I can understand for the 10$ because they fly you out but the other one-.- It just looks to me like NASL is having trouble financially. That`s a tough allegation, which moreover doesn't make sense. Being a pro-gamer means also acting professionally. You are not.

Pretty sure the $10 is to give the players an investment, however small, in the tournament. So they are less likely to sign up and not show up, and unlikely to sign up if they are just going to be wasting good players' time.

I'd rather have 150 pay $10 to join and all show up, than 1,000 people pay $0 to join, and only have 200 show up. I've been hosting tournaments for 6-7 years now. I've hosted 500-1,000 man tournaments before. About 40% of people who sign up actually show up. The point of the small entry fee is to eliminate no-shows. People care a lot more when they've invested money into it. Also, it's a small price to pay for qualifying for a $100,000 tournament. Even if you have no chance at winning the prize pool, the exposure a player gets by being in the NASL will generate you 10000x this $10 in stream ad revenue, for example.

The 10 dollars is to put a very small bar in place, ensuring less fake sign ups and no-shows. To use an example, in the NBA, 40% of all free tickets are never used. Even fairly expensive tickets aren't used if they're "comped". Have to give people a reason to value the spot. So, easiest way is to put a very small barrier (10 bucks). Should improve it and save a lot of people a good chunk of time, too (as I imagine they'll only get about 500 at most).

Signup is ending soon and there are 129 people signed up. A lot less than people anticipated, I'd wager. Looks like the $10 buy-in is a stronger deterrent than previously thought.

Even though there is a $500 stipend, most people can afford the trip without being subsidized by a team or sponsor.

I think Ret has to be particularly peeved, his "reward" for finishing #1 in the regular season is a gift against the Open Bracket champion, who could very well be much better than whoever's in the 10th or 11th spots. I think having the Open Bracket for Season 1 is okay because they did do the tourney based on invites, but I hope in the future they phase out the 15 + 1 and just take the top 16 from the actual players, make people qualify for the season and play out the season before being eligible for the $50k.

With the current amount of signups thats 1300$, if it was about people showing up, why not make it a deposit, refunded if you participate. Make it Reign! Refunding 500 people a $10 deposit is annoying as fuck.

Everyone complaining about $10 fee is probably a low diamond scrub who is pissed that he now has to pay to go troll a top player. If you have even a remote chance of making it into the NASL, $10 is nothing. If you don't have a remote chance of making it into the NASL, then either pay the $10 to support NASL and have a chance to get stomped by a pro, or stop wasting everyone's time. You bring nothing to the table other than being another 20 minute annoyance for someone who is actually trying to qualify. word.

Kay that's good. It's more fair that way IMO. How come I saw STAce in the list of notable names though, I must've misread.
