Once you lift one of those structures you can add the second depot to finish it. Thanks Iaguz for the quick and helpful answer! I was playing a game today on Vaani using your tip to wall, but I got 7 roach rushed as a response to it. What's the proper way to hold off the roaches if all you have is 2 marines in a bunker?

Pull SCV's. Also you should be SCV scouting

An 11/11 or 12/14 can punish a protoss who doesn't scout/make a unit before throwing down nexus/finish that first zealot. The 11/11 can win the game immediately vs that sort of Protoss whereas a 12/14 will probably have to just content itself with cancelling the natural and keeping it cancelled well after you've started your own. These aren't things you can really know unless you know how the opponent likes to play and you're just metagming them. 12/14 is also a really safe opener if you're sure the Protoss is just going to do something lame like proxy oracle or 10 gate gateway chrono or such. Absurdly safe expansion opener.

Absurdly safe expansion opener. I agree with iaguz. A cheeky move you can do is hide the 2nd rax so it looks like a standard 1rax expand!

Something that is defensive would be preferable. *I just started getting back into HOTS again and the mirror matchup is confusing haha

Q. Can I open 2 rax Reapers for extra pressure? On March 23 2013 01:24 TheDwf wrote: Not really, because Zerg takes a fast gas, stalls until Metabolic Boost is done and then threatens a Baneling bust. The second rax would come too late (unless you're going 8-8-8), heavier Reaper harass is best done out of a single proxy rax. We have seen this already couple times on cattalena in pro games, and i would assume it works on secret springs as well.

We have seen this already couple times on cattalena in pro games, and i would assume it works on secret springs as well. It only works as a hidden trick. The key is that most pro Zergs don't Drone scout in addition to their Overlord, so you get to hide the second Rax, because an Overlord that assumes there's no Marine is asking to get punished hard. The Overlord has to check your front for the normal Rax, and then misses the one behind the mineral line, or wherever. Plus, the point about Baneling Busts is well taken if the Zerg doesn't overreact to the Reapers and lose way too many Drones. Now, I've tried this on Vaani and Catallena, and it works some of the time, but if the Zerg gets a hint of what I'm up to before 3 Reapers are out, it falls on its face hard.

I've always done the reaper expand followed by a reactor'd barracks to pump out marines, but I don't like how I have to stretch my resources thinner by having two bases only to meet a bunch of lings/banes/roaches or gateway units at my natural's entrance. Granted that I'm only in gold league, but I feel like I'm more in a position of control when I get a MMM army first to possibly do some damage or get some map presence before expanding. It's won me several games where my opponent gets really tech-greedy by rushing to muta or archon (once again, I'm only in gold league). Its very viable if and only if you are not getting supply blocked and getting your units on time. You essentially can get a huge army lead and then make something happen with it. Problem is if you don't you are kinda hopelessly behind.

Don't listen to the other poster if your goal is to get any better. Sticking on one base for an extended period will hurt your game. Basically everybody fast expands versus Zerg...when is the last time you saw a pro game where they didn't? Probably a two rax. There are some gas first builds that are strong against Protoss but you can't just sit in your base making units for an extended period of time thinking you have any chance in hell because you don't. If your goal is one base all in you have to be attacking him IMMEDIATELY when your units come out AND you have to be at least mildly successful or you lose. For the love of God expand. Probably why you are in gold league

Seems that since its from August that it should be outdated a bit but I know it doesn't change that much over time to some extent. Thanks! No idea what you are refering to with "this", but with the exception of minor BO and Army Movement changes I don't think much has changed since August. I can only advice you to look up some recent TvZs (http://sc2links.com/ is a nice site).
