Currently working on perfecting the gold part, I've hit a bit of a wall since I'm facing mostly plat players, but I'm still trying to get a hang of getting a 3rd up and such. Do you use camera location hotkeys at all? Backspace to switch between bases?

I don't use the backspace method because it gets screwed up after drops etc, I use the kind of old school click on an area click the queen inject method. Stephano uses it I believe, it's much safer lategame. Camera hotkeys no, but I really should they help a lot.

I noticed your 5th zerg video isn't in the playlist for your zerg vids yet (I was refreshing the playlist all week hoping you'd release it, only to check your full video list today and see it there).

First, I would just like to say a big thank you for putting in the work to make these awesome videos. They are almost solely responsible for taking me out of gold and launching me to the top of plat where I am now going to toe to toe with diamond players. Thanks. I have a couple of questions about holding heavy pressure plays and all-ins with the build you are teaching. One that I have trouble with is any zerg 2-base all-in, especially banelings busts, but you do cover that in one of your videos so I won’t ask you to explain how to defend that one. I think it’s just a matter of reaction speed in evacuating my natural and then a bit of unit control when he comes up my ramp. The other one that really gets me is early tank pushes in TvT, particularly 1-1-1 style with banshees. I just don’t seem to have enough marines to hold off the tanks at that early stage and tanks of my own are normally a while off. How do I go about defending?

It is very hard for me to search and find a style(Ex:Bio, Bio/mech, mech...) and then stick to it for better and faster improvement. Filter posted a couple of pages back (thought i'd save you the time of finding it and copy/pasted it here ![]() "I'll probably cover that push in a video at some point, because it's extremely strong on many levels. You won't see it very often in masters though, and here's why. (it still happens from time to time though) That push takes almost 0 micro, and very little macro skill to do. The push also gains very little strength with excellent micro. With simple practice you can time it out very easily every time out. What that means is the strength of that push in gold league is going to be very similar to the strength of that push in masters. The correct way to defend against it is good decision making, and good control. That means a lot of players that don't have those areas of their game developed will struggle against it. It still kills me off from time to time, and gave me some of the roughest games when I was smurfing. You have to make a decision fast, and follow through with it. There are three ways to defend it really. #1 Make extra bunkers to slow him down and tech to siege tanks. Keeping your bunkers and marines alive is vital. He can't push into your bunkers, but at the same time you can't stop his tanks from firing on yours. Once he gets to 4 tanks you're pretty toast, so you need your own tanks started by that time. Some maps like Antiga are especially vicious for this push because he can siege your main and nat at the same time essentially. You also NEED air control for this to work, you should still be able to maintain a high ground advantage, but you have to shoot his air control out of the sky to be able to use your 1-2 tanks against his 3-4 effectively. #2 Tech to stim, marine marauder and medivacs. Wait for him to mess up his positioning and go for it. This one is probably the most simple, but also requires the best judgement and is dependent on him making the mistake. #3 Tech to stim, marine medivac and go for the base trade. He won't have anything to defend, so if you can escape unoticed you can hammer his main and force the base trade. He probably won't have an expansion up by then so if you gun down his CC/Fact/Starport (you can hit reactors, but leave his barracks) then supply depots then finally barracks you can win the game with your 2 cc's vs. his 1 or 0. This is probably the most fun, but by far the most risky. The last thing, don't worry if you lose to this push. It's strong, it happens and sometimes you just need to play against it a lot to get better. Edit: And just to clarify, once you make a decision you HAVE to stick with it. You can't try to go for a base trade, then get tanks instead. You need to follow through even if you start to get doubts. One of the best ways to play starcraft is just to do what you're doing all the way, no regrets. Lots of people will try to hold things by reacting, then changing their mind etc and it just ends up a cluster of failure. If you do the wrong stratagy, or make a bad decision but commit and do it well you'll be in great shape. How many times in the GSL does Artosis disagree with something a player does for very good reason, then compliment that player on it working out? How often does a player attempt something, backout halfway through and then lose?"

TvZ on Condemned Ridge: Awesome macro overall, better than most NA Master league players. Your build is not very good because you bank too much gas and don't use it. 2-4 hellions are useful for clearing towers and baiting a response from zerg, but otherwise hellions are a waste of minerals. I'd either get 2rax before gas or do banshees with the extra gas. You need to use more army hotkeys; you can't put your entire army on one hotkey like that. You play terran, not protoss. You never really pressure the zerg throughout the game. Drops are used to punish players who have their armies out of position, but if your opponent has his army in his base, drops don't do damage. You can't just load up 2 medivacs, send them on a 2 minute journey around the map, and hope for the best! They're almost guaranteed to be spotted by overlords anyway. You have to pressure one base with your main army while dropping somewhere else to be effective or drop while the zerg is attacking you. You got 3 bases quickly, but never really thought about a 4th. Continuing to expand is very important or you'll slowly lose your macro advantage over your opponent. After watching just that one game, I'd suggest working on army control and timing attacks. Macro is important, but if you want to be in Master league, you need to be faster. That means being able to macro while still harassing, pressuring, and dropping effectively. TvP on Condemned Same problems really. Drops aren't effective when your opponent sees them coming with observers. Cloaked ghosts aren't very good with obs in the air either. Use more than one army hotkey!

I used to be a platinum player, but after a couple seasons off, I got demoted to silver. So for grins, I started using Filter's macro-style marine play in silver and it actually picked me up a couple games. (And I'm a Protoss player!) I'm looking forward to getting back to protoss and getting back up to at least Platinum, but I gotta give him credit for knowing his stuff. Thanks Filter.

Doesnt seem like 50 probes is worth it @10 mins, if anyone has toss benchmarks that would be great! 50+ probes and 100 food @ 10 minutes with MCs 1-gate FE. Different for different builds, of course.

I'm not sure when you should actually be able to max on that or when to take a 3rd though, I seem to be maxing at about 15:30 but I think that's just because my mechanics are still at platinum level or so. Any input from a high-level Protoss would be pretty grand, and those benchmarks would be really helpful for Filter's Protoss audience. Protoss is s bit more complex than the other races when you transition, but if you go for collossi and 5 gates you can usually take your third at ~11 mins when your first col comes out.

Those are the best educational videos I've seen. I love how calm and confident you sound while executing the build. I love how easy the whole thing is and how powerful it feels in game. Thank you very much for doing this. This is like opening a door to a whole new area.
