It saddens me when people post something like this. The matches were amazing yet for some reason everyone and their mother has to come find something wrong with it and try to devalue the win for the other player. Naniwa lost and was not the better player today. --- Amazing plays from both players, hope to see more tournaments end up this way in the future since the TSL has shown us that finals don't always have to be pathetic *cough*GSL*cough* u_u....

Naniwa defintely should have won game 7, but he made several critical mistakes and I symphathize with naniwa (being mostly a protoss player), but then I watched the game again and tried to objectively determine why he lost and why thorzain (despite not being a terran fan) was the better player in that series.
1. Once naniwa saw the huge # of vikings, he should have immediately gotten a twilight council and gone charge followed by blink and stopped making sentries. Once there are that many vikings, forcefielding becomes pointless since you don't want to put your collosus in such a dangerous position so they are unable to do damage with combined forcefield. Better to have gotten charge and blink
2. Expand Waaaaay earlier. He didn't take his 3rd for way too long. One of the benefits of containing your opponent is the chance to take an expo. he didn't do this. Also he should have made 3-4 cannons there to at least make it risky.
3. Not engage early. He had an amazing contain and could have sat there forever while teching to storm. There was no need to attack.
4. Macoring. His macro completely fell apart in game 7. I think he was upset with his previous losses and it affected him. In those kind of situations you feel sick to your stomach.
5. Playing calmly. Every move naniwa did seemed nervewracking while thorzain played calm and collected.
6. Thorzain's transition into ghosts was perfect. Every engagement began with a huge EMP & a stim in. Naniwas unit's did absolutely nothing to thorzain's army in the final engagement, most lopsided even supply battle ever.
7. Thorzain didn't panic when his expo was under attack. He made a few vikings and played defensively while getting ghost tech. A lot of terrans would have tried to break out of that position, but he patiently waited and it worked out. I think if naniwa simply didn't attack, the game would have gone completely differently.
In the end, thorzain's decision making was spot on and perfect until the very last moment and that won him the game despite being behind almost the entire game.

It's sad but people will do that unless both players plays flawlessly, which is next to impossible.

Where can I find the interview with Naniwa before the matches? I need to rewatch it

Just finished the VODs. I was rooting for NaNiwa, so sad to see him lose, but great play by ThorZaIN. This was definitely the best finals and the best tournament I have seen so far in Starcraft 2. Just awesome all around. Could not have wished for a better finals.

Couldn't finish watching the final until now but that was amazing. I was sure ThorZain would take it before the finals started, but when it came down to 3-1 for naniwa, I felt thorzain had no chance. Watching the rest of the games today, I'm amazed at thorzains comeback, extremely strong play, holding the strong aggression from naniwa in the early midgame and turning it around completely.
Congratulations to both players, especially Thorzain obviously, but Naniwa shouldn't be disappointed because he impressed a lot.

I can understand he's devastated but his reaction to the pause and not going to the after party were both pretty childish. Oh well at least he's passionate. I honestly am so miserable to see how shortsighted people are. Let me explain the situation Naniwa is in: -He has being riding a huge wave of victories, losing almost no BoX sets over the last few months -You're flown into a country he said he wasn't really into -You are 3-1, you only need ONE more game to seal the deal but the TSL curse/destiny (as Kennigit coined it a few pages earlier) and you lose it barely in 3 games running straight -After all of this, after losing $8000 (15k-7k from what i recall) you are asked to go out to a bar with the victor (even though they are somewhat friends) and talk to people who will only want to talk about that night and not let you forget it for a moment that you may have fucked up. Now think about what you and other said. Sorry I am not antisocial so these excuses fall short in my opinion. He might have calmed down the bm, but he is still a sore loser. So in a match between equally skilled opponents I am happy that the person with the greater personality took the victory.
Are you fucking retarded? After you lose out on a bo7 prolly the most important bo7 of your entire career so far, you even drop 3 fucking games in a row and you think ure in the mood to go out and drink? I personally love to go out with friends and have a drink, but in that moment I would go home and just sit down alone and be fucking angry, sad and dissapointed at myself.
Now stop being a total twat and realize that there are people who care about competing, therefore we got angry when we lose. We dont go out and get drunk and be reminded for the entire night about your failure. Get real son.

