havent had much time to play since switching to these hotkeys. I have the basics down but am still very very clumsy. Been playing 3v3s which I never play otherwise just to practise getting used to main keys, havent even bothered about cameras or more than 2 keys for army yet so yeah...

What kind of custom games would speed up the process? I literally never play custom games so I haven o clue.

edit: also am I wrong or does the suggested control groups differ between thecore data and thecore development? Terran jiop that is.

If my graphics card wasn't blown, I'd just tell you to head over to the stream so I could tell you what's up. For now, if you would download and try the layout and come back with specific questions, that would be the best way to do this.

@Westy
You set the cameras with Alt+JIOP; and recall them with Ctrl+Shift+JIOP;
For example, to set the camera for your main base, click on your main CC/Nex/Hatch press and hold Alt and then P. From now on, when you need to jump to your main base, just press and hold Ctrl+Shift and then P.

We're looking at making some custom games to help you learn the layout, but I would try my method for improving mechanics on Casual difficulty as a really fast way to get the keys under your fingers.

Last question. How are protoss meant to be warping in? Warpgate, for me the most important key, is all the way out of range on number 6.

Are we supposed to be binding all out warpgates to O?

There are some disparity between the hotkey layout and the data document. Not sure if it applies to the other layouts, but for TRM:

Build ghost academy
Build fusion core

We strongly suggest that you bind all gateways/warpgates to O and do not use the warp in key.

I thought we had fixed that in the last patch. I'll double check to make sure, but you have version 0.3.3 correct?

One thing that I might suggest for Terran or Protoss players using the Core is to change the camera hotkeys slightly, so that they're easier to press. I changed the assignment from alt + JIOP to ctrl + shift + JIOP, and removed the auto center. This allows you to set the base cams before you have your other bases, and (for me) it's easier to press alt + JIOP to quickly look at a base as opposed to ctrl + shift + JIOP to quickly recall a base. Since Terran or Protoss players don't have to inject, it works out pretty well, in my opinion.

From experience I am kind of in favor of this approach. It is way smoother to recall with alt and bind with shift+control. And since I really do not ever use the center on current selection I might as well unbind that. Obviously a very race specific modification though.

WTF Raven's The hot key for seeker misle is impossible to use

its just in a really bad hard t use position causes cramps just trying to reach it

any way to re adjust this to make it easier to use?

Ravens are being used more often vs zerg and tvt and it really is a must.


also why is building so hard"????

It takes so much effort to build depos rax and crap im not kidding i cant stand it i want to use this build everythings nice

but is there no other , more ergonomic way to build/advance build as terran besides those keys way over there i keep missing the normal build key and hitting a hot key or hitting advance build 9/10 times really makes using the new hot key set up hard.

The build basic key isn't used because that key is bound to Guardian Shield, which is used more often than Hallucinate is. Having Guardian Shield more accessible than Hallucinate makes sense, at least to me.

Yes I have that version. Just not sure which is correct. I can only speak for TRM.

In data doc, salvage bunker is H but that is also the stop command.
In data doc, build ghost academy and fusion core are M and H which makes more sense in terms of the keyscores in development doc than the downloaded hotkeys of H and ,.

Oh no! I spent ~ 3 weeks getting accustomed to Jakatak righty. Been working great for me at mid masters. Is it worth transitioning to this new layout even though it is in Beta? Or should I wait it out.

The transition process was really painful, but I liked the idea of having camera hotkeys in an easily accessible location. I usually peak around top 25 Master, but upon starting the transition I was unable to win a single game. I am a Toss player and also have a second account that I offrace with that's in Diamond, so I played on there as Toss after losing ~15 in a row on my main account. Dropped to low Plat after about 25 games and struggled to win. About 2 weeks and 60ish games later I was back in Diamond facing low masters, so I switched back to my main and have been very satisfied with the hotkey system since then.

i think final version will be after hots ... no use until then

however , ive just been doing boring solo games only making marines and scv.. so if any one wants to practice with me and help me get better or u need practice too pm ingame, we can do bronze 2s or yabot trainig, or unit micro games ( i have not made it this far yet, hot keys sooo hard to use)

That's not what I meant. When you press the key to hallucinate, you get to choose what unit you want to have hallucinated and in that menu the build basic key is not used.

Hasn't there been a big sign on that thread about theCore for the past few months? >.>

Anyways, simply laddering isn't really the most effective way to practice a hotkey layout. Best method IMO is in the description of this stream: http://www.twitch.tv/thejakatak

About this layout, there won't be many major changes from here on out until HotS, and even then it is very very unlikely there will be an overhaul, even for Zerg (so many abilities due to larvae... upgrades on hatches will be hell).

The only changes there have been for a while are usually just moving individual abilities to different keys. So yeah, go ahead, start playing with theCore.

isnt just playing a lot of games a better way and maybe do that once youve played 50 games or so? Once you get used to pushing certain keys for certain things then the description on the stream might come in handy, no?
