClide (hankyujong), ToD
H: Lowely, DeMuslim, Agh, LzGamer

Better be in bracket F or H, not B (4 Koreans!).
I hope I didn't forget anyone notable. I chose 3-5 best per bracket.

Thanks for that. Was wondering about who the Koreans were!

Rain vs Major should be interesting when and if it comes to it.

I think Thorzain, Rain and Clide are in good stand to make it quite far and win.

Rain won't get past Deathangel you heard it here first! =))

I have a question about signups. Were people from the main tournament who were knocked out (IdrA, Tyler, etc) allowed to sign up for this? Thanks.

No.

IdrA is qualified for next season, cannot under any circumstances make the Grand Finals of Season 1.

Tyler is not qualified, he will be eligible to compete in the Season 2 qualifier for one of the eight remaining spots if he so desires.

Because it'd be terrible for esports if every organization starting running online tournaments where less than 5% of the entry fees is being placed back into the prize pool.

The prize pool of NASL is $100,000.

my problem here is nearly ALL koreans managed to stay in the league,

now it could be top8 will ONLY be korean

then nasl will contail like 16+ koreans (and season 3 could be 25+ koreans then)

what your idea to stop the NASL go korean only league ?

I don't really have any ideas to stop the NASL from being an only Korean league. And honestly, I think it's a huge shame on the foreign community if the league ends up being 50 Korean players... that means that non Koreans need to train harder to be able to compete!

If only Koreans are winning, then kudos to them for trying harder, taking it more seriously, and being better =D

If you want a open qualifier there is no way to stop it. Do you really want a league that would be invite only for every season? I personally wouln't mind if half the league is korean because you wouldn't see that many onesided or terrible games.

Did anyone expect an open qualification process to result in anything but more Koreans?

As a fan, I have mixed feelings about this issue.

On the one hand, I entirely agree that the onus is on the foreign scene to 'man-up' and rise to the occasion. The last thing I want to subscribe to is a farcical league, with players that can't compete at an international level. I would rather pay for a league that is 50% Korean and enjo the best level of play possible.

On the other hand, if one of NASL's long-term goals is to provide incentive for NA players to grow, and develop the e-sport scene here, I think the NASL will have to make some kind of concessions in the future, to ensure the NA players with the most potential have the opportunity to participate. This could mean anywhere from scheduling NA player games outside standard work and school hours, or providing small prizes during divisional play for participants.

I'm not sure what the solution is, but the pool of NA players aren't suddenly going to become top tier players overnight. Even though the NASL has an incredible prize pool, it's not a strong enough incentive for a 'tweeners' or up-and-coming players to quit their job or school to participant in NASL or other leagues.

I think the league will be the cream of the foreigner community, and then a bunch of Koreans. And it will remain that way until (or if) the foreign teams can get enough practise so that we have a sizeable player pool that can compete with the Koreans. There are a couple foreign players that could take down their Korean opponents (Dimaga is the one that comes to mind looking at the brackets), but unless a couple teams build up some major steam, the league will eventually become >50% Koreans.

LoL if it were 50 Koreans that'd still be awesome, it'd be the Western version of GSL baby. And on US time! Thank god~

If the foreigners can't win enough games vs Koreans even with Kor>NA latency then do they really deserve the prive money to begin with?

I'm a lot more shocked to not see all the code B players like DRG not try to get a spot for a lan event. I don't understand why they don't participate in this.

Maybe Visa issues, who knows?

The original start date for the Open was pretty close to the code A qualifier date if I'm not mistaken. Like less than 24 hours diff. Might have scared off some code A hopefuls and that's why you see so many more Koreans signing up for the qualifier as opposed to the open. Though it could be one of many things. Still a good turnout for the open and it looks like the qualifier is going to be insane.

Also, don't the finals' dates conflict with one of the GSTL days? That could have also factored into it.

i actually have a theory, that slayers sent none of their players to play in the open tournament intentionally, to give boxer a better chance of winning

most of the players signing up to the open are from team startale, which has been more active in the international scene than most koreans teams

All but, I believe, two are from Team SCV Life. One is Rain, who was just recently part of TSL.

That's not possible. With the way the brackets in this tournament are set up, a maximum of 5 Koreans can advance.

On June 23 2011 07:10 CoR wrote:then nasl will contail like 16+ koreans (and season 3 could be 25+ koreans then)
The first assessment is correct (not that a third of the players coming from one of the three major regions is objectionable or anything - as it was for NASL Season 1, the three regions were not balanced at all, with NA > EU > KR in terms of player balance).

The second assessment is a "worst case" scenario that could also happen with EU players. Imagine all the NA players falling out and being replaced by EU players. It might or might not happen, let's see how this goes on.

On June 23 2011 07:10 CoR wrote:what your idea to stop the NASL go korean only league ?
The best course of action is to keep mingling the scenes and trust in the NA and EU scene to keep improving and growing and automatically keeping things balanced.

It's kinda funny how much shit we got from everyone that we didn't at first announce that we were adding Koreans, or we didn't do enough to add Koreans... and now people are worried that there will be too many Koreans. Can't please anyone, apparently !

Honestly, the die has been cast and will fall as it does. We can't really stop Koreans without seemingly incredibly biased. If we maintain an open qualification process, which really is the fairest way, we can't really limit Koreans. If we made it favorable to Americans somehow, then it would be unfair, by definition, to everyone else. I mean, the fact that Koreans and Europeans have to play with NA lag is an inherent advantage to NA players, if you really think about it.

If American players aren't good enough, however, to qualify... there isn't much more we can do without totally biasing the competition.

That being said, I think Minigun (if he can get past Major) has a very good shot ^_^!

Xeris, I like your stance on the matter. And honestly, I don't think this'll become an immediate issue anyway. There will be Koreans qualifying for next season, yes, but we'll also have NA players and EU players qualifying. It'll be fine for the time being.

However in the long term, I would not be against a rule to prevent the league from being dominated by any one region. (like, having 35+ players from either NA, EU, or KR).

Of course, this would probably require a more segmented qualification process then two big Open Tournament, like regional qualifiers where players are vying for a certain amount of spots each, similar to the TSL3 or the WCG or the GSL WC - this obviously comes with its very own set of advantages/disadvantages and difficulties, but I don't think that very many people could honestly object to something like that.

Even above being a league of the best players, the NASL has to maintain an international makeup of players.
