i just read this ... ... ... ... are they serious? 2 people for a 512 player tournament? No - it wasnt just 2. We had 2 people as the primary hosts/casters. However we had other people assisting in other areas. I am very sorry for everything during this tournament guys. I spent about 4 hours alone on the brackets. I am so sorry again guys. We are never going to use binary again and I am pretty sure we will be doing a time change as well - REGARDLESS of people asking for it to be this late. I hope you all truly understand. Again, my apologies.
For this tournament I'd say have everyone pause now at round 2. You can redo brackets for tomorrow and automate it. I know I'm not staying up to stare at brackets for the next 3 hours. Just get your stuff together and start over tomorrow fresh.
Edit:
Also I beat Rigid Round 2, he should be matched as my opponent as his Round 1 was a noshow. Email was sent with replay already. Put me in for round 3.

Good Luck Tesla/Cat
Should call it a day for now and fix the brackets im sure tomorrow will run smoother if the brackets are all set.
Best of luck and really shitty that so many people were a no show... adds to the delays

Seriously just pause all matches and update to the round 3 matchups(which means round 2 is played), and go from there whenever you guys can fix it up.
Appreciate the effort so far though.

Not telling you what to do but my advice would be to have the match's that don't finish carry over to tommorrow. T_T
i'm in Round 4 atm ! fighting

You guys bit off a lot more than you can chew with this. Plenty of other tournaments of this size have run a lot smoother. You guys should probably only have one method of communication with your viewers. While's it great to have people talk to you on Bnet, JustinTV Chat, and Email, it means you usually neglect 1 or 2 of the methods and lose a lot of the reports. Having to wait 4 hours to make it to round 3 is rather ridiculous. You guys need to aim a bit smaller next time probably at 32 or 64. Bigger tournaments may please more people, but if you can't handle it, you get far more unhappy viewers than happy viewers. As of now, you've spent more time looking at a bracket screen than casting games. As you noticed, the more players you get, the more that don't show. The check in process is redundant at this level (unless automated) and should only be used in tournaments that are 32 players are less. At this amount of players all you need to do is make a bracket and tell players to play and report to a single place. One player should receive the reports and update the bracket. You don't need to have 4 or 5 people updating the bracket as it just creates confusion on who has reported who. Have different people focus on specific things. BinaryBeast also runs very smoothly with only one person updating. Challonge is also a simple bracket organizer as well. It also may help to take off a lot of the clutter in the initial post, so people know exactly what to do. Less is more when making tournament threads. A bunch of different text in difference sizes and colors just confuses the participants. Hope your tournaments run smoother in the future and I hope you take some of my thoughts into consideration.
Also Lyra is a jerk for knocking me out <3.

No offense to the players that are unhappy with this tournament, but last I looked, there is no cost to signing up for this tournament, meaning this tournament is FREE for you to play.
If this tournament is FREE for you to play and you don't even have to travel to play it, then you should be grateful to Caterina and Tesla for taking their time to organize this, finding sponsors, and having a prize pool for the community.
Taking your frustration out on the organizers just discourages them (and other organizers) from organizing SC2 tournaments in the future. I'm sure Caterina and Tesla will smoothen things out by tomorrow, but to all the ******* who are griping on the organizers, this may be the last time they organize a FREE event for your benefit.
Less organizers of SC2 tournaments is a LOSS for the SC2 community. Just be patient and let them learn from tonight so we as a community can benefit from organizers like them for future tourneys.

I hate to beat a dead horse, because I love horses, and I hate being negative, but...
If you were around on the stream for an hour leading up to the tournament and an hour after the scheduled start time for the tournament, I think it's hard not to be a little disgruntled. They organized a 512 person tournament and then showed up completely nonchalant and were oblivious to the majority of the problems occurring for the first hour. They told us to wait until 25 after the hour for no-shows, and then spent the majority of the time squabbling over which pro gamer to cast for round one. 80% of the players were left completely in the dark, and random players from the community did a lot more question answering than the admins.
It's not just that they bit off more than they could chew and need a few tournaments under their belt to learn to do things better. They had (what appeared to be) a total disregard for the time commitment of the people in the tournament. That isn't something you need experience to avoid. They spent the majority of the first hour bickering over which game to cast when anyone who wasnt qxc or kawaiirice had no idea what was going on. Casting a game in the first round of a pro stomping on a gold level player should have been very last on the list of things to do, but it seemed to be all they were concerned with. The stream and the thread were full of unanswered questions.
I was mildly offended because I felt like my time was not valued whatsoever. I showed up and had my time wasted. I am perfectly fine with taking one for the team and understanding the bigger picture if the problem that is leading to my time being wasted was unavoidable, but a majority of the problems tonight were completely avoidable.

The players invest time. They say time is money for a reason. Monetary investments are not the only kinds of investments one can make.
Less organizers for sc2 tournaments isn't a loss for the sc2 community in every regard. I'd rather have five refined and efficient tournament organizers than 20 mediocre ones. If the tournament organizers have a habit of putting together tournaments that fall apart or that the community is displeased with, i think it is completely proper to have them feel some heat so they either step up their game or move aside from more capable organizers.
I don't mean to imply that these tournament organizers are ones that should be pushed aside, but competition breeds better competitors. Reasonable criticism is very necessary. I don't think its a stretch to say that this tournament fell apart pretty quickly. If you don't make displeasure known, you're not going to get as much growth in tournament quality.

You think we want to waste your time? You think it we planned to have issues with binary beast or to have many people drop out? Please consider we have put WEEKS into this event. We have put a lot of dedication and time into it. I stopped casting to do nothing more than focus on the brackets and get things speed up. I'm sorry it was such a mess. However this is the largest tournament we have hosted together. Like I have said many times, both on here and on the streams - We are very sorry for how this has turned out. We are going to make changes for the next one - for sure. So please bare with us and forgive us for this one. Btw - We only wanted to follow someone who was at least semi-known for the first match. Though I'm sorry if you felt offended, we never intended that.

And you realize that it takes time to learn how to organize tournaments like this efficiently?
I'm sorry, but you are extremely short sighted. Once Catreina and Tesla sort out the issues for this tournament, there is no doubt the future tournaments they hold will run much more smoothly and will be much better than their first try at a SC2 tournament.
Why would you go bashing on organizers setting up a tournament for a newly released game?
And yes, go ahead and give them constructive criticism if you think you can help them. However, some people aren't giving them constructive criticism like EleanorRIgby. How is EleanorRIgby's quote of "fucking fail hire xeris" constructive criticism?

Tesla, many of us are happy that you and Caterina put in the time to organize this. We're sure the both of you will have things running better tomorrow.
Please don't give up and we look forward to the rest of the tournament and future tournaments that you and Caterina organize.

Well thank you so much. You are right - we do accept suggestions and such, just not negative. Anyhow - I have no plan to stop hosting tournaments for the Starcraft community. ^^

This x 100. Well said.
1. 512 people monitored by 2 (or 4, whatever) is insane. Get more volunteers. 2. That many games cannot be physically played and updated in one day, let alone at the latest hours of night. This should have been done with one round being a few days, that way you could play a game, send in replay, get your next opponent. You said you did so to avoid conflict with any other tournaments, but I don't see any going on this weekend. 3. Having check-ins for a 512 person tournament is just silly. Just tell people to play their games. They knew weeks in advance where to be, and if they don't show, their opponent gets a by. Simple as that.
Of course, this post might be claimed to be too harsh and white knights will simply flame me.
