Gave you guys some publicity the other day!
I happened to be watching TLO's stream and asked if he was already using TheCore during a pause on his Stream, somehow the question caught TLO's attention and he answered the question and gave his opinion on it briefly. A lot of people were asking what the Core was afterwards, i tried to point them in this direction ^^.
GLHF! Im going to the dark side of using external modifiers in combination with the core ofc. Dark Core anyone ?

What was TLO's answer to the question? I know he mentioned something about using a heavily customized layout.

For a while I did nearly the same (also german keyboard). I put cancel on "." But with 0.8.2 I switched it back. I never really liked the "+" for a controlgroup because it´s relative far away (for me more uncomfortable than ".". Also in that way you have 7 controlgroups on your indexfinger and 3 on the middlefinger. With the controlgroup on "." the distribution is 6 and 4. Besides from this small downsides I had no problem with this.
What do you have on "#"? (on the german keyboards it´s a key between apostrophe(ä) and enter)
I´m really looking forward to TLO using TheCore. It would be so cool.

I use the Core default camera rotation on #, to spot observers.

While I was talking with TLO I realized (or guessed) that many people would have enjoyed listening to the conversation. In the future I'm considering Live Streaming it, maybe ask chanman if he's interested in hosting and make a show out of it, or just recording it and releasing it on youtube. What do you all think?
TLO uses a US Qwerty keyboard, so unfortunately you won't see any special optimizations for german keyboard in TheCore - TLO edition. For rapid fire, TLO uses the same ones that TheCore uses, with the exception of corruption and contaminate, not because he thinks they're bad, but because the situation hasn't come up where it would be useful. (Since our discussion he may have messed around a bit with his rapid fire use.) TLO is not officially going to be using TheCore. He said he might try it after season 3 of WCS but please do not put any pressure on him about it (not that you are), he has done a tremendous amount for us already. We are building a custom version for him based on his preferences that will be publicly available for download once we finish. Switching to TheCore is a big risk for a pro gamer, especially one as good as TLO. It is impossible to know what their personal experience will be and if they don't make gains, or can't learn the layout fast enough, it could really hurt their career. I am confident that players like TLO are the ones that stand the most to gain out of TheCore, but just taking my word for it, and listening to the advantages of TheCore is sometimes not enough to warrant that kind of a risk. However, once Pro players start switching over, I believe it will have an avalanche effect. If a pro can say, wow TLO is controlling his army with 8 control groups and his flanks and harass are amazing, how does he do it? and the answer is, "TheCore helps a lot with that, it only took me 2 weeks to learn", said pro is probably looking seriously into making the switch.
@Slashie TheDarkCore!!!! ahhahahahahahaha too good

I presume the 'released' date is off by 1 month?

Hey! I registered especially to write in this thread :D Do you have any advice on how to learn the core more quickly? I have really a lot of difficulties learning it somehow. I'm not the most active player, though I got to masters with zerg on a kinda modified hotkey setup. I've played on the Standart layout for like 2-3 years now at least too.
I'm also used to spam the control groups more, like 34234323432211134223 etc... but the core somehow doesn't allow that and not being able to do that makes me kinda feel nervous and weird. I kinda press all control groups with the index finger... Is there any solution to this?
Oh yea, and will the ZRM layout be fixed? Injecting used to be on O, but it got changed to I which can't be right! And the creep spread with the camera locations is not working either... Ctrl+J is supposed to jump to location 1, but instead it creates the location... Or am I just doing it wrongly?
Thank you <3
Edit: Somebody made this img to show it properly http://i.imgur.com/8XDJbSZ.png

release date Off by 2 months actually, oops thanks for the heads up.
Learning TheCore more quickly First off, I strongly recommend reading the OP and watching all of the videos they are specifically designed to have the most important information for learning the basics of TheCore. More information can be found at TheJaKaTaK YouTube Channel in the playlists titled TheCore and TheCore Tricks. Playing the campaign or using TheStaircase are also excellent ways of using focused deliberate practice to train up your muscle memory quickly.
Issues with the Zerg layout I'll take a look at this, you may want to redownload to make sure you have the latest version as well.
EDIT: TheCore Archive is correct, that visual is older. When in doubt, always check the archive.

I don't understand that you've added the alternative to center on current selection on shift+Q. Am I supposed to use 2 hands or the file is incorrect again?
I use TRM one.

