Replay Analyses continue every Friday. October 1 will be the next. 7:00 PM PST
This thread is a teaching resources for Terrans. I will watch your replay and commentate on it in the form of a video lesson via livestream. I think the absolute best way to give advice is "in real time" - point out the mistakes / opportunities for improvements at EXACTLY the time where it can happen. If you're confused as to why you lost (or how you managed to win a super sloppy game with room to improve) and would like my insight on which parts of your game you need to most improve upon, go ahead and post your replay in the thread!
I am a ~1700 point diamond player and have watched replays of all skill levels. Due to time constraints, I will only take games from Diamond ranked players.
Guidelines:
Your need to be a TERRAN player.
Diamond Rank only.
One replay per post.
Strictly 1v1 replays.
First come first serve. I'll be doing the replays in order posted.
I'll do an individual youtube video response to each replay and post it attached to your replay.
Reviewing your OWN Replays:
Most players lose because of macro. If I were to watch your replay, I'd immediately hone in on one of three things with your submitted replay:
Your build order is subpar. Try starting with 10 supply, 12 barracks, 13 refinery, 15 orbital command.
You're not building SCVs constantly. You're not expanding fast enough.
Your buildings are idle. They're not building units.
Watch your own replay and if this isn't the main reason for your loss and your loss falls into the "didn't scout / prepare a good countermixarmy / micro / bad attack planning / etc" I'll commentate on that. I've just found that 95% of the time, it's because of as simple a reason as one of those listed above. As a rough guide of how many SCVs you should have at certain game times assuming CONSTANT production of SCVs and starting construction of a command centers at certain times (the green shade) I've attached an image.
Posting your Replay: Please keep your replay in this format when you make your post!
First thing in your post: Upload your replay to http://www.gamereplays.org/starcraft2/replays.php?game=33 - you'll have to register on the website first. After you've uploaded your replay, copy the EMBED CODE link and post it in your post. Doing this SHOULD list the matchup in a nice picture form.
List that you're Diamond League and how many points you have.
Give a brief overview of your strategy vs his strategy (i.e. "MMM v 4-Gate", "1/1/1 v Mass Muta")
Give a sentence or two about what YOU think you did wrong.
Example Format:
90ish ranked platinum.
This replay is a 9 min terran vs protoss match. I started out with a somewhat normal M/M push-- not perfect by any means-- and ran into his massive zealot (with added stalkers and sentries) army. They had charge and raped my marine/marauder army.
I can think of 2 reasons why I lost, one being that at a few points in the game I had a bigger army than him and should have attacked much earlier than I did; and the second being that my micro was absolutely horrid in the main battle. My macro probably wasn't the best, too... and build orders.
Resources:
Demo of easy starting build order vs all races - 3 barracks marauder/marine push. requirement: 30 APM. Recommended for any player with a "bad" build order as a place to start or anybody considering switching to Terran.
You can see all the replays reviewed on my youtube channel at:
Wow. Thats really nice of you. I started playin RTS with Starcraft2, so I was sent to bronze league. Atm I´m trying to get used to the macro-orientated technical stuff but I´m quite sure I will ask for help when it comes to strategical problems.
I hope you´ll have plenty of fun doin these casts and this offer will still be existing in a couple of weeks.
I would like to post a replay. I don't know this upload site.. but all I get when I try to upload a replay is a white screen. Any ideas on what to do? Maybe it's just the site that's having troubles atm.
- List your league (Diamond, Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze) and Rank. diamond rank 25 - i think i got outplayed? lmao i went for standart build i saw fe proceed to bunker him, he destroyed it a lil bit after, went for hellion harrass, got some drones n lings banshees after, forgot about cloak and after that it all went downhill.
Hi, im Diamond currently 176 rating rank 26, My game is a TvT on Lost Temple, replay shows it as a 2v2 or something but its just bugged, i am RadioMars in it and my opponent is JMARTIN.
I was attempting to do a 10 rax reaper into marauder and tank early push to either win right out or to contain and that was about as far as i was thinking as i don't have much experience with TvT and am still trying to figure things out beyond this opening. In this game i was generally trying to contain him to 2 bases while taking the gold inbetween our bases and then hopefully overpower him with stuff once he attempted to break out or does break out.
I think i could have been more aggressive with my opening particularly i could have picked at him with my starting reaper and definitely could have attacked better with my push, which i think was my main mistake as i think i could have won by pulling some of his forces back from the ramp with my reapers attacking his workers and then pushing up the ramp with siege. And then after i contained i think i mainly lost cause my macro slipped hard as i didn't really know what to do.
