I am platinum 1v1 and 4v4 and have my own builds down fairly well. Normally I would not do the following, but...
Last night I played a 4 player FFA and was banished to an island on lost temple. Long story short, I built up a fleet of 9 Ravens with Seeker Missile upgrade. I came across a fleet of 10+ Battle cruisers. As soon as I saw them I pressed R+R+R+R+R+R.. so send a Seeker Missle to each Crusier. As soon as I got them all out I retreated, perhaps losing 1 Raven. The Battle Crusiers however lost all but 3 and those 3 were heavily damaged.
The splash damage did wonders and I was surprised how effective. Dollar for dollar, I did FAR more damage than he did and I was able to retreat my Ravens to fight another day.
This makes me think of utelizing this strategy more for when players go heavy air in the future. Less resources and food means more Thors and tanks.
What are your thoughts?

Ravens are extraordinarily gas intensive. To be able to get enough ravens to make them rape bcs, you would need like 1200 gas sitting around, plus another how much for the seeker missile upgrade. Maybe if you were off of 3 base gas, you might be able to pull off a mass raven + marine + hellion or something, but its hard to say.

Are you asking if is better to go mass raven or mass BC?

If he had yamato he could have killed all of your ravens off since yamato cast range = 10 vs 6 for HSM. Against faster units they can just run away, I dont see mass raven as a viable strat vs mass air unless you're dominating them anyways and just doing it for the lulz.

If you're good with keeping the ravens alive, then I would say go for it. If i roll terran in a 4v4 I get at least 3 ravens for seekers. They are the best splash terran can put out unless the opponent a-moves your tank line. However, they are super gas intensive so if the opponent tries to rush instead of teching up I rarely make it to air tech since I'm busy defending the whole time.
I havent tried this in smaller teams, but I would expect it to carry over.

I figure, while expensive in gas... they are less than the cost of a BC. Yes, Yamato would have changed things had he acted quickly (perhaps their energy was down?). But even for an even trade, 10 Ravens would have teken down the 10 BC.
It surprised me to say the least.

Why was there no viking escort for the BCs?

You really need a clean up crew to accompany ravens.
The other Terran could have just laughed at your face and yamato cannoned every raven you had if he had any common sense.

EMP destroys ravens
I remember playing FFA some guy massed like 30 ravens. I EMPed them ALL and killed them all with vikings.
His response was "do you have any idea how much that cost?" lol
