I took it upon myself to create a thread for this up coming tournament/lan party at Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant Michigan Starting at 6pm on November 19th and going all the way until 6am the following Sunday. There isn't a concrete time table yet but you can get more information and sign up at www.bigshotgaming.com
This marks the 2nd LAN that ICCUP.tv will be attending and casting in the Michigan area!!!!!!!!!!! <3 Diamond and Raelcun
There are some pretty sick headphones for the winners
Also up for grabs the are going to have several DAS keyboards I believe from other games/tournaments and their raffle
I'm having trouble registering on the site...every time I fill out the form and hit enter the page just refreshes itself and everything is blank. I tried logging in to but obviously it didn't work because my account wasn't created.
I'll be there, maybe well see a rematch from the Sparty LAN since it looks like Lizuma is going. It's awesome that diamond and raelcun will be at this one too <3.
I'll compete in brawl and reach too as long as I'm allowed. Does $15 cover all tournament entries?
Yeah I've having issues with the registration too.
How does the tournaments for Brawl / Reach work? Do we just bring our own controller? Is there prizes? Does the $15 cover the entry fee for every tournament and is it possible to do multiple tournaments?
Just wondering why you wouldn't just make it single elimination but have each series be best of 3 with the finals best of 5?
Bo1 with Double elimination really isn't much faster than Bo3 Single Elimination considering all the extra bracket work and making sure certain matches get played before you can do the losers bracket etc etc.

(this of course for the sc2 tourny)
Because that is slower. Much more games would be played.
We need to put together CMU,MSU,WMU and UoM starcraft 2 (1v1) teams and have some grudge matches.
What was that clan war format.. wasn't it like 4 1v1 matches and one 2v2 match?
be better if the tournament was bo3, i'm pretty concerned about the amount of cheese there will be in 1v1. Especially if Steppes is in the rotation.
iSin it'd be nice to know a couple things.. -how the map pool will be handled. Would be nice to be able to vote down maps. The map pool's better than it used to be, but i'd still hate to roll certain maps in certain matchups. -time the SC2 tournament starts approx.

Not really, without having a losers bracket you can play the tourny straight thru rather then waiting for winners bracket to lose, then waiting for certain loser's brackets to play before you can keep playing.
/shrug
Plus it's a 2-3 day event...I'm sure there is plenty of time.

Single elim is inferior without seeded players because you could have the second best player in the tournament eliminated in the first round.
Double elim gives people a second opponent if they get an unlucky first opponent.
I'm Tom, the lead admin for BSG, and I completely forgot about posting the thread here.
If you're having registration issues, feel free to email me directly - tom@bigshotgaming.com and I will get you sorted out.
Additionally, some SC2 specific stuff just so everyone's aware -
1. The SC2 winner will get both the Psyko headset as well as a Das Keyboard (every tournament except GoldenEye 007 is gonna get a Das Keyboard for first place) 2. We are not releasing a maplist before the LAN. Sorry! 3. We will be seeding players according to their battle.net rankings. 4. Starcraft II will be taking place Friday night. 5. The format is 1v1 double-elim - no best out of 3 for finals (unless you guys threaten to lynch me, SLP took a really long time and we've got a TON of other tournaments to run)
If anyone's got any more specific questions, just post them here in the thread and I'll be checking this regularly. Can't believe I forgot about the TL forums :/

Care to give us a reason? I mean thats pretty unreasonable.
Mainly because we don't want people to have any sort of advantage on the maps we choose, and we don't want to hear people being upset before the LAN with relation to the chosen maps - it's about impossible to make everyone happy
We are definitely open to hearing what you guys DON'T want to play, if you have suggestions and can come to a consensus on it - I know there's a few maps that are very conducive to cheese strats, and we'd like to avoid people being cheesed out of the tournament at all costs.

Seriously this is a horrible idea. Every tournament releases their map pools before...
That and the no bo3 for the finals. I'm all for this tournament but those two rules got to go asap.
I got that backwards - I'm opposed to BO3 for semifinals, not finals, purely in the interest of time. I really want to see BO3 for the finals, just because that should be the best match of the entire tournament.
Diamond, if you want to talk more about maplists, I'd love to hear your input - none of us on the BSG crew are amazing at SC2, and there's only one of us that's really any good.

