Interview with NaVi'BaByKnight So before he left for WCG I did a short interview with Denmark's representative; BaByKnight as part of a project to talk to some of the lesser known but still quite good names going to this tournament. Unfortunately, we won't be putting out a big newspost about WCG so the project kinda fell through, but I'm sure someone will still be interested. Hopefully he can do well, he streams on TL and is quite a solid player: NaVi'BaByKnight — #6 EU GM (66.24%) at the time of the interview + Show Spoiler + Hey, why don't you introduce yourself for the people who don't know you? NaVi.BaByKnight: Hello everyone, well I´m 19 years old and live in Denmark. I was a top european DotA player for some years before I switched quite recently to the much greater game: StarCraft II. Now doing SC2 full time. Tell us about your qualification, who did you beat? BK: slrkrpaktdmf, CupCake (aka ThomasG from wc3), Rosenkill and Ciara Who was your toughest opponent? BK:Ciara. CupCake is good too, but he has been struggling recently, partially because he doesn´t practice that much these days, but him and his girlfriend let me stay in Copenhagen with them, so it was a shame I had to knock him out, haha. How do you think the general Danish scene is doing right now? BK: I don´t follow the danish scene that much tbh, but I think Ciara is the only player that can take games off me... wow that did not sound arrogant at all, haha. Overall in Europe, how does it compare? BK: In terms of competing with the rest of Europe, I think I can beat pretty much anyone on a good day. But overall? Overall, Denmark as a whole is pretty terrible at sc2, hehe. What excites you most about WCG? What made you want to qualify and travel to Korea? BK: Well it´s the beginning of something bigger for me, I recently (couple of weeks ago) paused my studies so I am now practicing SC2 full time. I think there will be a lot more events for me in the future, and when the time is right I think I will take one of the big ones. About WCG specifically, I´m of course looking forward to seeing the country, the other players and playing in the tournament. Your WCG group is a bit of a weird one... BK: It is, isn´t it? ^^ There's definitely more unknowns than usual, but perhaps that's good for you? What are your thoughts on the group as a whole? BK: Well, the guy from Namibia and the guy from Slovakia (or Slovenia? :S) [Editors Note: It's Slovenia!] shouldn´t be a problem. I don´t know much about the "Hui" guy from Taiwan (I think that's where he's from), he could be good he could be bad, I honestly don´t know. MarineKing is a great player, so I predict him to take the #1 spot, but in a bo1 I think I could beat him. The second place is probably gonna be a fight between me, DarKFoRcE and Beastyqt. Do you have any special builds prepared? BK: Yes. :D Perhaps not "special" but I have something prepared. Based on name recognition, a lot of people will be expecting you to take fourth in this group, what would you say to people watching that might change their predictions? BK: I can understand that people would choose Beasty and DarkForce over me, since they've had a lot more exposure than me, but I know that I am definetly as good if not better than perhaps even both of them. I can´t expect people to root for me if they don´t know me, but I hope that´ll change sometime soon. Expect me to take 2nd! How about some thoughts on the tournament as a whole? Any other players who you think are like yourself? Unknown, but could make a splash? BK: There are a couple. I´ll try to put them in order, starting with who I think can surprise people the most: Titan, Welmu, Snute, Cytoplasm, Orly, Bling and perhaps Aristeo. Titan could win the whole tournament man, that guy is scaaary. Alright, one final question. What are you looking forward to about Korea? BK: The food, the people and competing in the tournament! :D Great, well good luck! BK: <3 thanks!

Yeah, it was the biggest event for over a decade. But it is a profit-oriented organization and no official world championship. For actual SC2 standards the pricepool and the production seem quite low. Unless WCG can surprise somehow, the Blizzard Cup will be the "world championship" for me. Where do you see the hype for WCG exactly? The only thing going for WCG is the prize pool and maybe for the people who are on site. And when an iphone game has the biggest prize pool, it's not even an e-sports event anymore... Btw, are matches supposed to take 30mins each on the main stage? :/

No offense to him, but he seriously shouldn't be making the bold claims that he's making without any showings in major tournaments. As far as I can tell, with that much money at stake and quite a bit of downtime since his last broadcast match, a well prepared MVP is going to be nigh unstoppable

I may be completely off but I feel like there wasn't near the normal amount of hype leading up to this as there usually is for major events. Pretty disorganized overall. So yea, it got lost in the shadows of the other bajillion LANs. On December 08 2011 08:18 Singu wrote: I have to say that the lineup is very disappointing. I find it sad to see that there are almost no big names, no dutch names(sorry folks, a little nationalistic here) and a lot of unknown names. On the other hand: we could see some new talent popping up. I'm interested to see what WCG is going to bring us! Little weird to see a WCG without Grubby . I wonder why he's not representing the dutch in SC2. Problems with sponsorship over at WCG netherlands? Who knows... definitely going to miss him though On December 08 2011 08:32 cHicKeLoR wrote: the maps... seriously... tal darim as a lava map... ? well might as well be the first lava map that is not horrible... but they look nice.. are they in any way different? I didn't see any arrogance nor any delusional thoughts of his own skill level. All I see is a talented player (I mean #6 GM with 66% is good.) who is confident that he can put on a good show. Thinking he isn't as good as the rest would never get him anywhere.
