The $10 functions as a deterrent. And this deterrent seems to work quite well, as the bronze-level 16 year olds are whining in this thread instead of signing up.
10 grand is nothing anyway. Some of you kids don't realize how much it really costs to put something like this on, even if most of it is online. The prize money is only the beginning of what they require. If NASL runs for only 2 months, has a total of only 5 full time staff, and each staff member makes 25K (barely above minimum wage, for illustrative purposes only), they just spent 21K on staff salaries alone in just two months. That's excluding any of their capital costs, prize money, stipends...all of that.

Wow, thats pretty US-dominated.
Still, glad to see players like Thorzain, Dimaga and Demuslim there! They are guys who should've been included from the start.

I think with the amount of participants how, it should be possible for Xeris to seed the players in a way that there is less conflict with Dreamhack.
Dreamhack only becomes an issue with a full roster of 1024 participants.
I think the best thing that could happen for the NASL would be for a Korean to win the first season. If someone like JulyZerg could prove that you can win this tournament, despite having to play on the NA server before the sun rises, I think a lot more Europeans and Koreans would come out of the wood work.
It would be a bit of a bummer for the NA players, but as someone already noted the NA talent pool actually isn't that deep (at least not yet).

Seems like an underwhelming amount have signed up for it considering what is up for grabs :|

Can someone post the full tournament rules somewhere? I literally cannot find it on the NASL.tv website...
I know the top player of each division advances to grand finals, but how do the playoff work? 2nd and 3rd of each division play it out?
Thanks

Isn't this exactly the point of the nominal $10 fee? To keep uh.. above-mentioned people from participating when they may not show up, are not serious about competing, and have no chance of winning?

I fear this tourney could be a big fail. - one single-elimination tourney to determine next season players - dreamhack conflict - no korean signups so far (are they informed? helped for NA accounts?)
They are so many good players not in NASL, but I fear they are not signing up and if, bracket-fucks and upsets are easily possible.

Thank god some top players are coming out now. Lalush, Dimaga, Thorzain, Nightend, Demuslim, etc...
At the very least, the 8 players who get in to next season shouldn't be questionable at this point.

Yes Koreans are informed. I've spoken to Slayers and IM specifically about it.

Can somone tell me who ist the commentator, sits usually on the left side and is always present?

Not really. It's not hard to find character codes at all, if people want them they're gonna find them.

it's a good thing
$10 is there as a deterrent and to keep tournament size down. only the people who legitimately want to go to Ontaria, CA for NASL live top 16 will sign up. it saves time for Open Tournament organizers and players involved in the tournament.
