Fair enough, and I hope you guys fix your credibility problem, I just don't want to be told you guys are "laying down the truth" when I have a factually accurate story (no idea if that guy is associated with you or not, but he has MLG in his tag as you do and did post something inflammatory).
I honestly have no clue who you spoke to...e.g. I do not recognize the tag. Regardless, lets take this off line and get it fixed. Again, my email is aapicella@mlgpro.com. Thanks for your patience and sorry for any bad experience you have had.

They're wasting a big opportunity, IMO. I think at least some of the bracket should be invites, for the really great players and then have a qualifier, much like the GG invitational. edit: bah I keep double posting sorry. $5000 in cash is definitely bigger than the HDH already so... And inviting players would destroy the whole point of an OPEN tournament wouldn't it? True, 32 slots and apparently first come first serve isn't ideal, but hopefully they work something out to make sure the truly talented even get into these "qualifying rounds" for the sake of the spectators for these events. MLG can use SC2.com to see if the player is AT LEAST diamond. But if they open up slots that might not be necessary. As every participant is money to MLG anyway. Maybe with more participants the cash prizes can be bigger. Who cares if some KNOWN top player has to grind through the RO256 who are a bunch of bronze players. They don't even have to be casted or shown in any way. Who knows we might get the next TLO out of this (believe it not, there was a point where no one knew who he was).
I just think that there are going to be a lot of first-time SC viewers watching that stream (assuming there is a stream). If we want this to stick (though I'm sure it will regardless), we want the most competitive games possible. I love the spirit of an open tournament, but do we really want first come, first served for such as small bracket? It's pretty much gonna be luck of the draw as to who gets in this tournament. I'm all for MLG's open tournament in Halo, but there are 256 spots there and the top players are seeded regardless.

Many many tournaments during beta all had the same "big names" but did not see similar success. So I would not say inviting players would be the key to getting views.
Not to mention that this is for the most part a North American event. A lot of players in these beta invitationals don't even live in the US. I don't think winning would even pay for their expenses.
I think this is comporable to the HDH in that, much like the HDH views came from "the commentators' popularity on youtube," MLG already has many people who watch their stream on tournament weekends. MLG much more known than Day9, much like HD and Husky. News of this tournament is definitely going to spread beyond TL. Given the already established fanbase, and the amount of people who are demonstrably dedicated to watching SC2 (as illustrated by HDH), why wouldn't MLG want to start this out with a bang?
edit: to clarify after re-reading, I'm not trying to argue that the invites are the key for viewers, but rather that great players make great games, and great games are most likely what will cause the viewer base within MLG to grow.

Well I already love you guys for even replying to this, so I know what I'll be doing tomorrow: resume revisions and an audition reel. I'll send all of it to both of you.

They do multiple events a year, if this sells out I'm sure it'll be larger in the next event a couple months away.

Hell, it's about damn time. Keep up the good work JP! It'll be interesting to see who shows up for the tournament. I'm assuming it will be streamed. Here's hoping for QXC and Nony!

This is awesome! Can't wait to see IdrA represent CJ Entus in MLG. Hopefully! :o

would love to see International names come over and dominate!

alright, it's time for the big money teams that have popped up over the last year or so to step up and send some of their players

Really interested to hear how this turns out. I wish I could be there to see it.
Obviously you guys have a lot of experience with these live tournaments so you know how to predict turnout and participation. A $60 entry fee for a $5k tournament that is only 32 slots, all open reg, for a game that is as popular as SC2 makes no sense to me at all. In a completely positive and intrigued way, I am fascinated that that you have the field so small, the entry fee so low, and the payout so big. I would expect at least a blind auction in advance for the slots or something... my mind is blown by how this appears to work and wondering how the numbers will scale up as SC2 grows in popularity.
Quite excited for this, anything that boosts SC2 as an ESPORT is a good thing.

How do you plan on making it a LAN event?

MLG explosion in here. Good to see! Hope to see some invite events rather than pure open registration (maybe open reg to select tiers of players).

Ofcourse.
What's 5000$ these days to a progamer. -- on topic - MLG never has failed to impress me with their great organization, streams and whatnot.
Thanks MLG Hope to see some reps / vods / streams.

You got a point, but if the prize pool is good, would be easy money for you if that is so. 8)
