10 grand is nothing anyway. Some of you kids don't realize how much it really costs to put something like this on, even if most of it is online. The prize money is only the beginning of what they require. If NASL runs for only 2 months, has a total of only 5 full time staff, and each staff member makes 25K (barely above minimum wage, for illustrative purposes only), they just spent 21K on staff salaries alone in just two months. That's excluding any of their capital costs, prize money, stipends...all of that.
Calls everyone "kids", thinks 10 grand means 10 dollars.

I think he means that NASL will get 10 grand (=10 000) dollars of money becuase 1024 * 10 = ~10 000 dollars.

It looks like it will be a round of 128 tournament to start off because of the lack of players. There are 79 signed up. For a 256 to happen another 50 would have to sign up otherwise a round of 128 will be the start. See you all wednesday.

"The only requirement is that you have a battle.net account on the North American server, and can play all your matches." why not mention the 10$ in that sentence already? it doesn't really concern myself cause i don't have a NA account anyway, but i can understand that many ppl complain about that fee. they read the sentence above, are happy that they can join and then in the next sentence it suddenly says "oh yea.. and ofc it also costs 10$ to sign up".. not the best way to do it, really

At the very least, the 8 players who get in to next season shouldn't be questionable at this point.
Even if these 5 players make it through, Season 2 is going to so much more competitive ... although, I'm the guy that thought Tyler, QXC and PainUser would have much better showings than they did this season.

am I reading this right? 7 days from tournament deadline, and only 81 participants?

The world is made of procrastinators. I'm sure some more will show up. I'm somehow doubtful there will be another thousand though.

hey, 1 in 82 chance if i sign up now that I make it past a few rounds.... WHOS WITH ME! FOR ESPORTS!

Pretty decent shot at making top 8 actually, lulzzz~~

I'm sad that not a single korean has signed up D: Would be cool seeing some SlayerS players signing up.
Glad to see Dimaga, Demuslim, Thorzain on that list though :D

Seeding in a tournament which has an entrance fee and which has no previous results to base the seeding upon sucks. MLG did the right thing to not seed people like thorzain high in the open bracket just because he won TSL. If it is a free tournament I don't mind arbitrary seeding, but when I pay for something I expect a fair playing ground.
The problem is that this isn't a regular tournament, where you are only looking for a winner for the weekend. In this case, the top 8 get NASL spots, and the NASL team (and all us spectators I would hope) want the best players in the league. If DIMAGA vs Kas happens in the round 2, then one of those players could get a spot in favour of someone like Pokebunny. I have no problems with Pokebunny, and if he can take out Kas or DIMAGA he absolutely should earn a spot in NASL. But if retarded brackets mean that Kas gets knocked out early by DIMAGA when Pokebunny slides in without having to play anyone of that calibre, then we get worse players in the NASL and a worse viewing experience.

Actually, you have a 8 in 82 chance (6%) of qualifying for next season. Which also has a $100,000 prize pool.
This is much better odds than any other tournament -- TSL, Dreamhack, GSL, MLG -- for the largest prize pool in the world.
If you're any good you'd be an stupid not to try.

There is no foreigner not in the nasl already who's better than 1/10000 odds to win nasl if they get in except maybe thorzain. Pretty much everyone else in this open has a really miniscule chance of making the playoffs next season

If you lowered it to $5 I bet you would get triple the signups.

Please dont tell me you are serious.
I think all the moronic posts on the $10 have shown just how neccesary it was.

People aren't signing up because it conflicts with Dreamhack. It has nothing to do with the money.

I don't know what's wrong with NA tournaments, but every big tournament, players have to pay a certain amount of money to participate. How is this helping esport? This is more like greedy business than an esport competition.
Just look at EU and KR tournaments. Everything is free. GSL doesn't cost a penny to spectate or participate, and they even have free Coke drink and sometimes pizza.
This is just funny. It reminds me of those internet scam where you participate in a survey and at the end they ask for your credit card number.
Anyone worth a damn and has even the slightest bit of skill won't worry about paying $10 to be a part of this tournament. $10 makes sure people have something to lose if they sign up just to troll NASL.
