I agree I could have gotten it wrong, as I was reading that post, it just seemed overly negative in my opinnion and I didn't actually read his later post, where he's basicly saying the same things that I am about the different targets of audiences and the balance between commentating skill versus high level of game knowledge.

It was a legitimate question and statement. What would happen if John Madden started calling a football a foosball. "Sorry guys i just do that"...do you think viewers would react? Do you think no one should point it out because he's doing a good thing commentating?

I just keep seeing these small hints from established casters/participants in the TL community (Not exclusive TL representatives) that HD and Husky are 'stealing their thunder' somehow, and I felt I had to comment on that.

Stealing who's thunder? TL's or casters?
If we thought that, why would the event be added to the calendar and have a 140 page thread dedicated to it. dont. talk. shit.

No doubt that TL has done loads for the community and for E-sports, I think therefor I will stop hijacking this thread before it becomes completely OT.

Please understand that I am totally aware that I am new here and that anything I say will be taken with a grain of salt (as it should be). If I'm honest this post makes me a little angry. It comes off to me as arrogant. Yes you may know a lot more about the game then many others, including myself, but that is irrelevant.

The sponsors don't care how much knowledge of the game the casters have, they only care about how many people hear about there company. The players don't care about the ability of the casters to pronounce specific units in the game they mostly care about the prize pool. The vast majority of people who watch the games don't care in the slightest if the casters "have a good understanding of the game" they only care that they are entertained by the tourney.

In fact I can't think of many people who care about the things you are complaining about.

Your example asked how many people would care if Madden started calling a football a foosball. I don't think many people would care. Madden was loved for his personality more then for his knowledge of the game. What about Al Michaels, who never played or coached, but was still very popular. Should he not of picked up a mike?

I don't really understand why your commenting at all. If the casts annoy you so much why are you watching? Why do you care enough to make several posts in this thread? I can't believe that you are trying to give constructive criticism, because there is nothing constructive about what you are saying, it is all negative.

This game is brand new. Actually less then brand new; it's still in beta. There is no precedent for how a caster should behave. Your statements are simply based on nothing. You have no authority to say what kind of casting is good or bad. If anything HD and Husky have more authority then you do as they sometimes get over 100,000 views on there videos and as far as I know you do not cast at all. Being a good player does not make you a good caster (Just look at all the crap people on espn who are only there because they played in the NFL).

Maybe this is getting off topic and if it is I am sorry, but the arrogance of your statements really did set me off. These guys are bringing starcraft to the west. The number of viewers they get is unparalleled for any esport in the west. And you are complaining because Husky didn't say zergling the way you want. Stop trying to inflate your ego by putting others who are succeeding down.

Sometimes a funny accent or way of pronouncing something can actually become a trademark of a particular commentator. In Australia our most famous cricket commentator Richie Benaud can't pronounce the word "two" properly but it's become one of his most endearing characteristics.

I'd rather my commentators be actual human beings that have quirks like the rest of us than robots who know 10000 build orders but have the personality of a toilet seat.

when i play on us server i get roughly bnet1 high latency, and it doesnt affect my opponent's latency as far as i know. that makes stopping rushes about a billion times harder than usual, and its the reason my hatch died instead of being cancelled the 2nd time.

I think it's pretty ridiculous to actually be upset over the mispronunciation of "Zergling." It hardly makes an impact whatsoever.

On the other hand, it is a fair to critique them for (at times) grossly generalizing statements. And I think they do need to balance the amount of time they spend casting with actual time played. They need to familiarize themselves with the meta-game, especially a beta that is constantly evolving. Though at the same time, it's important to understand that they probably have a lot to worry about at the moment.

Either way, if you're not finding their casts enjoyable, just mute them and talk to yourself.

Keep up the work guys! There are plenty of people like me who appreciate this and anticipate the rest of the games. Hooray for wasting time during finals week! :D

Loved the round of 16, and as always excellent casting from HD and Husky. Plenty of drama, exciting moves, and crazy strats you'd never see at lower levels.

Lookin forward to seeing who'll take home first place in the tournament =]

How can people expect others to not talk about the games in the game topic? We cant put in spoilertaggs in every singel post, what a mess to read the topic it would be then.

If you did not watch the games, and are waiting for the vods, just read the first page, or look at the youtube channel and dont read the topic.

How does this work exactly? I thought there was something in place to make the latency on both sides the same, to keep it fair. I read R1CH's thread about SC2 networking, but the vast majority of it(like most of what R1CH says) went over my head.

If it is different for the two sides, that is definitely a huge fairness issue. Playing with really high latency is so much harder and would be a big disadvantage I imagine.

I live in South Africa and play on European Bnet servers, I use a proxy app to connect with SC2 that lowers my latency to playable levels (generally about 200ms).

Perhaps the tournament organisers should look into something similair for future transatlantic matchups, to level the playing field? I can't imagine what it's like for a high level SC2 player to be crippled by high latencies. Must be infuriating as hell.

(From SA to American Westcoast\Eastcoast servers I get about double my ping to Euro servers though.)

First of all i would like to thank Husky and HD for the time and effort they put in to this.

Its allways great to see people working and trying to make stuff happen not because they just want to make money but because they love it.

I allso loved yesterdays matches.

That being said, there is allways room for improvement.

- The on the spot interviews are a good idea but, you need to make that smoother. You guys know when the replay is about to finish. Let one of you allready start contacting the guy you want to interview so that you can start right after the replay.
- As stated in the Live stream, the sponsor cares more about the youtube channel then the live, perhaps during downtime between 2 matches, u could make some sort of promo for the sponser so that the live would get more intresting for him.
- You are ofc trying really hard to make stuff work as smooth as possible. During that process you must understand that you are not alone. Somebody allready had all the problems you are having, they fixed it or found a way to work around it, ask them for help, they to have a passion and they will be more then willing to share.
- I understand that your inet has limitations so you coudnt improve the quality. As i see it, not all the money from the sponsor HAS to be prize money. If you are going to pursue this and make it as best as possible, i see no reason why not a % can be invested in better quatilty stream.

Overall, very good job and a big big thanks looking forward to next matches.

I am going to be uploading one game tonight as I cant stand to be awake any more.

I'm rendering the next 5 games and will hopefully have those up tomorrow. Depending on when I wake up I may be able to get the last 3 games handed off to HD for his upload, but they will all be up within 2 days max.

If you're f5ing our pages, I would recommend waiting a day or so
