We will be moderating harshly in this thread. Think twice before you post. Things we are watching for: image macros, balance whining, "eagles", player bashing etc. We encourage civil and reasoned critique of our moderation - please post it in the website feedback forum. Please don't complain about MLG stream quality or MLG itself. They work very hard to provide you with an enjoyable service. Enough with the racism discussions, this is a LR Thread. Cut it out. -- updated 7:55 KST

When Jinro went back-to-back in GSL semifinals, did the Koreans get all mad because he didn't speak fluent Korean in interviews? Were they mad because some random white kid they never heard of was doing so well against their all powerful Koreans? No. The Korean fans embraced Jinro, got behind him, and even rooted for him against other Koreans. It would be awesome if others could do the same.

I'm trying to explain all this as clearly as possible because I know someone is going to quote this and be like "well it's the foreigners' fault for not practicing as hard" No, it isn't. There's so many factors involved that are out of everyone's control as to why Koreans get better practice than foreigners. The only way that it's going to ever come to even ground is a lot of money, and a lot of time. It's not going to happen overnight, and it's going to need a sponsor or wealthy individual with a lot of money to make it happen, and then a lot of time after that for foreigners in a perfectly set up team house to work up to the level that Korean houses are at. And as sad as it is to say, it hasn't happened yet. I'm not saying it's impossible for a foreigner to beat a Korean, and I'm not saying it's impossible for foreigners to one day have the same intensity of practice that Korean pro teams have, but with how things are currently I just can't imagine people expecting any other results than MLG's.

Sjow, Thorzain, Naniwa, and Idra proved they at least stood fighting chances against the Koreans they faced today alone, not counting Day 1 and 2. IIRC a few of the group play matches were 2-1s as well. The potential is definitly there. ya many of them didn't know where exactly they stand in terms of skill with the koreans. this will serve as a measuring stick, and hopefully will encourage them to work even harder If it doesn't the foreign scene will fall further and further behind....sigh. It will either way. The only way it wont is if foreigners suck it up and continue to challenge and face Koreans head on. Any other result will lead to the western scene falling. You can't ever reach the best if you don't face people that are better than you, so any kind of separation from the Korean scene is helping to widen the skill gap. i wonder how long it will take foreigners to relize that you dont go to korea to get rich. You go to korea to get good. oh i think they all know, but they want to be rich/comfortable more. (99% of them anyways)

No. The Korean fans embraced Jinro, got behind him, and even rooted for him against other Koreans. It would be awesome if others could do the same. Yeah, this would be best. But to be fair, I think a lot of foreigners do embrace Koreans. Just look at the MMA chant at the end of the finals. They aren't outcasts or anything. This argument is based in a fringe part of the community. But it should still be discussed, people need to get their ideas out there so we can talk about them and perhaps grow beyond them.

MC may be better than IdrA I don't understand why people are giving someone shit for this, there is only one person who is ARGUABLY better than Mc right now. Only one person? uhh Both NesTea and Mvp have won GSLs since MC won his last, and MKP and Polt have both knocked MC out of the last two GSLs, and then Alicia knocked him out of the currently occurring one. Sooo.. what? That's like saying Fruitdealer is still one of the best players in the world. Don't get me wrong, MC is one of the best players in the world, maybe the best Protoss (probably), but saying he is undoubtedly the best or second best players in the world is just wrong. He did win Copenhagen and Dreamhack, but in GSL he hasn't won a single thing since March...

You go to korea to get good. Agreed, playing in Korea just for a couple month will improve a player greatly. I would love to see the likes of naniwa and other just to train and play in korea for 2 month. It is not 2 month lost (even if they win $0) if they emerge are better players. You become better faster by playing against the very best.

Thats like celebrating become Rank 1 of your Platinum division. Yea, it is an achievement but no one on the global level will care or respect you for it. If you want to have a legitimate, respectable tournament that draws viewers and crowds worldwide, you better be damn sure you allow the best of the best to come to the tournament regardless of where they came from.
