Thanks for the translation. I hope that he comes back to win a MLG, same for July. But July will have to go through the open bracket once more.

Almost all of the VODS are embedded into the player itself. You just click a button on the bottom right of the player. Unfortunately, there's no "page" that has links to all of the games.

I feel like Thorzane, Naniwa and Idra are the only players who really looked capable of taking out the koreans. Thorzane vs MC was really close, Idra looked solid in his first 2 games vs MC and his first game against MMA. Naniwa looked ok vs losira and mc too imo.

Obviously, this is the front pack: ![[image loading]](http://www.walrusmagazine.com/blogs/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/sportstrotterkenyamarathon.jpg) Just like in StarCraft 2, the best Marathon runners come from one geographical region. In this case, this would be Eastern Africa, Kenya and Ethiopia in particular. Why is this the case? Kenyans and Ethiopians train extremely hard. Marathon running is one way for them to get out of poverty. If they are part of the international elite, they can live from the price money they get at the Marathon races, and support their families as well. Consequently, the elite runners from Kenya and Ethiopia are extremely motivated, and thus work very hard to achieve success. The environment they live also helps them to improve and do better. Now, let's look at the Europe, or Northern America... Is Marathon running a viable career choice there? No.... The price money one may earn at races in most cases not enough to cover living expenses. The few elite Western Marathon runners highly depend on sponsorship deals in order to keep training; since becoming an elite Marathon runner requires a lot of effort. For all other marathon runners, it's a hobby, not a professions. While Marathon running and StarCraft 2 are completely different, one may notice a few similarities here and there. The dominating nation in the case of StarCraft 2 is Korea, becoming a pro-gamer is socially accepted in Korea; being a pro-gamer might also be financially rewarding from their point of view. In the "West" however, e-sports isn't really a viable career choice, it is not socially accepted, and financial-wise very risky. It's a hobby, but nothing more. Let's face it, e-sports, will probably never (never say never) achieve the same level of influence that e-sports such have in Korea. Can/Should you blame the Ethiopians/Kenyans for doing well at Marathons? Absolutely not. Likewise, can/should you blame the the Koreans for playing well in SC2? Absolutely not, either. As long as you see tournaments with reasonably high price moneys, pro-gamers in Korea will continue to exist, and coonsequently do well in tournaments in the West. Some people say "OMG, but Koreans winning all the time will hurt e-sports growth in the West". I don't think so. First of all, Koreans pro-gamers aren't unbeatable. Secondly, people who get discouraged by these results aren't really into e-sports anyways. Thirdly, Koreans pro's draw in bigger audiences to the tournaments. The success of the Koreans should be a motivation to play better/train harder, not a discouragement. Bigger Audiences -> More Sponsorship Money -> Higher Price Moneys -> More Competition. I think I can safely say that one reason that the MLG drew in such a big audience (both at Columbus and on the internet streams) is because of MC, Moon, MMA, July or Losira. People were excited to see those matches, and were curious to see whether "foreigners" could beat them. Again, bigger audiences were a result of their presence. Fourthly... eSports is not only about the select few winning the big tournaments; it's also about the majority, the "normal skilled" players. This big chunk of players will not simply go awayjust because a few Koreans did well at a big tournament. Have people in the West completely stopped running marathons just because a few Kenians won some big marathons? I just want to make a comment on this. I am not entirely certain that this is fact but I do recall seing some documentary during some olympics or w/e quite a few years ago regarding the african domination in the running scene. In that if I recall correctly it was stated that there was a quite significant genetic difference (aswell as the training ofcourse, do not want to give them less credit for their training nor disregard the fact that its more or less a national sport coming from living conditions and all that you said) specifically in how their calfs are shaped that also could be a reason for the domination. Wether this is a fact or not I do not know, I cba to actually doublecheck this but if someone cba go ahead =) it would explain why there more or less never have been a caucasian, atleast during my lifetime, winning the big marathons regularly. Even if a country dominats there usually sometime surfaces some super talent from a lesser country. That said, this doesnt really affect what you are discussing but in this case there is obviously no genetic difference, the difference is in general supply of hardworking gamers, a more accepting atmosphere regarding gaming as a profession and alot more opportuinties to train with equalminded players in a good enviroment. Are Koreans in general more talented... doubtful, they simply are alot more going for it and therefore its only logical having more succeed. I actually think Korea is an awsome thing for e-sports. It adds some additional carrot to the sport, beating the Koreans will always be something a little bit extra and might make players work harder and besides, w/o Korea we would not see nearly as many epic games! I do hope though that we some day get that long wanted foreigner bonjwa be it a Swede, American or any coountry really. It would make the Korean scene even more amazing to follow (asuming this person is competing there). A couple of months ago I was really hoping Jinro would become that player but he seems to have lost everything he had those GSL way back... what happened Jinro... you where one of the best macro terrans in the world... now your like...pretty bad :S
I honestly still stand by my belief that for Starcraft 2 it is about work ethic. For running, obviously a lot of it has to do with genetics but at the same time it's still work ethic. The competitors from the African continent are coming from tough, usually poverty-stricken backgrounds. Most of them are poor, most of them have almost nothing, and most of them have endless drive to succeed and improve their life.
To be honest, I think a lot of this translates to SC2 as well. A lot of these Korean progamers know their shot at success is a tough. They work their hardest and try their best. I honestly feel that western culture is much more laid back, and much more content with an "average" life. And by average, I mean a standard of living that is already much more comfortable than the rest of the world, and because of this, they don't feel that same drive to succeed.

So, if he proxy gateways, people don't like it. People don't like him going 4-gate. People don't like him going 6-gate. Wtf do you people want him to do? He went forge expand with air, and that's "abusive", and doing the cannon strategy on tal darim is abusive as well.
I mean do you want him to go stalkers with colossi EVERY SINGLE GAME? Becuase last time I checked, people complained about Cruncher going stalker, colossi, void ray every game and call that skilless too. I'm sick and tired of people complaining about EVERY SINGLE THING MC (or any protoss player) does. Sorry to inform you, but "abusive" means "playing your race". How do you expect a game to develop if people don't try to go for optimal strategies?

There is no genetic difference between Koreans and Caucasians when it comes to playing SC2 from any study I've seen.
Like I said it comes down to a few things: hard work ethic, polished training regimes, player mentality, etc.
Those are the most important though.
There are plenty of tools out there to make a player better. It's up to the players to use them.

I actually checked the Olympic marathon results after reading this post, out of the last 10 gold medal winners, only 2 were from east Africa. In 2004 in fact the top 3 was Italy, USA, Brazil.
Regardless, Koreans are doing better now simply because the RTS scene barely existed anywhere else until about a year ago, all of their top players are ex broodwar pros who honed their skills while the current foreign pros were playing as amateurs trying to fit the game around work and study.
Just give it time.

MC is the best protoss in the world, no doubt about that (Maybe Xiaot has something to say about that but that's it). His second game against Losira prove it. He is cocky because the fans in the west love this attitude, don't blame him for that, do you blame wrestler for smack talking or being confident? it's part of the show or you just want some "i will do my best" in all his itw like all the bw pros maybe?
Seriously leave MC alone! He is an amazing player, he is the only protoss who won something in Korea, if i was a protoss player, i would be automatically a huge fan of him because of all his accomplishement, can people give him credit for that?
