what a round from Ave :o

I remember back in the days. Used to watch some CS, but wow the level at which the players are at now is insane.

The CS community has promoted the heck out of this event while the SC community has largely ignored it. Just compare TL's coverage of a MLG event, the coverage of this tournament is really disappointing.

It feels really weird.

The quality of players for sc2 is pretty much on par with an MLG event (less numbers, but in terms of top-tier pros it is comparable), and the offline setup is clearly costly and well produced - and yet there has been hardly any hype or secondary and tertiary media (fans at the event, their photos interviews and such) .

I didnt even know this IEM was going on until it was mentioned at the homestory cup....thats completely unacceptable for a tournament of this magnitude I feel >.<

I dont get what you are talking about. Secondary and teriary media? You expect to be informed by TV comercial or what? I dont get it.
We were informed about this happening just the same way as about the other tourneys, which was via tl and other sc web sites. Dont see how there was any difference.

No, secondary and tertiary as in user generated, not primary media produced by the organizers.

Look at MLG Dallas and compare the 3-4 sets of interview by various non-official organizations, 2-3 photostreams by users, tons of forum posts, all ways of fans reporting back their thoughts and experiences after each day.

Here there seems no connection between community and event. I assume there is with goodgame.ru and the russian scene.

Tbh I think it's 90% the location of the event....I mean, just think back to IEM cologne, this was one hell of an event, imo even more exciting than all of the MLGs, but maybe it just felt that way because it was the first major tournament.
Regardless, the coverage was extraordinary, simply because so many Germans came and postet stuff.

Not so many ukrainians and russians speak english good enough to be active on international community sites, but there is some pretty decent coverage on russian speaking ones. You may want to check this photo gallery by the way http://www.goodgame.ru/event_gal.php?ocd=view&photo_id=72122

can't believe how many people wrote sjow off before the event, if he wins this expect to see everyone say they wish he was in KR.

gogogo fnatic!

Really exciting series, even though I'm normally not a CS fan this is awesome. CS really is a viewers sport.

That is quite impressive. Really smacks down the myth that you have to have an APM of at least 200-300 to be a high level player.

Sorry, I by no means whatsoever wanted to insult the Russian community but emphazise what you've said - there isn't much coverage here at TL because not many community-members of TL have the possibility to go to the Ukraine.
Germans have always been very present here at TL, this is why there was so much more coverage here at TL during IEM cologne. As you said, the russians have "their own" coverage, which is why this event seems to be "under-promoted" here.

Average apm is pretty pointless. If you can raise your apm to 200 or something like that when it really matters (big battle etc), then what you do in other situations are not really as important.
