i think having a bunch of Koreans would be really nice, they only have gsl stuff over there and if your not in code s you don't make hardly anything while in the international scene there a online tournaments like every day and a couple big lans a month. Having a good number of Koreans in the league will only make us better players, its not like there gonna be invading every single foreign tournament.

hell even foreigners even get special invites and special treatment in the GSL

As a side note, remember GCPL, VT won 4 games and lost 18(with direct invite) and NRG + vvv didn't even qualify. I'd like to see divisions where everyone is a top player and can take games of eachother. Not where there's 3 "up and coming" players in the bottom of each division.

My 2 cents, sorry if I was a bit harsh towards the non-top players, they are all leagues and leagues beyond my skill level.

I would not call it harsh, just dumb or maybe uninformed, especially when it comes to vvv and clan leagues.

Ah you are right, i forgot the SCL 1 win etc. I don't really follow the US-only clan leagues.

Perfectly stated.

As others have stated nasl set out to get the best players, therefore nasl should get the best players regardless of nationality.

After seeing all the application VODs (Especially the artosis/ST videos) I am getting so pumped for the nasl.

Please nasl, pick the BEST players. ; D

I don't know about you, but watching some code A guys destroy everyone at IEM wasn't fun to spectate. I want to see players that have an even footing battle it out. In my opinion watching Koreans (12hrs+ a day practicing - its their entire life) competing against foreigners not living in Korea (4-6hrs+ a day practicing - its not their entire life) just isn't compelling competition. Like I've said before on this topic - when our culture supports starcraft players the way Korea's culture does - I'll be all for having a true global starcraft tournament. Unfortunately, our cultures are no where near the same in that regard.

I'm new to the community so maybe I don't understand the rabid fanaticism for Korean players. Why do people in NA/Europe respect/root for Korean players almost as much, if not more, than their own countrymen? I suppose people just want to the see the best of the best. I'm still of the opinion that Korean players are better at SC2 because they practice 10x harder than foreigners.
Their culture allows such dedication, ours does not.

But thats what all the foreigners players have been championing. Day9, IdrA, everyone. They want an e-sports culture like Korea. They want to have teamhouses so they can play 10 hours a day and make it their career. They want to live off Starcraft like sportsmen live of sports or musician live off music. They feel that there is a chance to make it happen with Starcraft 2 with the way it is booming. The way to make it is to assimilate and integrate with them. To incorporate the good points of their culture into ours and weed out the bad ones. That is why almost every pros play Korean ladder so they don't lag behind in terms of skills ( from Koreans and from each other).

It is not like everyone here idolize Koreans to the high heavens. Pretty sure we love foreigners as you can see in GSL threads. It is just over-protectionism towards foreigners will make the foreign scene lag behind and unable to compete. If the foreign scene are 2nd best, then it is much more unlikely that the the foreign scene can be attractive as a career.

It is not as if people are saying 50 percent should be Koreans. They are talking about 10 or 20 percent.
And the Koreans have obviously put effort by applying and to denounce their applications are just very very arbitrary. I see many applications from foreigners who are even more lacklustre (although there are quite a few brilliant ones of course). Pretty sure people who are in GSL are also aiming for money and fame and sense of achievements. Do you think the first thing in the mind of our foreigners as they go into the gsl are " oh i want to develop the scene and be part of korean scene?"

Lost a ton of respect for NrG and Pokebunny because of their comments in this thread. I'd like you to make a 1:00 long video in Korean to apply for the GSL. Speaking an Asian dialect like Korean, Japanese or Chinese then speaking English is very, very difficult. Completely classless comments.

This is an important statement. I've heard iNcontroL speak many times about advancing Western e-sports and forming team houses in NA. I truly believe this can only be done in an atmosphere of top international competition.

It's pretty simple really. Either you make the announcement that it will not feature any koreans or you make the announcement that it's an international tournament and anyone can compete.

If koreans can compete; then that will basically force the foreign teams to start taking esports much more seriously. That's good and bad. It's good because it may lead to the development of a very strong sc2 esports scene outside korea (teamliquid traning house in europe perhaps? EG training house in america?). It's bad because I have a feeling a lot of people who want to play sc2 but also want to study/work etc. will simply not be able to compete even if they are really, really talented and fan favorites.

Any half-assed inbetween solution will be weird. Sure, you can put a cap on the number of korean players but... it'll just be pretty strange. People may argue that the korean scene should "retaliate" then and stop encouraging foreigners.

In my opinion it would be something like 2 Americans, 4 Europeans, 44 Koreans if we just looked at the the best.

Agree in all points.
I think many of the Koreans (for example the ogs guys) would love to speak proper english. It seems Koreans are just not taught proper in school (which is really bad I think).
Thumbs up for trying hard in the application vids. I think some of them may have been even read phonetic transcription ^^.
