[NASL] Players (final) - Page 100
Forum Index > StarCraft 2 Tournaments |
Players such as Jinro, HuK, and Adelscott did not apply for this tour, so don't ask why they aren't on this list. DIMAGA, Kas, and LaLush turned applications in late so they will not appear either. Please take some time to learn who exactly applied. Please inform yourself about who applied and who didn't.

Which is why I said I'm still pretty excited. But some of the names are debatable. Mainly some of the NA names. It was to be expected, I suppose, but it's still a little bit disappointing to think of the players who won't be in this.

I can't wait til we reach weeks 7,8,9 as that is when it will be tight for 1st and 2nd place to advance to top 16 and we will also have the fight for 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th in each group to advance to the tournament for the last 6 spots. Should be an awesome league with awesome players, playing awesome games.

I really hate to sound like a douche but im pretty sure that it'd meet up to the fans expectations of NASL and also higher the entertainment value by miles, again I do understand that NASL only is in beta phase more or less but the hype about it would definitely be way higher with names likes MC, boxer, nada etc etc. Just my 2 cents, please no hate! :DSome of the names are very disappointing. I'm still pretty excited, but less than before. Time will tell, I guess.

I also don't like the fact that they've hardly invited ANY Koreans. If they don't accept oGsMC's application and put him in group 6 my brain will explode! Groups are likely set up to avoid team kills. I'd wait the next two days before saying there aren't any korean invites. Pretty sure Boxer is a shoe-in from what Xeris has said.

We're pretty confident that we've never deviated from that stance, nor has anyone said anything contrary to that. PainUser, 3rd at MLG Dallas, 1st at Green Forest. He has no results. Axslav has been very, very good lately. Grubby & Artosis... Think about what we've stated our criteria will be: results and, popularity. What is there to scratch your head over? NASL.tv was never our website. Our website is going to be launched next week, you'll be able to see it shortly. We've listened to the community quite a bit. However, that doesn't mean we are going to change every little thing just because someone doesn't like it. Ultimately, we are very confident in what we're doing. We believe it's going to be great, and we believe that a LOT of people will be incredibly satisfied with what our end product will be. If anyone has concerns, that's fine... you know how to contact me, and I always respond to the forums. Allow me to keep my concerns, you were all also pretty confident the showmatch was awesome. Really, it wasn't. Even though I don't agree with everything the other poster said in his post, I think we agree on the real subject: The way things have been shaping up, ever since the millions of announcements of announcements, has just been flawed all along, popularity contest, player selection, website production values, showmatch quality, even the hype video are all of questionable value and quality. Hopefully the tournament itself will boast high levels of fun and production, and quality games, it's all we want. Considering the whole "NASL background" up to now, I'm concerned as to how it's gonna turn out. At least this whole time we've had TSL3, which has an incredibly simple layout and features, yet it's production values are a whole notch above what we've seen from NASL. The way they hyped the tournament is hopefully teaching NASL some lessons. I don't know, they just seem to know what this community wants, and how to execute it correctly.

What if NASL got in contact with GOM and it was GOM who told them the schedules would clash? Obviously there's a reason the only Koreans who are being invited are those not playing in the GSL. It's a big risk for NASL if half the players who make it through to the finals may not even show up, can't blame them for taking the safe route.

This is the North American Starleague I don't know why people would be disappointed if many koreans don't get invited.

It was clear to many commenters, including myself, that any invitational system for a tournament like this is going to result in a huge amount of criticism and charges of favoritism regardless of who is picked. Add to that some questionable picks and the fact that several people in the organization have team affiliations and there's no way you could possibly avoid it. And yet, they actually seem surprised by the level of criticism. They seem to be constantly using legalistic interpretations of things they said to pretend like nothing is misleading. Xeris, you said something in some other thread to the effect of the criteria for being chosen being "1. results 2. results 3. results, and 4. popularity" (not exact quote). That makes it sound like popularity is a minor, tie-breaking concern. You also advertise having the best players in the world. To then pick Grubby, who has zero results, and respond with "we never said we wouldn't use popularity" is misleading to say the least. It's not technically a contradiction, but it's not what a reasonable person hearing what you said would have expected. (This sort of legalistic loophole-finding has been evident in any number of issues regarding NASL, not just this.) I was someone who originally probably would have paid for the HD/VOD thing, but that's definitely not happening now. I'll probably watch the free stream from time to time still, and I hope it succeeds, but my respect for the league has decreased substantially. It's great that the system for qualifying for future seasons is completely free of invites - given two or three seasons, that'll probably result in the tournament's legitimacy increasing substantially, and maybe then I'll become a more devoted fan. I think the deepest fault in the mindset of NASL is not understanding what makes sports exciting. When the Red Sox played the Yankees in the World Series, that was a big enough deal that even I, who care nothing at all about baseball, watched two or three games. When the Red Sox and the Yankees play an exhibition match, people are mildly entertained, but no one cares very much. The reason is that the World Series title itself has a lot of respect associated with it, so people find a fight over it very dramatic. It's not good enough to just put good/interesting players/teams in games against each other and cast them well. If that's all you're doing, it will never be more popular than Husky's youtube account. It's the legitimacy of the tournament that makes people care. To a certain extent you can substitute a big prize pool for legitimacy, but that only goes so far, and what I've seen so far doesn't convince me that the people behind NASL understand the importance of this legitimacy or how to get it.
