What are you Zerg players doing if a terran is going mass tanks and is turtleing up? Wait for them to advance? Nydus? Infestors? Drops? BL? BL and Infestors would take a while, and I want to take advantage of my upgrades and supply. Also waiting for them to advance could take a while too, and Nydus is hit and miss. Any thoughts? I did see an episode I believe it was Zerg #3 where filter went up against tanks, but he caught a bunch out in the open. The ones I faced were behind all clumped together behind a barracks and a bunker next to it
If he's turtling, especially with tanks, he doesn't have map control. I know it's against the rules to take a third an even a fourth (at least for the Terran series) but doing so would allow you to gain the upper hand through some serious macro, just like filter is teaching. So what can you do once you have more bases than him? Increase you army size, build units that will destroy the tanks, don't be afraid to engage, because if you lose units, you can easily replace them.
|
Thanks for the replies, yeah, I think you're right I should expand more while putting on constant pressure. Cause what happens is I attack and replace roaches, but I've noticed when building this many drones you run out of minerals pretty fast, so then I get screwed cause I have two bases and no mining. Thanks.
|
I'd also consider getting some Mutas, if he didn't get Thors (which he can't afford on 2 bases anyways). So you can pull his Marines out of position and then fly onto the tanks and snipe them or at least make them unsiege and then run in with the Roaches. The Spire you can use for the later BL transition. Btw... Nydus is imo coinflipping. Drops can be an option, but with just 2 bases he doesn't have much ground to cover. Although drops can still fly back, when the defense is too good.

It's a kind of YABOT map which you can set to Bronze, Silver or Gold benchmarks.
I used it quite a few times yesterday and it helped a lot! I hit the 2nd CC, Factory and Starport time, but can't get to 50SCVs @10:00 and 100 food army @10:00. I know the results pop when you hit the 10minute mark but they disappear quite fast so I can't see my results.
I know I'm like 2-4 SCVs shy of 50 and I need something like 10 supply more for army. But I'm getting faster for sure and can get better reflexes. I'm pretty sure I'll be able to hit those benchmarks pretty soon! As soon as I hit these, I go on the ladder, ready to get some wins !!
Too bad the map on Europe just counts your SCVs (and it does count strangely as it starts to count with your initial six SCVs) and does not have the other benchmarks.
Hitting SCVs is the one thing I almost always achieve. Hitting EngBay timings and such is way harder ^^

A quote from video 8/9
"Im goanna scan to try and see what I can pick up. Scanning His factory is late so I am goanna build a starport and see if I can make a timing."
In my opinion that logic is so flawed. His factory timiing was at a similar time as you. Why the hell would a timing work. You just used a scan, he didn't. He has 270 minerals more worth of units (or slightlyless) when your timing hits He has defenders advantage.
The timing could probably still work, but against an equal opponent who knows what he is doing, you are goanna get owned.
Be ware of overscanning early game. Try to valuate the information. Is it really worth sacrifying a mule to see his factory timing?

I know personally I have issues with 4 gates and roach rushes, but that's mostly because I'm slow at getting my SCVs to the bunker in time to repair it. (If they get the repair off it's easy)
That being said, one thing I started doing is instead of getting the 2 tech labs and reactor at the same time I start a reactor then when it's done I get the tech lab and another reactor. (I like 2 reactors and a tech lab) Doing it this way works out with a few less marines at 10:00 for the push, but at the times where a rush might come I'm not sitting there with no unit producing structures and no matter what can make marines 2 at a time.
A good idea is to use a spotter marine just out side your bunkers.

I just uploaded three Cloud-Kingdom-maps addressing the Terran Bronze, Silver and Gold benchmarks from FilterSC's videos on Europe. You can find them by searching for FilterSC in custom games.
I'm not familiar enough with the SC2-Editor to make just one map and let you chose, which benchmarks you would like to hit.
Hope, they are helpful for some of you and please write me a pm, if there are some bugs etc.

I don't know the map on the NA-server. The map I found in Arcade on Europe just counts SCVs (or at least it did as I tested it).
If you look at my post above yours, I have made three simple maps, one each for the Bronze, Silver, and Gold benchmarks, which you can find through custom games (search for FilterSC). Maybe you like to try those? =)

Thanks again for such an Incredibly helpful post!! I recently was promoted to masters and your post was what helped me make the jump My journey started in Silver, feels great to have finally achieved Masters! Thanks Filter

Got this link from a day9 forum post. I just wanted to thank you for laying out the concepts so clearly. I've struggled to improve my game for so long and no one has explained basic mechanics like you have. It all makes sense now.

Last month, I posted on this thread saying I made it to silver. Now, just made it to gold! Thank you Filter!
Am actually still working on the silver benchmarks. After playing so many games with it, I've got a sense of when I screw up and miss timings or depots, so I'm not tabulating my results in excel etc anymore.
Also, silver/gold players seem much more difficult to play against as compared to the silver/gold players in filter's videos. But it doesn't change the fact that working on macro makes for better play!
Actually knowing my build (that silver video build) well helps me handle different situations better. I know what I have, know what I'm up against, know what I need to do (at least better than before), especially after the 10min mark! Was actually ahead in macro in a game against a plat player which was very scrappy, he droppped many times all over the place. I was ahead after a semi-base race, and stayed ahead, but lost in the end with one bad big engagement. In the past, would have never been able to respond to things while continuing to macro!
Very glad (: Now will need to make sure I can actually hit those silver benchmarks, then will move on to the gold video. (:
All the best to ebody else!

Also just noticed that this bronze-silver-gold happened within the current season! It's amazing how much improving mechanics can do. (:

gold toss here
my macro has improved so much lately, now i don't even have to pay much attention to probes&pylons it feels like i have so much more time to do other stuff in game like microing and predicting what my opponent will do next i'm rolling plats at the moment, so hopefully i get promoted by the end of the season
thanks again filter, you made me want to play again

Bronze terran here, I have been using filters silver guide and its been working pretty well. If anyone cares to watch this replay and tell me how i should have dealt with burrowed banelings better i would greatly appreciate it. My thought process at the time was that a baneling bust was coming so I delayed my push.

But it's a pretty epic fail by me if you want a laugh. But on the plus side my macro was not too bad.

Wow these videos are awesome, but like many have said earlier in this thread I am kinda lost on how to proceed with this as a Protoss player. I have been playing for less than 2 weeks now and was wondering if someone was able to fit a protoss BO into this?
I know some people say to follow certain builds already, but what benchmarks should I be hitting with those builds? Also is there is another guide like this for protoss that anybody else has used? I am kinda digging protoss right now and idk if I am willing to change races for a guide lol. Thanks in advance!
PS the community in starcraft is amazing especially for new players, I have come from competitive halo and its refreshing to see a community that actually helpsnewbies like myself instead of pushing them aside.

You could try some of Apollo's videos over at YouTube. He has general tutorials for Protoss and some more league-focussed "improve with Apollo" Protoss videos.

His Terran videos are also very good.

edited it. question is in wrong topic.

Hey everyone. I'm a silver Terran. I've been playing Terran for a month and I can now hit every benchmark in the Gold videos consistently. I still have a poor win/loss ratio, though, and I believe it is because I do not know how to deal with banelings properly. I play a lot of Zerg players who get them, and my 10:50 push is easily wiped out by just a few of them. My macro is clearly better than theirs because I have so much more food than they do, but I lose because I don't know how to clean up banelings. Help!

Some replays would be useful, but if you're just looking for some generic advice on dealing with Banelings I would suggest practicing your splitting on a marine split map and work on target firing Banelings with Siege Tanks.
Here's a diagram on engaging Zerg armies
