We will be moderating harshly in this thread. Think twice before you post. Things we are watching for: image macros, balance whining, "eagles", player bashing etc. We encourage civil and reasoned critique of our moderation - please post it in the website feedback forum.
Please don't complain about MLG stream quality or MLG itself. They work very hard to provide you with an enjoyable service.
Enough with the racism discussions, this is a LR Thread. Cut it out. -- updated 7:55 KST |

BS. MMA got pushed hard in his Sheth games, dropped a game to Sjow. MC lost 2-0 to Idra and came close to losing to Tyler. Moon dropped tons of games in groups. I think the skill of the koreans is on avg higher now, but that's not cause they're korean, it's because of their gaming conditions and their culture. I think making that culture global will make everyones skill better, and I think we can do that by bringing the Koreans to mlg.

No comment... I can't believe you actually support this position.

Actually, any tournament without koreans (after results like this) will be deemed 'irrelevant' by a large part of the people that watch SC2, and that'll hurt viewer numbers more then anything else. The only reason a tournament is relevant is because it offers the highest level of competition.
If this tournament (and others) would have been a wash (koreans and foreigners on equal footing), it wouldn't be such a big deal, but as it currently stands, 'foreigner only'-tournaments are going to become like the special olympics. Very good for their skill level, but irrelevant to the sport as a whole.

MLG is a Starcraft 2 tournament not a popularity contest.. If you don't like watching better games with more multitasking and micro than I really don't know what to say.

MarineKing would be great at MLG. The guy has a great personality and shows amazing emotion during games. The logical choice should be NesTea, MVP, SlayersMMA and whoever wins the super tournament. NesTea - earns it by being the reigning GSL Code S champion. MVP - earns it because he won the GSL world championships recently. SlayersMMA - as reigning champ needs to be given the opportunity to go back and defend his crown. Super tourney winner - self explanatory. They'll probably bring a legend (July raging through the open bracket was so awesome) and an up and comer (Don Rae Gu? Alicia?). Getting the MLG invite is going to be something that Koreans are going to be fighting for now.
i would looooove to see DongRaeGu in the next MLG :D

And it seems I've officially become a nerd today. I shed my first nerd-tear (just one) when the crowd was chanting MMA's name. It was an amazing experience, and makes me appreciate SC2 and the community/players it all the more.
you are not alone with that that was so great to see the people cheering for a strange guy who just win something in a computer game
esport=fans not players^^

That is some good drama combined with some damn good play. idra brought his best but MC just brought the hammer. lol agreed I think everyone can agree IdrA didn't bring his best. He had some weird read or feeling he could surprise MC with roach but he never did. Wait. So you're saying Idra wanted to lose? Well, Idra is really fuckin passive aggressive- like the way he left against MMA. He doesn't play his best when he thinks something is wrong with the game. That's not what I was saying.

So instead of wanting foreigners to improve to get to korean level u want to ban koreans so foreigners have a chance...i mean really do people with this argument even think of how stupid this sounds?

Having koreas made more viewers. People wanted to see the foreigners win.
That's why so many people are butthurt about idra losing, even though he got 4th place. They wanted idra to beat the koreans but he gave up

When Naniwa won MLG people didn't chant his name over and over. No offense to the current foreigner play, but for MLG to be a big tournament to get even more fans, it needs the best and those are the Koreans. The games that MMA/Losira/MC showed in their final three showdown got the crowd way into it. You could tell the crowd was a little bummed after Idra got eliminated, but slowly the whole thing turned around when they saw how great the play was.
MMA won over the crowd and got his name chanted by people he has never talked or interacted with.
And MC, a Korean, interacted more with the fans than any of the people who actually spoke English. He was high fiving people, talking trash, and doing ceremonies.

Does anyone know where i can find who the top 16 were from this tournament

I almost dread reading the Korean reactions to todays events. First of all the Idra GG, then the MC roflstomp of Idra and Korean Top 3 with no eliminations of Koreans except by other koreans.
I fear they've lost a lot of faith in us... maybe they should.

The best solution to this would be for foreigners to train and be at parity skill with Koreans. Time for foreigners to step up.

hopefully it's motivation for foreigners in the future.

Only NA to try and make it more of a NA results only type thing The fact that someone actually voted for this makes me seriously considering moving out of my continent...... jesus christ.... That is kind of a disrespectful reaction to someone's reasonable opinion. While I think MLG should be open, I don't see any drastic issue with the idea of a North American only tournament to determine who is the best player in NA. In fact such a thing exists, it's called the WCG US finals. Should I be tossed into the ocean because I like the WCG national tournaments? Apple and Oranges, WCG is a qualifier for international tournament which is considered the Olympics of video games. Whereas MLG is a tournament itself.
Regional tournaments are great for invitationals in general, since it allows organizers to see who are the best players in each region. And there are a lot of regional leagues in other sports - it really depends on the purpose of the tournament and its organizers. Not all tournaments have the resources to bring in foreign players, either.
I don't see why NA should be singled out in this. Isn't there a Taiwanese SC 2 league that's only Taiwanese players? And a Korean SC 2 league that is open only to those willing to move to Korea? I didn't see any Koreans at the ESL finals, either.

wow, koreans owned this.. 1,2,3 and the other 2 got eliminated by other koreans !!!
did idra win CODE S ? who else won CODE A ?
|
this can only be a good thing, maybe foreigners will start practicing harder etc.
|
So I have been away all weekend and didn't get to see any games, I have been dodging spoilers since I got online. Please someone tell me there are VoD's to the Idra-MMA games, I can't hold out much longer.