(Referring to ZRM German version) According to the Archive build Spire is on J and build Hydra Den on I. In the Hotkey file it is the other way round. As already mentioned, CameraView and CameraSave for cams 6 and 7 are also swapped.
Additionally I feel like inject and spawn creep tumor should be the other way round as well. Now spawn creep tumor (for Queen and tumor) are on O and inject is on I. This messes up with the injecting method we are used to. And rapid fire creep spread is not possible. I think this is not right at the moment...
Last but not least you should maybe consider not putting an advanced building on the rapid fire key. Right now if you keep holding I while having a lot of drones selected you could end up building a lot of spires (or hydra dens, whichever key is the correct one).
Anyway: Keep up the good work. I love TheCore!
Edit: At which tab am I supposed to look in the Archive for Zerg? Is it Zerg 0.8.2? I just noticed that there are a looooot of keys different than in the actual hotkey file.

We just got an endorsement from LiquidRet!!!!
@neko that is a bug, it should only be shift+Q for the left handed side, I'll fix that asap
@turbo putting inject on rapid fire makes base camera (aka backspace) injecting possible with TheCore, as well as faster minimap injecting. This gives the player the ability to use any inject method efficiently with TheCore. Rapid fire creep spread is a hotkey from the tumor, not from the queen. (they do not have to be the same).
Videos on this coming soon.
Looks like I was incorrect, The Archive needs another update. I'll get to it as soon as I can.

Also it would sometimes go into advanced buildings and make a hydra den. I think this might be related to the rapid fire key and possible an addition of lag, but it seems to pop up occasionally enough. Good thing I haven't lost any games because of it yet, but it seems to be doing things I don't want it to do.
I just found out this was a bug with my keyboard. Not a bug with TheCore.

awesome, because i could not figure that one out in the slightest

JaKaTaK, thank you for the response to my questions. I've seen all the videos and understood most of it, although I'm german. It said somewhere it takes up to 200 games (!) to learn it... then it's no surprise I'm slightly overwhelmed, because I've only played like maybe 15 so far. If you think putting inject on "I" suddenly, I will just believe that, although I don't understand it. The backspace inject was possible before: 1. select queens (shift+P) 2. HOLD SHIFT + O 3. Spam F9 + left click - done
And it's a bit confusing to have the "spawn tumor" on O now, but the creep tumor itself still on "I".
I've only used "backspace-method" before switching to the core, with base-cam on "space". Now there are different options as you said. Which one would you recommend? Is any one more efficient? The one explained in your video seems a bit awkward.
thanks ♥

There are Hotkey Maps on the Us Server Arcade, which will drill abilities and building hotkeys into your mind way more quick than playing, not so much fun though.
For more game scenarios there is Darglein's Stuff, he has excellent multitask and micro trainers with real game scenarios. You could practice your control groups there, as well as your production.
I recommend you demote yourself in unranked as much as you can/have the patience to, and just start from bronze. Any game will show you where you are still lacking practice, you can keep playing ladder or go to the Hotkey trainer.

That sounds great! I was thinking doing some vs AI games first, so there is no pressure. Is it allowed to leave unranked games like 20 times in a row? I don't wanna get reported for lossbotting, which is not allowed I think.
I've only found one hotkey map for Wings in EU, do you know the name maybe? Thanks for your ideas, gonna learn the core in no time

I will make that video today. We have a new way to do injects with TheCore with rapid fire. It is extremely fast and easy, not as controlled as the camera method (which I suggest personally) but it will be an option for those players that are interested.

Thanks for your ideas, gonna learn the core in no time In my experience, it's not necessary to leave a bunch of unranked games 20 times in a row. You can just try to play regular games with TheCore and you will lose your first 5-20 games anyway. It will be frustrating, but I really don't think it's necessary to start from bronze again.

Not sure if I'm stealing this idea from someone else or if this is in a version of the core that I didn't know about, but I've enjoyed having alternate key bindings in my free cams (PTR) specifically for creep spread. There's definitely a more optimal way to do this, but I have added the following keybinds as alternates on top of everything else and haven't noticed any problems yet (haven't really played much though)
Jump to 7: ctrl+m Jump to 8: ctrl+shift+m
Create 7: ctrl+k Create 8: ctrl+shift+k
This way the creep spread works like in zerg, albeit much less comfortable. It goes
Hold control (entire time), hit m to jump, click tumors, hold apostrophe and spread creep, move camera, click k, let go of ctrl Then do the same thing with holding ctrl and shift for the other path
Since these are only alternates, you can still use the free cams like you would with Terran or Protoss normally.
|
@kingneckbeard That's pretty much how its done in the zerg versions of TheCore, however we are already using alternates for the free cameras, so this will have to be a personal customization rather than an addition to the stock layout.
Zerg Layout Error
Just made the inject video:
This is how it is supposed to be! The files are messed up right now, I'll be looking to squash this bug immediately and will update everyone once it has been properly dealt with. Thanks
EDIT: The Zerg Layout did have a myriad of issues with it. Thanks for pointing that out. Everything should work properly now.
