Yes, you are free to make your own files. TheCore Master Spreadsheet is the most up to date on what the files are built on.

@Akiyo
TheCore visualizer will be updated with the whole of 2.0. Until then you'll have to do without.

Suggested LK (Camera) and CG use is on R. Key Use Overview. That sheet is basically the best cheat sheet we have for 2.0.

Personally I like marines in 2 CGs, one for ranged and one for just marine marauder. This way I can kite while being healed by medivacs. I put reapers in harass and Stalkers in the same CG as the MM only. Makes it the same feeling when adding a single unit type into 2 CGs.

Don't be afraid to ask questions here! We do suggest you read the FAQ before posting to make it easier though

@JaKaTak Thanks! I had the cheatsheet open but i missed the video in the FAQ completely, thanks for pointing it out - it helps! Can't wait for Visualizer to get updated~ I asked about LK because i am curious if there is an optimal way to map them, or it really is suppose to be as simple as First base on first LK and so on. (I'd imagine further down the line I'll have to sacrafice a few base keys in trade for chokepoint keys...)

I am doing okay without visualizer after a few round and my brain figured out the square (MNHJ) and the T (90OL) and the camera group aren't actually a random mess, and that if I didn't learn most of my basics from your video, I would've think that this is just a very elaborate practical joke that i am not in on TL (lol).

From looking at RRM there still seems to be some inconsistencies between the github files and the master spreadsheet with cameras and control groups. A lot of the numbers are different, but more importantly some of the alternate create/add keys don't line up with the same control group as the key-use overview page designates. Alt+P adds to the 'O' control group instead of 'J'. Control+Shift+P creates the 'M' camera location instead of the 'J'. The Control+Shift+K create camera and Control+K recall camera keys aren't assigned at all. Also, Control+SemiColon is assigned as a camera recall (not sure if it is supposed to be or not).

Great work overall. I'm enjoying the changes. Worst part of the new layout for me so far has been how awkward alternating my pinky and middle finger for my macro monitoring feels. Control groups on pinky works great for starting keypress sequences, but it feels really slow for apm inflating macro CG spam

Anyway, thanks for the hard work.

Working on updating the files. We recently had a great day of progress and the Zerg and Random layouts have been finished up (as far as we know). The Master Spreadsheet is correct, so if you want to have the most up to date files, use the spreadsheet to update your own.

@McMatus,

I believe that the spreadsheets are updated to include the small and large layouts once the version in question goes live. 2.0 is still in alpha testing, so I would not expect to see those spreadsheets for a bit.

That being said, if you are familliar with version 1.0, it should be easy to convert. Just use the 1.0 spreadsheet to determine which RRM1.0 key maps to each RRS1.0 key, and then use that mapping to figure out what each RRS2.0 key does by looking at the RRM2.0 data.

If you find it tedious or difficult, hit me up and I'll see if I can help you out.

Hello Jak!

I'm loving the new RRM layout! It feels a lot more natural to me from your previous version. I'm having trouble remembering which buttons are for cameras and control groups, so I was wondering if you could comment on why you picked those keys, I thought knowing the theory might help me with remembering. Thanks!

Just wanna start off by saying thanks for your contributions, Jak. The Core 1.0 brought me back to StarCraft, and I never left again. Now, I am really appreciative of your work and everyone here seems to be loving Core 2.0, but I guess I just don't get it. Almost every action in 1.0 is comfortable and easy for me to execute, but now it seems to be the complete opposite for 2.0. I do like some changes like P being attack-move, but other changes like the pinky controlling five control groups I do not like. It seems like the philosophy behind putting attack-move on P rather than J is because attack-move is a command one issues many times a game so put the action on the stronger finger. This philosophy is great, but it seems that the pinky controlling five control groups goes directly against this philosophy. This might just be a personal problem of mine, but I like to actively use all of my control groups, and this new layout made that very difficult for me. Anyways, it's not actually problem as I could probably use 1.0 forever, but I just wanted to stop in, say thanks, and offer some constructive criticism.

In 2.0, all control groups are on the pinky and the middle finger with no exceptions. There are 5 control groups on each finger, with J, M, N, H, and Y for pinky, O, L, Period, 9, and 0 for middle.

The camera keys are mostly the same way, excluding Y and Period since there are 8 camera keys rather than 10 control groups, except a few have alternates. For example, Location 2 can be set with either Alt+O or Ctrl+Shift+i and recalled with either Shift+O or Ctrl+i. Same with Location 7 for Alt/Shift+M and Ctrl(+Shift)+P. For some reason Location 8 can be recalled with Ctrl+Semicolon but not set with Ctrl+Shift+Semicolon; not sure if that's a mistake or if there's a reason for that.

