I suggest Idra makes a thread called "Raising money to lose bet vs Smuft, please donate". And then have everyone who praises him chip in.
But seriously, I do understand why Idra would not bet that kind of money, it's A LOT. And the odds of him winning will not be over 50% considering Smuft's previous record. In one week you can easily play about 300 games (without stressing yourself too much), which is more than enough to get back in touch with the game. If the game would have high-stakes ($5k) I'd bet on Smuft 2:1 in a heartbeat.

lol I can't believe I'm actually defending Idra again but you seriously need to develop some reading comprehension.
His point is that while cheese will win you some games, it's very luck-based depending on scouting and your opponent's build. Because he believes he's much better at standard play than his opponents, it would be stupid to cheese because he's much better off playing the standard game and just outplaying his opponents. He despises cheese because it turns the game into a coinflip where it doesn't matter how good you are at actually playing the game. Players like Flash and Jaedong cheese from time to time because they play against much tougher opponents.
The problem is Idra takes this to the extreme, it seems like he believes everything slightly unorthodox his opponents throw at him is cheese and completely luck-based.

I hate to say it but the skill display this tournament was somewhat low. I watched the streaming finals and I was able to call who was going to win early(within first minute) simply because the wrong buildings were made. You guys were making the incorrect unit mixes to combat the known 2 hatch roach power.
TvZ. If you know guy is going 2 hatch roach power you do not go rax / reactor-hellions. 2 hatch roach power is the natural counter to that. By making the factory / reactor you essentially conceded the game. You would have to kill 5-7 drones or 4-5 roaches to be on even footing vs the Z which means you'd have to kill more to gain an edge. That simply is not going to happen.
ZvZ Going 1 hatch roach power vs 2 hatch roach power is not good. 1 hatch roach power is ok if guy has a tendency to all in lings but other than that... You're gonna have to do something to combat the early hatch not try to match roach for roach with less larva/econ.
I guess its a beta and everyone is having fun and experimenting 8)

It isn't dodging. Its just the knowledge that starcraft is a waste of time unless you're having fun doing it. No of course not, you'd need some more incentive than ego competition. This situation is exactly akin to that. 8)
