Big props to tQ for organizing regular tournaments at e-spot. I was definitely impressed by how the first event went and how friendly everybody was. If you live in Greater Vancouver area, you guys should definitely check it out!

Depending on the kind of time constraint to take into account, losers bracket may or may not be best out of 3, we'll have to see. We're also trying to create some sort of tournament/system that will allow average skilled players to compete against one another for a prize that is separate from say the winners bracket. We'll keep you guys and gals updated on the details. For now, study hard, finish up your exams/papers and train up for the next tournament that will be going down in the year 2011!

Yeah I'll be a regular if this is going to be a common occurence. Hopefully I'll have a stronger showing this time around, anxiety really got the best of me at the last event unfortunately.
What are the rules regarding alcohol?
Cya there

Tag for later. Not sure if I can make it, so I won't take up a spot yet. Thanks for organizing a tournament though, it's always nice to see more e-sports stuff around.

Yes, we will be hosting this on the regular and regarding booz, well due to several reasons, we are obliged to say that no alcohol will be allowed on the premises.
Also, we will be opening up this second tQ LIVE to online players who wish to join our prize tournament and play from the comfort of their homes. The entry fee will be $20 and the payment can be made through paypal or by check. We will provide a valid paypal account shortly. So once again, this event may include players from all around North America who wish to compete in this tournament alongside players who will be attending the actual LAN.

Does this mean I can just pay $20 via paypal and play at home so I can play at my usual settings instead of going to the actual lan? (That sorta defeats the purpose of lan tournaments... :D)

Well, so far not many people have signed up to partake in the tourney from their home(s). We wanted to somehow increase the number of participants in the tournament by adding this option but if most people generally dislike the format of it then we can make it LAN only and save the online tournament for another time. I just think that it is very difficult to get 32+ players to show up to a LAN because circumstances arise and people may have things to do on that particular day but again, the format is quite flexible and we are prioritizing the LAN over the online option because afterall eSPOT is our home and we want everyone to experience a gaming environment that is different from just playing at home alone.

I am coming from Victoria. I love the idea of LANs and am definitely willing to get the day off work (already done) and take the boat over to Richmond for some SC2! I want to see more of these for the growth of esports in Canada!
|
I work down the Street, so I could just ask for an hour off of work to go play in a Tournament if I really needed to, since I work 11-9 that day anyway.. xD
But i'm booking it off. it'll be cool. (:
|
You can take my name off the list. Not really up for this, if people can "play at home" possibly I dont like that. If I can travel from Maple Ridge other people can travel if they want to join but it isn't my decision. Good luck everyone. Also I changed my mind I don't really want to play in this Tournament anyways.
|
@matty12h
I'm sorry to hear that you'll be withdrawing from the tournament. I'll admit that the online aspect is a bit overambitious on our part, but I personally don't see a major issue with it. We simply wanted to find a way to fill all the slots in the tournament so that the LAN players would be able to take advantage of the alloted time they have been given for the LAN computers. But your feedback is important and it will be taken into consideration for our next LAN tournament.
Regardless, if you happen to change your mind, there is in person registration. If you have a change of heart, please drop by and take a look. You'll see that the LAN experience is full and lively, even if there may be a few "at home" players, nothing would've changed about the LAN environment. Thank you for interest, matty12h.
|
I hope there will be a decent amount of people there. I'm willing to take the day and travel just to play and hang out with some cool players!

Why did you increase the entry fee? I know a couple people that would play if it was a bit cheaper.
|
@TheHumanSensation
You may come to watch and hang out. There are no restrictions on that, we just don't have any kind of audience seating in order to accommodate spectators. But we, of course, welcome everyone to come to watch.
@thesauceishot
The entry fee increased for several reasons. Our contract with the venue was adjusted to further their favor, so part of the increased fee goes towards that adjustment. We also wanted to increase the prize pool and a larger prize pool would allow us to sweeten the prize. We had also taken a informal survey during the first tournament and it was found that many players felt the original entry fee was a bit low and that for a great venue like eSpot, a minor increase in fee would be acceptable. Thus, considering both the responses of the players, our own personal intention of promoting the e-sports community in the Lower Mainland, the volunteered effort of organizing the tournament, and the lack of profit made, we are justified in increasing the entry fee.
Regardless, as mentioned in my previous response, you should still bring your friends down to hang out and see the event as it unfolds. After all, we just want to provide an environment for the community to grow.
|
|
Do I have to register ahead of time? I'm like 90% sure I'm going to come.
|
I live near there! and am definately going to show up at the door - if there is a slot remaining for me, I'm definately in!
See you there.
|
|
@thesauceishot
You don't have to register ahead of time, of course you may register at the door... But it will be first come, first serve. by registering, you will be guaranteed a slot, as opposed to having to race for the in person slot. Also, even if you register and an emergency or some unforeseen circumstance arises, preventing you from attending, you will simply be written off as a no-show. There is no other real punishment, unless you end up consistently no-showing...
|
20$.. @_@ I just realized, I get paid on the 7th(my cheque won't clear till like, a week later), and I spent all my money on Christmas Gifts. So i'm currently unsure if I can come cause of the entry fee ?_?
|
@Raeleigh
Just come anyway, you don't have to play in the tournament. Like mentioned above, spectators are allowed to come. If you find that you wish to play some SC2 but not enter the tournament, depending on the tournament turn out, there may be options for us to accommodate you with a computer to only play games for $6 for the duration of the tournament. Of course, if there's a full turn out, you'll be forced to only view from the sidelines. Still, it is about the environment, after all. Just come and have some fun.

