Definitely check the "bronze to masters" zerg tutorial by filtersc. You practice one build you can do in all match-ups up to platinum or diamond and while doing so you get a very solid foundation for good macro that lets you branch out the builds as you like later on. Helped me a bunch, and recommended by Day9

In for example roach hydra wars in zvz where you want to spam a lot of infested terrans: press your infestor hotkey (2 for me), then press s (important!) Then hold shift and click T. Keep holding those keys and click like a madman.

The thing is that with my roach style play, i usually get my roaches out later than when the terran gets out his first hellions and i'm just having a hard time defending against this tech push, since by that time I have nothing but drones, queens and a set of lings for scouting.
This is how my build works, I am still working on perfecting it but now that I am in gold i feel as it will be less effective, since i am playing against people that use proper timings and builds you could say, anyway I drone my main and natural to 32 drones and than i immediately saturate my 2 geysers in my main with the larva that pops and make a roach warren, after that i saturate my geysers in my natural and from there i get lair first and make nothing but roaches with the speed upgrade and +1+1. By the time i reach 32 drones, the terran already had hellions on the map and i am just starting to saturate my extractors. so i don't really have much to defend it with unless i should get speedling, but i don't know the right opener for the ZvT mach up.
I open with 15 pool, 15 hatch, If anyone could point me in the right direction for ZvT I would be thankful. Well if I were you I would do 15 hatch, 16 pool as the only build you would have to worry about is proxy 2 rax which isn't very common (and you should scout for proxies anyway). Make 4 queens (you will have 4 queens by the time his hellions get to your base). Make a small wall off with 2 evo chamber placements and then you can add a roach warren later. This is better then 15 pool 15 hatch, that build you shouldn't do zvt as there is really no reason to unless you somehow knew 100% that your opponent was going proxy 2 rax. Also, I just wanted to ask you "is there any reason why you chose 15 hatch/16 pool over 15 hatch/15pool? does getting your pool at 16 just make your economy that much better? Thank you!
By doing 15H 16P your hatchery and pool pop at the exact same time. You can make 2 queens at the same time. I would recommend you to do the 4 queen opening. Make 2 queens right after the first 2. Use 2 queens to spread creep and deny hellion runbies. Also why do you use roaches every game against terran? By doing a timing all the time you're never going to get better in zvt macro. I would suggest taking 2 gas at 5:20, getting speed 1/1 and lair. Take 2 more gases when lair starts. Unless you scout mech, stick to ling/baneling infestor (or mutas.

Actually it's h14 p16 that makes the hatch and pool pop at the same time so that you can get 2 queens right away.
|
There's a lot of talk about a 10pool opening with 8-10 lings to pressure in ZvZ, not getting a queen but getting an expo first, trying to force a cancel.
Does anyone have a replay / build order / VOD of this..?

That's cause by using shift+T you're basically saying 'finish your current command, then spam IT'. Thus you need to make sure your infestors aren't moving when you use shift+T.

There is actually two methods to spam IT. You can either use the shift method as described. Make sure, before you hold shift and press your infested terran hotkey, to order a move command to a place out of range of your ennemy's units. The second method is simply to hold your infested terran hotkey (without any use of shift) and click everywhere you want an infested terran. There's an upside and a downside to this method. First of all, you dont need to hold shift, which is cool, but you are also giving an new order to one of your infestor each time you click, which can lead to less eggs popping. Let's say you have 12 infestors. They are out of range of where you want to pop ur eggs. You select your infestor, hold your infested terran hotkey and click 15 times at a certain place. Only 12 eggs will pop, one per infestor, because when you are clicking the 13th time, you are replacing an old "cast terran egg" order with a new one, thus cancelling the old order. That means that this second method is less efficient if your infestors are not already in range of the place where you want them to spam eggs.

The only good thing I can see while using shift + T is to spawn multiples IT at the same time after a move command near a CC / nexus / hatch. It's just too much of a pain to use shift in front of an army since they're constantly moving. And even with that, I never use shift. Just press the T hotkey and click everywhere.

If you want to move then use shift + T and have too much infestors, they end up like you describe, dancing and throw some random number of IT. This is exactly like playing mutas in a magix box. Except that infestors take a lot of place, so if you want to throw the ITs "cleanly" you'd need to pick only a few number of infestors (read 4-6 max).

Updating OP w/ Q and A (or at least beginning too) this weekend. Next week is finals week for me - so it will be slow

Thanks everyone for the replies. I thought maybe some other folks experienced the same problem, apparently not. Don't know what this is, I'm gonna have to do some more testing, although I tested everything I could think of.

The game behaves as if I had only pressed the infested terran key once and wasn't holding it down. It throws one i.t. and the next left clicks do nothing until I press it again.

Are you using a mac by any chance ? A friend had the same problem with forcefields only the first would come out and nothing more.

Question: I'm still on my first steps in SC2 (beating gold /plat regularly now) and since I don't have time to play too much SC2 I want to decide if I should practice WoL or HotS... It seems some old units will be quite different in HotS and there's also the new units to learn of course. On the other hand, the BETA is always changing and I don't want to spend too much time learning/adapting builds every time there's a new radical patch. If I play WoL I can just learn the standards (such as the guides in the OP) and focus on my mechanics. But I also feel like WoL may loose a lot of interest when HotS is released and I may be learning something that is almost obsolete,
I'm interested in any opinions/comments.

If you are on a gold/plat lvl then really all that matters is working on your mechanics and they are pretty much the same in WoL and HotS so I'd suggest you to play WoL for now since the metagame here is more stable and you can just focus on improving your mechanics rather than thinking about builds

These days Im making a transition from playing Protoss only into playing Random. The build that Im doing (or at least trying to) is Stephano's maxed Roaches. I have problems against Immortal Sentry allins. How can I tell the earliest if he is going to Immortal allin me and when to start building units?

If you use stephano max build you should not change anything to your game plan at all if he goes sentry immortal all-in. There's is two kind of answer to immo all in, either 1/1 ling with some roaches or +1 pure roach. You should overlord scout around 6:30 (a good way to remember to do that if you use stephano build is to overlord scout once you've send your drones into your first 2 gas since this build double gas at 6:00). If you see 4 gas, some sentries and a robo, it's immortal all-in (at least you should act as if it was untill you see him taking a third).
So to sum it up, start full unit production once you have your 4 gas and your 60 drones, as the stephano max do anyway. So you dont change your plan if you scout sentry immo all in. If you see him taking a third, you either gas, drone, take a 4rth and start infestation pit or go and try to bust him. Depending on your league, if your macro is ok you should kill him by attacking straight up (forcefields in lower leagues are not good and if you a-move against bad forcefield you rape him). Once you feel you macro is okish you can try to improve your unit control by flanking, stutter stepping against zealots and attacking, moving into him and attacking again if you have pure roach against sentry/immortal
