I guess it must've been the adrenaline, but in a normal game, any player of his caliber instantly knows it's DTs if he sees THAT few units up the ramp and instantly drops a (proxy) robo.

We will be moderating harshly in this thread. Think twice before you post. Things we are watching for: image macros, balance whining, "eagles", player bashing etc. We encourage civil and reasoned critique of our moderation - please post it in the website feedback forum. Please don't complain about MLG stream quality or MLG itself. They work very hard to provide you with an enjoyable service. Enough with the racism discussions, this is a LR Thread. And congrats to MLG for such a great event! Nani 4gated MC, who was going for a quick DT. Not seeing either of the tech buildings, Naniwa broke the units at the top of the ramp, got up next to the probes and began to dance. Just after the dance he moved another step forward, and saw the shrine finish. MC had a proxy pylon already up, put a DT into Nani's main, GG. I was afraid that the improvement to UI and simplifying/improvements of game mechanics would put the skill ceiling a bit too low so that even players not practicing in that way could compete with them. Also it's great that tournaments in this early life of SC2 already becoming global. Western scene will only learn and get better with each MLG now that they know what they are up against! i second that. foreign scene will need to learn from this and improve

We will never get to see such high level games if the Koreans are not invited here. This is the epic truth. You will never improve if you don't expose yourself to the hard truth you are not good enough. All these ethnocentric thinking makes me wanna puke.

Let's have a look at a typical sight you will see at most Marathon races around the world. Obviously, this is the front pack: ![]() Just like in StarCraft 2, the best Marathon runners come from one geographical region. In this case, this would be Eastern Africa, Kenya and Ethiopia in particular. Why is this the case? Kenyans and Ethiopians train extremely hard. Marathon running is one way for them to get out of poverty. If they are part of the international elite, they can live from the price money they get at the Marathon races, and support their families as well. Consequently, the elite runners from Kenya and Ethiopia are extremely motivated, and thus work very hard to achieve success. The environment they live also helps them to improve and do better. Now, let's look at the Europe, or Northern America... Is Marathon running a viable career choice there? No.... The price money one may earn at races in most cases not enough to cover living expenses. The few elite Western Marathon runners highly depend on sponsorship deals in order to keep training; since becoming an elite Marathon runner requires a lot of effort. For all other marathon runners, it's a hobby, not a professions. While Marathon running and StarCraft 2 are completely different, one may notice a few similarities here and there. The dominating nation in the case of StarCraft 2 is Korea, becoming a pro-gamer is socially accepted in Korea; being a pro-gamer might also be financially rewarding from their point of view. In the "West" however, e-sports isn't really a viable career choice, it is not socially accepted, and financial-wise very risky. It's a hobby, but nothing more. Let's face it, e-sports, will probably never (never say never) achieve the same level of influence that e-sports such have in Korea. Can/Should you blame the Ethiopians/Kenyans for doing well at Marathons? Absolutely not. Likewise, can/should you blame the the Koreans for playing well in SC2? Absolutely not, either. As long as you see tournaments with reasonably high price moneys, pro-gamers in Korea will continue to exist, and coonsequently do well in tournaments in the West. Some people say "OMG, but Koreans winning all the time will hurt e-sports growth in the West". I don't think so. First of all, Koreans pro-gamers aren't unbeatable. Secondly, people who get discouraged by these results aren't really into e-sports anyways. Thirdly, Koreans pro's draw in bigger audiences to the tournaments. The success of the Koreans should be a motivation to play better/train harder, not a discouragement. Bigger Audiences -> More Sponsorship Money -> Higher Price Moneys -> More Competition. I think I can safely say that one reason that the MLG drew in such a big audience (both at Columbus and on the internet streams) is because of MC, Moon, MMA, July or Losira. People were excited to see those matches, and were curious to see whether "foreigners" could beat them. Again, bigger audiences were a result of their presence. Fourthly... eSports is not only about the select few winning the big tournaments; it's also about the majority, the "normal skilled" players. This big chunk of players will not simply go awayjust because a few Koreans did well at a big tournament. Have people in the West completely stopped running marathons just because a few Kenians won some big marathons? I just want to make a comment on this. I am not entirely certain that this is fact but I do recall seing some documentary during some olympics or w/e quite a few years ago regarding the african domination in the running scene. In that if I recall correctly it was stated that there was a quite significant genetic difference (aswell as the training ofcourse, do not want to give them less credit for their training nor disregard the fact that its more or less a national sport coming from living conditions and all that you said) specifically in how their calfs are shaped that also could be a reason for the domination. Wether this is a fact or not I do not know, I cba to actually doublecheck this but if someone cba go ahead =) it would explain why there more or less never have been a caucasian, atleast during my lifetime, winning the big marathons regularly. Even if a country dominats there usually sometime surfaces some super talent from a lesser country. That said, this doesnt really affect what you are discussing but in this case there is obviously no genetic difference, the difference is in general supply of hardworking gamers, a more accepting atmosphere regarding gaming as a profession and alot more opportuinties to train with equalminded players in a good enviroment. Are Koreans in general more talented... doubtful, they simply are alot more going for it and therefore its only logical having more succeed. I actually think Korea is an awsome thing for e-sports. It adds some additional carrot to the sport, beating the Koreans will always be something a little bit extra and might make players work harder and besides, w/o Korea we would not see nearly as many epic games! I do hope though that we some day get that long wanted foreigner bonjwa be it a Swede, American or any coountry really. It would make the Korean scene even more amazing to follow (asuming this person is competing there). A couple of months ago I was really hoping Jinro would become that player but he seems to have lost everything he had those GSL way back... what happened Jinro... you where one of the best macro terrans in the world... now your like...pretty bad :S

This is then manifested in the results. With regards to the marathon runners , this is both a genetic grace as well as a cultural one - in Kenya running is generally what you do for fun (in rural areas) and is not to mention essential for everyday life in more remote areas where there is little or no public transport and distances between locations and resources aregreat. Forgieners did pull off some successful wins against their Korean counterparts and I have every faith that with the right support and training we will soon see forigners and Koreans both giving each other a RUN for their money (see what I did there?)
