Not sure if this has been asked, since this is a pretty long thread, but I have a quick question about Spending skill. I just moved onto Protoss L2. On L1, my spending skill was GM as Protoss, however now on L2 I dropped to silver, since I maxed out on my army and just a moved. It did not matter how much pylons, building and nexuses I threw down, I could not spend all the my money from three base income with max army. So the question is: Once I maxed out my army, how do i keep my money low? I must also admit, that on L1, I started attacking earlier (at about 120 supply). With L2 i waited until about 180. Edit: My saturation speed on L1 was master for 1,2 and 3 base and on L2 (firstgame) bronze base 1 and master base 2 and 3.

So I understand that the benchmarks and SQ thing were done with research and statistics etc, but whenever I look at high level players "scores" on the GGtracker uploads GMs frequently have bronze for SQ and even below Masters on their saturation speeds. Why is this? Did you watch the games? I am no expert and also you do not reference the actual games you mention so I can't check. I am sure however, that should you watch the game(s) you may answer this for yourself. For example: If it's a long game and the minerals and/or gas was banked then that will definately drop the SQ down. Saturation speed: If there was any early aggression (out of the "normal" games like 10 pool or a bunker at the expo or something similar) then the player would have been forced to build more units earlier that workers, thus saturation speed was slower.

Both skills are very useful and will give you a solid foundation to work with as you start to journey towards later and later games. Oh wow, I didn't expect you to advise Cheesing! Interesting. I will take your suggestion. Thank you. ♥

I could go on and on, but you probably get the idea by now. ![]()

Sc2 is so phenomenal in that there are no bad calls. No missed fouls. Nothing of the sort at all. It is simple, if the game allows you to do it, you can do it. This includes the most aggressive and the least aggressive strategies. Learning and perfecting a cheese is a great way to focus in on refining a build, improving your micro, and your multitasking. The short game format helps you to stay focused and slowly work up your endurance for longer games. No experienced running coach says to a first time runner that wants to run a marathon, "hey, just run 26.2 miles right now" You have to work your way up slowly or you'll run into knee problems etc. This is the Sc2 equivalent of developing bad habits because you're biting off more than you can chew, so instead of learning to use control groups and camera keys you just manually do everything because there's no time to learn or you'll lose the game. I could go on and on, but you probably get the idea by now. ![]() Thanks for the lengthy reply! You have a great explanation. The only reason I was surprised was because I keep reading "you'll never improve if you only cheese," from many people. However, I've also read some people saying that newbies should at least learn how to defend cheeses, so perhaps I shouldn't be as surprised. I've been trying to do everything since the beginning without any sense of structure. TheCore + TheStaircase has given me a lot more confidence. Thanks. Speaking of TheCore, while I have your attention, is there any advice you have in order to practice using the camera location keys? I'm already using them way more than the average player I think, but I still forget when I'm not versing AI. I understand you suggest playing the "baneling drop" game with friends but I don't think anyone has the patience to help me. Anyway, again, thank you. Your time is appreciated! SC2 is a great game.

I think the most mind blowing thing was after I did 2-3 games on TheStaircases Step 1 I decided to upload a replay of a "normal" game where I tried a build order and stuff. That game has all marks as bronze.... Even though I am ranked gold it really shows that I got to gold not on solid mechanics as those are in the bronze levels (according to the tool). http://ggtracker.com/players/1497274/Order This is so amazing. I'm not going to deny I had ladder anxiety and I was really uncomfortable playing the ladder. But I also think games vs AI provide false statistics so I went into the unranked ladder with TheStaircase (even tho in reality thats kind of the same as ranked due to MMR). What can I say.. I'm having so much fun. I wish I had more time to try more of this right now. The not worrying about winning because you know you're gonna lose is so... liberating. I was expecting it before starting but not as strongly as it actually appears to be. I just got my first report with a spending skill of a grandmaster and that really somehow makes me more proud and happy than winning. This is also my first report with all marks being same or higher as my goal (Diamond) so I think I should go now and play more games as I want to actually go to step 2 ![]() Thank god I found this thread and thank you JaKaTaK for helping us noobs with wisdom!