5. Playing calmly. Every move naniwa did seemed nervewracking while thorzain played calm and collected. I agree with this. Personally I think that if you sum up all the games then Naniwa looked like the better player, but his composure seemed to drop (almost fall apart) towards the end while ThorZaIN stayed cool as a cucumber. On a stage like that being able to deal with nerves is just as important as your skill potential so I have no problem with ThorZaIN winning. Keeping your cool is the hallmark of a champion.

I really just wanted to post my to cents about this tournament and some of the people who have commented before me.
First of all, I wanted to say thank you to all Team Liquid and all of the casters for putting on an amazing tournament that gave me countless hours of entertainment and fun.
2nd to all the players who either tried out and to the 32 players that made the tournament, wow at some of the upset thats what we didn't see coming.
The finals was an amazing tournament, would be really crazy to see the gsl champion vs the tsl champion in a bo7, maybe someday we will see it in a tournament somewhere
Now the the controversy that seems to be in this thread, I wanted to touch base on the chill situation first, I wanted to say to people in here that people make mistakes, it his human nature so I can't find fault at Chill, I have seen much worst happen in professional sports that can cost people moving on to there dream of a superbowl etc etc, that is not my excuse but the point is shit happens, move on, Chill did an amazing tournament casting some great games and he really just wanted to get involved with the excitement, there is nothing wrong with that, he really tries to help grow this community and he does a great job, give him a break and just thank him for his services.
2nd about the nani and people saying bm etc, first of all he did say gg in game 7 and he seemed to be very manner people have said he congradulated thorzain on the win, until you guys play in a finals of a tournament, any professional player can communicate how much stress it can cause someone. Also about nani not going out to get drinks, I can recall when my team lost a big playoff gamein football and I was in no means wanting to go out and party afterward, let alone that wasnt even for money. So I will reiterate if you have never been in a position like that, you should honestly think about how you would feel if you put countless hours of practice and this is your life currently and you lose. Look at professional atheletes, look at lebron james last year with the cavs, dude just gave up and left. Terrel owens cried to cameras when he was a dallas cowboy, everyone reacts different to each situation.
I feel like I'm ranting but this was honestly probably the best tournament to date, this was honestly the best tournament outside of Korea to date EVER so thank you, if you add the total viewers over allt he qualifiers etc I'm sure this reached over 2-3 million views let alone the record 70k plus viewers today, not including the korean stream that we dont even know viewers yet.

I do think that Chill's internet issues were very unfortunate for everyone involved. NaNiwa was obviously more emotionally affected about this and I think Chill made the wrong move by not leaving the game at the first instance of lag. I understand that it was the finals and that the lag may be temporary (and may not be), but I put my standards of TL staff so high that I was very disappointed that Chill did not leave the game immediately. Whether it affected the game or not, I'm not sure, but it is certainly best to not have something like that be a possible excuse/reason/detractor from the match and series.

Amazing games. Amazing. I was watching the vods on youtube and a i saw after the 3rd game that it went all the way to seven. Then in that last game I thought it had to be over after all that lost mining time. But amazing emps amazing patience. wp both players but wp ThorZain!

The competition is over, calm down with the rage. There's no reason Naniwa wouldn't enjoy himself regardless of win or loss Mr. competitive player.

It's not the players to make that call, but the referees, he obviously was waiting for the referee's ruling.

First grand finals of a major tournament since SC2s release that was actually exciting and good?

Also thorzain had amuch harder way to the finals. Taking out 2 gsl cahmpions. Etc. So he deserved it
