One other question. It occurs to me now that I don't know how this game's rankings work. I am ranked 62 in my division Bronze League. I have a bonus pool of 520. I have no idea of what any of that means. Can anyone explain/elaborate on it for me? Is a higher division rank better or worse than a lower one?
Is there a league below bronze?

Q. What is the bonus pool and how are bonus points acquired? A. The Bonus Pool is an accumulation of points that every player receives whether they're online and playing or not. They're essentially used as a means to help give a player a catch-up boost if they haven't played in a while. The pool does have a cap but it increases slowly until the end of a season. Q. How is the bonus pool used in competitive play? A. When you achieve victory against another player, you are awarded a certain number of points. The Bonus Pool points will match the number of points you received for winning. For example: If you were to have a Bonus Pool of 30 and you win a match that would normally give you 10 points, points will then be pulled from your Bonus Pool to match those 10 points and you'll be awarded 20 points for winning that game. Your bonus pool will then sit at 20.

Probably best to ignore all the league talk; if you play the game with the intent to improve, you'll do so, and which league you happen to be in will take care of itself.

Don't think about ranking too much. Honestly the system is designed for people to have bragging rights and nothing else.

I try to keep my w/l ratio as close to neutral as possible, and other than that just hope for good competition. I never intended to become a tournament player in the diamond league. I just think the game is a hell of a lot of fun

Your second question was: Is a higher division rank better than a lower one? Of course it is, assuming higher = better. Why would a better division rank not be better (lol) than a worse one? And, if you're talking about the actual numbers (1-100), what the hell do you think? Is 1st place better than 100th place? Again, you can find this information everywhere. Or you could just look at your ladder in-game and it'd be pretty obvious. 1) 2 people telling you not to worry about your league/points does not make this a "discussion of the validity of rankings, and the importance to players." 2) Sure maybe they should have moved it, but since it's here, it's a bad thread. 3) I'm not being a troll, I'm trying to keep the forums uncluttered. Noob questions are fine, but you shouldn't make a thread for each question you have. 1. Group several questions in one thread 2. Post in someone else's relevant thread 3. Blog 4. Ask IRC 5. post in several of the Q/A threads 6. Search Face it. This thread sucks. http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=17883

Aye, there were easier and quieter ways to find out, but he's done no harm by posting this topic; even if he doesn't know yet where to get the information he needs, his task isn't to keep silent while the grown-ups talk.

Also, you can check the bottom of Bronze, to see no one has more than about a dozen losses with 0 wins. Which means if you go something like 0-50, you are being dropped from Bronze. People in Bronze are the lowest on the ladder, and being on the ladder requires to be able to win at least some games sometimes. Otherwise, logically, you should return to the Practice League. (nothing shameful about it, by the way; relax and practice more) p.s. Obviously the thread is useful, since it clarifies something which from the responses not many people knew about. It just belongs in the SC2 General section, instead of Strategy.

Aye, there were easier and quieter ways to find out, but he's done no harm by posting this topic; even if he doesn't know yet where to get the information he needs, his task isn't to keep silent while the grown-ups talk. He has done harm: 1. When I'm looking at the "strategy section" overview, this takes up 1 of 5 spots. Never mind that it's a bad thread, it's not even about strategy. 2. Instead of conceding that this is wrong, he goes and calls me a troll. Even if I were wrong, it wouldn't be considered trolling. http://www.teamliquid.net/blogs/viewblog.php?topic_id=130403 If it were a mod, and not another user who just came in here, said it was a bad thread, and closed it, would you consider that wrong too? I might not be a mod, I'm not claiming their privileges, but a bad thread remains a bad thread and should be closed. Who said that he wasn't allowed to talk? I just listed several better options for him to get the information next time.

There are plenty of Bronze players there, and ranks, etc. are auto-updated so you can see what level opponent you want. Everything's neatly organized. You see what he did right here? He didn't make a new thread called "Looking for Bronze Practice Partners."

If I've spoken in error, then you'll have my apologies, but I've been on TL for only a week; already the condescension makes me sore, without ever being the subject of it.

It seems to me that if you had to visit the strategy forum directly to find the one topic you missed out on, it isn't worth talking down at someone for asking a question in the wrong place. If I've spoken in error, then you'll have my apologies, but I've been on TL for only a week; already the condescension makes me sore, without ever being the subject of it. I asked why this was even a thread because threads like this usually get closed within 10 minutes. I guess mods take breaks on weekends too. If you found this first post condescending, then I am sorry, but I don't really see it changing, if you know what I mean. I don't speak from the perspective of a person who has visited TL for a while. I speak from the perspective of a person looking for good threads in the strategy section. So I am not bashing on him for being new. Yes, I apologize for making this into some sort of argument, as that too was really not my point. TL, I included, is very welcoming of new users. That doesn't mean, however, that you (and I mean him, not you) can come in here and do whatever you want. I realize that I became condescending in the second post, but that's because his reply was simply terrible and offensive. First of all, he doesn't admit that he's wrong, and assumes that he has the right to do whatever he wishes. His points, 1) not true 2) he expects mods to work with him, and since they don't, it's not his fault? 3) He comes back and calls me a troll. You see what I'm getting at here? You make a mistake, learn from it, no problem. But you can't come in here, make a mistake, not admit it, and then continue to think as if everything should go your way. Look at these three threads, this is how it usually goes: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=149857 http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=150262 http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=149190 Is there any harm done there? Not at all! Simple and easy: thread gets closed and the new user is pointed in the right direction. Next time, the new user will learn to use search/blog, and it's all cool. To address the strategy section comment, not as a rebuttal, but simply to touch on the point: I wasn't looking for a thread, I was just browsing, and this thread simply wasn't right. Shouldn't I be allowed to say, "hey, this shouldn't be here :\" ? To conclude I'd like to restate that TL is a welcoming community. It just doesn't mean that you can do whatever you want. Admit from your mistakes, learn from them, and you can contribute all you want, to everyone's benefit.