Well, I wouldn't bother coming if I'm not playing, to be honest. I'd prefer to get paid for going to work than not getting paid to go possibly play some games. I guess i'll see if I can get 20$. Bleh.
|
@Raeleigh
... Well, there's no pressure for you to take time off of work in order to attend. >_< Obviously, your presence would further add to the growing esport spirit we are trying to promote, but real life responsibilities are much more pressing. Please do not fret over this particular tournament. Considering the previous turn out of the first tournament and the current prospects for the upcoming one, I'm confident of a tQ Live #3 occurring in February. So, mind not the pressure for this one, but rather prepare for the next one, if that would give you piece of mind.

Try to be there at 11:00am so that we can register and place you at an available computer. If you have some equipment that you would like to set up it's best that you come early so that you have time to set everything up and get ready.
The tournament should commence at around 12 pm so hopefully everyone will be checked in by then. If you're running late or you registered and can't make it, let us know by calling us at (604) 232-9963. It is not too late to register and we've got more room so come on down.
Looking forward to seeing you all this Saturday at eSPOT!

Im going to have to not show up tommorrow =(
Certain games have been ruining all of my practice time

Everyone please remember to SHOW UP BY 12:00 PM because the TOURNAMENT WILL START AT 1:00 PM EXACTLY. We will not accept nor register anyone into the tournament after this time so please make sure that you're there on time. Also please remember to bring in $20 cash if you're participating in the tournament.
With respect to buying food there, although there are small snacks that you may purchase at the eSPOT snacks bar, we may order pizza so you may want to bring in a couple extra bucks for that. Otherwise, there are many food joints in and around eSPOT so that's always an option as well.
Hope everyone is taking the time to practice up a bit today before the tournament tomorrow so that you're playing at your best : )
Last but no least get a good nights rest, tomorrow is going to be awesome but long.

Here is the BIGGEST problem with having people able to play at home. Ghosting, the ability to watch your match if it streamed. Either do it all lan, or all online man. Mixing the two is NOT a good idea. And it is also why I am asking you to take me off the list. Sorry

If everyone is there at 12, we will start then but we will wait until 1 pm latest for everyone and then start immediately.
If you are eliminated you can still stay until 7pm. Remember that there is a losers bracket and that you still have a chance to get back into the winners bracket from there.

We have already stated that this tQ LIVE is strictly a LAN tournament only and that no online option is available. We will try out an online tournament sometime in the near future in our tQ Opens.

Hello TL!
The tQ live tourney sponsored by e-spot billiards and arcade is about to get underway! We'll be starting in about 15 minutes with Zander and I casting the games. Our last live tournament saw Stalife take a strong win against Ganon, and from the list of players signed up here, it's plain to see that the matches today will be so high level. Tune into http://www.teamliquid.net/video/streams/zanderfever to watch the games!
|
|
Hahaha, had a great time - ill be at the next one! :D
thanks for organising it!
|
If anyone's still at the tourney and sees this, can you grab the razer mousepad from computer 22 and give it to one of the organizers? i can pick it up wherever, completely forgot about it
|
For Prima: not sure if I elaborated clearly when we talked at the LAN, but since a lot of tournaments are starting to use iCCup maps now anyway, and even the GSL is gearing-up to use custom maps, the next LAN would be a safe time to implement a few customs. Just take the obviously questionable maps out, and leave some of the more balanced ones, and you guys should be good as long as we're all given enough notice on what the map pool is (which you guys don't seem to have a problem with anyway.)

Thanks to everyone that registered and showed up for the tournament. Despite the several no shows we had an exceptionally smooth and well organized event. There were very few technical problems if any at all and the games were all played on time and in orderly fashion.
Congrats to the winners Saikou, SCabemone, and Raigeki.
We will post up pics from the LAN shortly so stay tuned for that.
Best,

Good times, that was fun. Never been to a LAN so I didn't know what to expect, but I enjoyed it. 4th place T_T.

Was great fun (even though I was by far the lowest ranking player there), and will definately be participating in the next one.

True that bro, GG btw. I was only slightly higher ranked than you, let's both practice for the next one so we don't get tooled so bad against those diamond ranks
Had a ton of fun, great job by the organizers. Look forward to maybe a team format sometime in the future, more forgiving for weaker 1v1 ers like myself!!

Ghosting, the ability to watch your match if it streamed. Either do it all lan, or all online man. Mixing the two is NOT a good idea. And it is also why I am asking you to take me off the list. Sorry We have already stated that this tQ LIVE is strictly a LAN tournament only and that no online option is available. We will try out an online tournament sometime in the near future in our tQ Opens. Shoot, I wish I looked back here. Sorry I must have missed a post saying you cancelled the online idea. Damn, well grats to the winner. I bet it was fun!

We had 24 participants show up to the 2nd tQ LIVE whereas we had 20 for the last one. However, the entry fee for the 2nd LIVE tournament was $20 so the prize pool increased a bit. There were several no shows unfortunately but we made the most out of it.
A few players that registered for the 1st & 2nd tQ LIVE tournament did not show up so we will be taking notice of that. If you sign up for a tournament or event and can't make it, the least you can do is let the organizers know that you can't make it
And yes we did order pizza this time.
