Alright, so I take my 18 gas at around 3:30, Vortix takes double ( or quad ) gas at 6:00. My zergling speed will be done way in time for any large bio push and one base hellion play ( around 7 minutes ), while any 6 queen opening has to defend with queens and slowlings. Any runby against a slow ling zerg is nigh game ending, while against any zerg that has speed out it is nigh on suicidal unless the zerg completely screws up. I will admit that the later gas is obviously more economical ( by about 300 or so minerals ) but I prefer having any bio-push turned into a complete all in over having it get free reign over my third. The difference is that you can delay your 3rd and 4th gas as well, giving you more minerals during that time because you can still support getting a +1 upgrade with the single gas while not delaying your lair all that much.

I take my second gas when I want to start my lair, which tends to be around 6 minutes give or take. I take the lair and another +1 upgrade right after, allowing me to delay that second evolution chamber. I can also delay my roach warren because no hellions are going to go run in against a 4 queen wall and they certainly won't kill off the third. You just bring all four queens if you ever have to defend against a large push and flood in with speedlings if they attack the third. Vortix's build does not have speedlings out at this time, so a defense with his build is much more difficult.

It could definitely be the difference in opponents, being aruond 2000 MMR myself. But really, I haven't had real difficulty against Banshee/hellion harass on my third as terrifying and game-ending as you describe it.

It is terrifying but it's definitely not game ending, Vortix managed to win all of his games vs Supernova even after he lost his 3rd, but I think that's more a function of Supernova not being prepared for the Mutalisk counter attack or being comfortable playing against Vortix's aggression instead of being the aggressor himself, where MVP was prepared for the Mutalisk counter attack and comfortable expanding and letting Vortix come to him. I'm also obviously not as good as Vortix, and I probably need my 3rd more than he does

I don't have a problem defending my 3rd with the 6 Queen build and Slowlings vs Hellions, Bio or the Hellion, Marauder Combat Shield Marine push, having the additional 2 Queens allows you to save energy for Transfuses and it's extremely difficult for them to kill your Queens if your micro is on target, likewise I don't have problems with Hellions doing a run by on my natural because I have 2 more Queens to push them back and Slowlings, but I do have a problem with Hellions doing a run by on my 3rd (like everybody does I guess). I just think the 6 Queen build is better at defending than the 4 Queen build, and it only makes sense considering you delayed your Gas and your 3rd in order to increase your defensive unit production. If you only spread Creep Tumors with 2 of your Queens, store energy on 2 of your Queens for Transfuse and injects with 2 of your Queens it's really hard for Terran to break you, and I think the only times they do break you is when you get over eager with your Creep Spreed and don't have the energy saved for Transfuse.

How are you playing with your 18 Gas? Are you taking your Drones off Gas once you research Zergling Speed? My timings always seem to be off for building my 2nd set of Queens, taking my 3rd and getting my 1/1 upgrades when I do this and I'm not convinced it's an answer to the 1/1/1 push, altho' it certainly does help. I don't think anyone takes 4 gas at 40 Supply, they usually take 2 Gas at 40 supply and then 2 more Gas after they start their 2 Evolution Chambers because it all lines up nicely with Zergling speed, 2 level 1 upgrades and Lair. Maybe I should try more dynamic Gas timings like 18 gas, take Drones off Gas and then take 3 Gas after my 2nd set of Queens spawn and build a 5th Queen for Transfuse, because I think 5 Queens is the "money" number for being able to hold the 3rd vs Hellions and Banshees reliably ... Transfuse is so awesome.

Hmm, I'll try the 18 Gas, Zergling speed, pull Drones from Gas, build the 5th Queen, take 3 more Gas and then build 2 Evolution Chambers and see where that gets me, I think I remember Stephano and Nerchio doing something really similar to this timing with my 5th Queen replaced by their 1st Spine Crawler (which I feel is awful). We'll see how that works out, maybe I've just been too mechanical/economical with my Gas timings in the 4+ Queen builds and I don't think 18 gas prevents us from taking a 7:00 3rd altho' it does prevent us from taking a 6:00 3rd if I'm not mistaken? I don't even get the point of that 6:00 3rd other than greed, because it can easily be forced to cancel vs any push out and trying to saturate it is dangerous vs Hellions.

I'll try something like this off of the 11 Overpool/18 Gas build and see where the openings converge, I like the earlier Pool and Gas if for no other reason it's much harder for Terran to know exactly what I'm doing.

Well 18 Gas into Roach Warren seems to be off to a good start at MLG lol, apparently I was dead on about having to build that Marauder for the Bunker for Terran and Gas stealing to delay Cloak for Zerg, it looks like the Pro Zergs are on top of it already.