Firstly, You're Welcome! Glad you're enjoying TheCore. The pinky is connected to the strongest muscles in the hand. It has a higher potential for speed and dexterity. The reason we chose the changes in 2.0 is mentioned in the first update. It allows us to have a better balance of effort between control groups and abilities. Before CGs had an average key score of 5.4 and abilities had an average key score of 8.0. Now CGs have an average key score of 6.9 and abilities have an average key score of 6.7. This is especially important because there are more abilities than CGs and the lower priority abilities such as stop, patrol, and ultralisk production from larva, are actually quite important compared to the lower priority CGs that are rarely used.

Well i tested out the Core for a bit and I really like having the Attack Command on P since its easier to press but then again dislike a lot having 5 Cgs on my pinky finger.Maybe it works for other people but i dont really like that since i never really had problems with using abilties on theCore 1.0.

So yea im not sure if im gonna devote my time into learning the new layout.

It has quite a few changes to the RRM layout:
-no rapid fire
-stim is on [I]
-alternate center on current selction is on [space]
-siege units (WM,Tank) have alternate for siege/burrow on [I], unsiege/unburrow on [Ö]
-Medivac Boost on [I], Heal on [Ö], Load on [-], Unload on [K]

ControlGroup(CG)-setup:
[9] Marine/Marauder
[L] Ghost, TvZ Depot Wall
[M] WM/Tank
[H] Viking
[N] Medivacs for Army
[0](Zero) Drop, TvZ Hellbat/Thor
[.] earlygame harrass, 2nd Drop
[Z] throwaway, building scvs, emergency cg (ultra slow cg)


Siege Units on [M] => easier to press[K],[Ö] from the cg, [I],[ß] are easier to press when controlled one at a time from the main screen

The CGs are orderd in a ascending keyscore with the SAME score changes the finger and not more than 2 finger repetition

personally I removed rapid fire because I made more mistakes with it than I found it to be useful.

These are not all changes I made, but if someone is willing to test it and wants to know the reason behind it, just ask here I will explain it. JaKaTaK´s Method of finding the best Hotkey setup is the most scientific and certainly the superior one but I dont think there are all variables in yet.

Hi, I'm having a bit of an issue. My computer has begun to do a hard reset in-game (which has never happened before) today. It's happened 3 times already. Coincidentally, this is also the first day I've begun learning to use The Core. I don't see how the hotkeys could affect my computer in such a way, but seeing as how they started happening at the same time, I'm led to believe they're related. Is it a Windows 7 thing? Am I hitting some key combination on accident that causes a reboot? Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated, thank you.

There is no keyboard shortcuts that will make Windows 7 - or any windows for that matter to hard restart. Even a restart button/power button will cause Windows 7 to soft restart where all programs are closed one by one before logging out, shutdown before restarting.

I'd imagine it'd be a system crash proc'ed by one of the key combination, though. Try to notice what consistently crashes you? Is there any blue screen, "Windows has recovered from an error" on restart or other signs of crashes?

Maybe it's just me, but the RRM 2.0 updated 3-4 days ago broke TheCore for me, I had to revert to the version before that. The following keys are unbound due to conflicts:

EvolveChitinousPlating/UltraliskCavern=I (is conflicting with) EvolveAnabolicSynthesis2/UltraliskCavern=I

ResearchVoidRaySpeedUpgrade/FleetBeacon=N (In which attempting to bind it will conflict with Select Control Group 8 (N) and unbinds it for some reason - Is there a reason this is switched from W to N?)
ResearchSeekerMissile/StarportTechLab=M (Unbinds my Control Group 7 (M) for some reason too)

TerranShipWeaponsLevel1/Armory=I (is conflicting with) TerranVehicleAndShipPlatingLevel1/Armory=I
ResearchHighTemplarEnergyUpgrade/TemplarArchive=I (is conflicting with) ResearchPsiStorm/TemplarArchive=I
ResearchHallucination/CyberneticsCore= is just straight out unbound
EvolvePeristalsis/InfestationPit=N (is again, conflicting with CG8)


Also, what would you suggest to use as "Choose next subgroup" for someone who is uncomfortable using Mouse 4 or 5?

Have you tried to revert the hotkey change? (also always scan your porn...)
