all I see is Orlando, Washington D.C., Raleigh, Columbus, and Dallas

Those were the venues for this season. It varies season to season.

After Blizzard starts it's pro divisions I'm sure that will be one of the requirements to enter. If you can't make it into the top league online you really have no business showing up to play at mlg.

They make their money from random halo teams who have no chance of winning entering their tournaments. I doubt they would go full invite like they should.

jalstar, this is also a regular tourney with a prize pool and everything. No doubt top 8 (16?) will get points and be seeded as well. I'm concerned, however, that the prize pool and bracket aren't large enough to draw the best players in NA. No one wants mediocre players in a supposed "pro" league.

perhaps MLG is going a different route, like the EPS in Germany: top players qualify in several tournaments for the larger championship. That might make more sense, considering that MLG travels around the country.

MLG is well-known on the gamebattles and MLG communities for not paying out money they owe. I made over $1000 in a series of tournaments for a different RTS and I didn't get my money until after I contacted the BBB, the NY AG and the FTC. Even then it took 8 months when I was told 30-90 days. I have a friend who is owed over $1000 for CoD4 that never got his money.

Take MLG's participation with SC2 with a grain of salt. They are not a reputable company.

These were most definitely ONLINE situations though. MLG live events work much differently

He said anyone that can prove they are owed a check, he will write one himself. Something to that effect.

It kind of confuses me how much of the MLG community think Starcraft 2 can be as big as Halo: Reach. Am I just oblivious to the other gaming communities? I was under the impression that the Starcraft scene is much much bigger than Halo. ???

With that said, it's good to see MLG pick up Starcraft 2 and hopefully open up the doors to a competitive proleague in North America similar to that of Korea! Goodluck JP!

This.

considering MLG's size and capital I doubt they would begrudge anyone $1,000 dollars. They can't afford to make themselves look bad like that.

HDH wasn't a LAN event.

True, but my comment about exposure remains unchanged. HDH got hundreds of thousands of views. It would be a good to MLG if they got just a reasonable fraction of that, but without top players and big money it's not gonna happen. They're wasting a big opportunity, IMO.

I think at least some of the bracket should be invites, for the really great players and then have a qualifier, much like the GG invitational.

edit: bah I keep double posting sorry.

Everything has to be an invitational apparently. Harpin on the lesser skilled dooders that are looking for some LAN experience is pretty weak.

Sounds like PR bullshit to me, they've been intentionally obscuring routes to talk to higher-ups. When I was trying to get my money, I was asking every staff member how I could speak to someone higher up the line. They all refused to give me any contact info. They force everything through lower-level staffers.

Well, they do. Go read the GB/MLG forums and ask around.

Not gonna hijack the thread anymore just letting people know that MLG is not reputable and you need to be very careful to document any winnings incase it comes to legal action.

I've been a member on the MLG forums since 2008 and have never heard any such allegations. The first time I heard them, in fact, was on DJ Wheat's show.

The Halo scene dwarfs starcraft in case your unaware. At least in the U.S. First place in vegas for halo is 100,000 usd. The Ogre twins (ogre 1 and ogre 2 who are twin brothers, only 1 of them still plays) and there former longtime teammate walshy have all earned well over half a million dollars each from the Halo series.(MLG signed them to a 3 year, 250,000$ each, deal a while back) They dominated the scene of halo1, and halo 2. In halo 3 they have maintained top 8 but they are not the halo bonjwa's they once were. One year they won every mlg event. The ogre twins never lost a game 2v2 in halo 1 EVER! They also won the wcg 2v2 in halo 2. The last mlg halo 2 event (before they switched over to halo3) they're team of 4 consisting of Ogre1, Ogre 2, walshy, and strongside won the vegas finals without losing a single game in any best of 5's or best of 7's. But I recently read a blog by one of the ogres that says he has approximately 50,000 dollars of unpaid winnings. But he doesn't specify which events and which leagues owe him. They're team was STK (Shoot To Kill) back in the halo 1 days. They've gone by Final Boss ever since.

Hi my name is Adam Apicella, I'm the SVP of League Operations and Production for Major League Gaming. My direct email is aapicella@mlgpro.com. We always pay prize money, period. In the 7 years I have been here this has been a strict business practice, regardless if 10 people show up or 256 teams show up...we always pay. So there you go, no obscure routes to higher ups, I run everything. If you are owed money I want to get you paid.

Hope to see you guys on the circuit!
