was probably one of the first to do it well in a SC2 match
spreading units is a logical tactical action to take, but tons of players have 1 control group syndrome

Newsh wil be facepalming so hard when he sees the replay of that match.

Yeah seriously this is kind of insane in a tournament setting. These banelings weren't even burrowed or dropped. 1500 mineral worth of marines + build time... gruesome

Because in a RTS game ends-means reasoning is bad? If you think making a spire and then not using it is a good thing I honestly don't know what to say to you. Sounds more like you're the one who is in Gold League.
Except that HD doesn't know the game will end when the thors move in.
Imagine this scenario: HD holds off the push without making a spire, (so he uses Zerglings + banes): Opponent then gets some hellions out, and starts to harass, focusing away from thors because he doesn't have to worry about mutas.
BUT, by having a spire, you keep the threat of mutas on the terran, and you allow some harass play if the circumstances allow. All of this without having to start the spire again (absurdly long build time). 200/200 would not have held the push, but it gives HD the option for later in the game if thor production flags.

Then why not cancel? Sunk cost? Just because a building isn't useful now doesn't mean it can't be useful later. The utility of getting those minerals/gas back < having the future flexibility. Making a spire when you see your opponent going mass thors is silly. He could have thrown down the infestation pit at that point and utilizied his neural parasite tactic much sooner. You get 75% of the cost back which is 150/150. Basically one infestor; three roaches; etc. Not worth it, and once again, the utility of having that flexibility far outweighs having that money, especially when on three bases. 1 infestor and 3 roaches would have helped him more in that match than the spire would have. I understand what you mean by flexibility, but the outcome of the match voices my opinion. Ends-means reasoning? Well, I never. Get out of here with that garbage. Tell me. How did the Spire help him out in the match. You talked about flexibility, but the fact of the matter is that the spire was never utilized and was basically minerals wasted. He would have performed much better if he had canceled and replaced the spire with the infestation pit. stop. using. ends-means. reasoning. please, you're hurting my brain. Just because something didn't work doesn't mean it was wrong. Go back to gold league. Because in a RTS game ends-means reasoning is bad? If you think making a spire and then not using it is a good thing I honestly don't know what to say to you. Sounds more like you're the one who is in Gold League. It is bad. He had roach warren. He didn't use it. HE LOST. HOLY SHIT ROACHES SUCK AGAINST THORS. Whoah hold on there. I never said Mutalisks or Roaches were bad. All i'm saying is that he made a structure he never used which was a blunder.

Makes me feel better about my shite laptop that can't handle medium.
Also, I think TLO said with low graphics but ultra textures you can see cloaked units. Heh.

I've not really seen it done often enough in a non-KR game, its something that players need to practice due to the prevalence of muta-heavy builds which forces marine-heavy play which forces banelings.