Seeding based on ladder rankings seems a bit silly too, considering how unreliable ranking can be at times.
And how are you seeding it? Top ranked plays the lowest ranked first? With that setup you're probably just discouraging a lot of people from playing. #1 seeded against #2 would be even worse.
Seeding probably isn't necessarily a negative thing. It seems like a neutral feature that doesn't have a clear purpose since you're also doing double elim. It seems like a lot of extra work managing seed information for no gain.
Heh. Definitely didn't expect this to blow up like it is - we will fix this. Our LANs are for the players, and the players choose the directions we take.
Honestly I would love iCCup maps but at this point there is really not time to implement them and get everyone practiced up on them. That's just my 2 cents.
Best out of three will definitely be there for the finals - semifinals will have to be a decision made the day of the LAN depending entirely on attendance for this tournament.
I'm not sure on the seeding - you're right in that there are issues with seeding by ranking, but I think a degree of randomosity within each tier would be fine. It's hard to say - I'll try to come up with an answer on this in the next few days.
The maplist will be as follows, rotated by round:
Shakuras Plateau Jungle Basin Blistering Sands Scrap Station Steppes of War Xel'Naga Caverns Delta Quadrant Lost Temple Metalopolis
It'll be going top-down, so it's entirely possible that Lost Temple and Metalopolis will never be played. If you're going to practice, practice the maps from the top-down.

Fair enough

Honestly seeding is just unnecessary. Ladder ranking could mean less and it just adds more work for you guys. Battle.net 2.0 will punish you hard for this decision in multiple ways.
Then move at least Metal up. It's the best map of Blizz's. Move Blistering Sands to the end more then likely. That map blows.
If you're going to seed the closest thing you can do to making it fair is to make it consistent. Go by sc2 ranks sorted by win percentage. It's the closest way to getting an actual seed ranking. It will take some time to set it up like this but if you're not going to go to the effort of making the seeding accurate then it's just better to do a random draw. There really isn't room for anything in between. If you watch MLG they try to do both and every time they wind up with two HUGE names fighting eachother in the first round because they're in the unseeded random pool.
Excellent to see this again, pumped to replay all the SLP players ^^ @BSG- Any news on when something like this will come to WMU? =).. we should def set up some kind of university 1v1 team league.

We wouldn't be hosting an event at Western; Big Shot Gaming is actually only the "cover name" for our RSO, the Student Electronic Gaming Association.

Thinking of attending the brawl event too, out of practice quit the game a few months after release, anyone wanna meet up next weekend and help me catch up? Can help your game in sc2 in return if you are looking to get better, I'm like a 2.2k rating terran comfortable playing all races at 2k+
Info on when exactly the brawl tourney is? Also it is BYOcomputer correct?

I'd be down if you want to come to my place. I want to practice some Brawl before the tournament too as I haven't really played it much since release, but I am good.
As for SC2 we could run games on that too but I don't know if you'd want to bring your comp to my house. Either way, I'm down for Brawl.
@tomthebomb Is there going to be prizes for anything outside of 1st in the tournaments that have prizes?
Also I havent been in the brawl loop for a while, but tom you seem pretty cool/flexible(/uninformed) about the ruleset for the SC2 league, if you wanna post or link the brawl ruleset I'm sure me and a couple other people on the forums could help you out incase its got some issues, the brawl community is pretty picky

Right now my best guess on the Brawl tournament is 5PM on Saturday, and yes, it is BYOC. We'll be posting an official schedule this weekend - no admins have complained about my modified schedule, so that should be set in stone.
On November 06 2010 03:43 eNtitY~ wrote: @tomthebomb Is there going to be prizes for anything outside of 1st in the tournaments that have prizes?
Most likely there will be 2nd place prizes for both TF2 and SCII, but we're not 100% on that yet. Don't quote me on it.

Meh, don't care so much about picky Brawl players, especially since it's not the main focus of the LAN. TF2 and SCII are my real concerns; everything else is secondary. I can tell you that there are going to be some items, and it's going to be a FFA tournament.
On November 06 2010 04:25 eNtitY~ wrote: Also Tom, Does the $15 cover entry to all tournaments desired?
Covers entry to all tournaments desired, three meals on Saturday, and a kickass LAN party overall.

When you see the prize, I think you'll change your mind.

Did you email me? I can't help you unless you email me.

tom do we have to prepay in order to reserve a spot, i just checked pay at the door but ill pay online if it means im not gonna be ensured a spot
Paying at the door means you aren't guaranteed a spot. If the LAN fills up before you pay ATD, you're out of luck.
@tomthebomb Users aren't aware that there's an activation email. There's no message shown on the screen after you register and not everyone checks their email. Additionally, there are no sorts of error messages whatsoever. Hehe, this might be a good idea in the future.
I'm looking forward to attend this tournament though and am very grateful you guys are hosting it
Of particular note to you guys is the SC2 start time - we're going to be starting right at 8PM Friday evening, so we need you there by 7:30 at the latest for SC2 tournament registration. If you can't be there by 7:30, email us at bigshot@bigshotgaming.com (don't use my email address; I'm not the one creating the brackets) and let us know that you're playing and an approximate time of when you're going to arrive - we'd like this tournament to run pretty quickly.

We don't have to bring Xbox's to the tournament do we? Is it an option to bring you own still for the FFA?