What id like to know is if my assumptions are correct and if my build looks viable, what could i potentially do/work on as the game progresses beyond my contain in this type of situation.
This is so awesome! I saw you commentate on 2 replays this afternoon but had to go to work after, too bad o'course, almost made me call in sick ;0 I think I can learn a lot from this by just watching you commentate on replays from others.
Is there any place that we can review them on demand? Im not really in the same time zone as you. I'm not a very common Livestream visitor yet so maybe I'm just missing things there.
If someone could hint me that'd be awesome.
p.s. Trump already became my new favourite livestreamer, this makes it even better haha
Hey Trump! I really appreciate you making this thread. I'm pretty new to Starcraft 2, only got my beta key 2 weeks ago (and its already ending =\) but i feel like I am learning pretty quickly. Currently I'm Rank 1 Gold and I feel like my game needs some improvement. This replay is a win, but I feel like it is sloppy and could use a LOT of work.
I decided to go 9rax reapers and scout him early and hopefully get him in a paranoid/defensive mind state, then transition into the typical rines tanks and vikings and push and contain. He opened with banshees and continued to produce them and mass rines. I felt like I could have finished him off faster than I did so any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Hi Trump, i've to register, it's been too long since i read this forum.
I just want to thank you man, it's really nice, i think i'm a fan now. I really enjoyed your stream, nice and soft, never rage, always calm even with some smooth music. Much more enjoyable than those speed kid full of redbull. :p I don't know how you manage to be so cool with that game really. Keep it up, i'll stay tune for sure.
Indeed very true, I'm no classical music fan or anything like that, but your comments and music, makes me relax and learn after a day of hard work Thumbs up!
This is a really good idea, and also very nice of you ^^ .... I wish we'd get similar offers for Z & P (from some1 willing to do the same as u are doing since u specifically marked down u'd do this for T).
Rank : On and Off, around 25 usually, lower if I don't play for a day or two. Main problem : Let too many units idle for WAY too long. (iirc, haven't re-watched it)
My reaction here was to add more raxxes vs a 4gate + twilight protoss (i usually go the techlab + reactor rax with ghosts and transition into siege / air later). I won the early battles with ghost marine but im not sure what i did wrong in the transition
Fucked up badly with emps vs templars around midgame, i did hit e but i think i had something else selected, was weird
This is super cool. Will you still be doing this when the game officially releases? I'm a protoss player as of now, but I want to eventually switch to random, and having this here will be immensely helpful.

My plan is going to be putting them up individually so that each one can be reviewed on demand.
Still new to livestream-ish so hopefully I get it right the first time around. Think it can work though.
Gonna be starting in ~1 hour, probably can cover a couuuppple more replays than the ones posted so far.
I just got rocked by a Z in an very long very macro oriented very epic (by gold standards i guess) game. Its pretty long, and in your OP you said you might not cover it if its too long, but its worth a shot =D
i wanted to go mech so i did the standard open of 1/1/1, but when i scouted i saw he had roaches, which is where i got thrown off. I ended up turtling and trying to build up an adequate mech force, but every time I moved out he tracked me down and attacked, which was well played on his part. I also had trouble expanding as he kept tunneling in my base. Eventually it boiled down him destroying my main, me defending the rest of his forces at my nat, killing his forces and then doing a desperation charge. Any tips on what I did wrong would be too awesome.
TvP on Scrap Station...I am the Terran the replay info lies to you...its a 1v1 :D and...I got owned...it was pretty 1 sided, and when i watched it right afterwards, it was really demoralizing....
currently Diamond League Rank 20 at the time of this game...i was rank 58? in Diamond...i've changed my TvP style alot...but what did I do wrong here? I think I just messed up micro...:/ and also, he had a MUCH larger army and food count than me....was it my lack of harvesters?
thank you so much for this btw :D
ps...how do you make the link like that? 0_0
EDIT: there's no forum embed part for my replay for some reason...when i click on other people's replay links in this thread i see the forum embed thing, but not in mine...weird 0_0
EDITx2: Ok, so I just took clicked on the previous person's replay, copied their forum code, and replaced the numbers with those of my replay in the url...hope it works ^^
1on1 LostTemple, TvT. Bronze, please comment if posible why i lost. I was very close to win, but he killed first my base.. I know that i have to learn much about this game, but the enemy was at same skill level i think, on which point the game goes on his site and he overpowered me? Drops in here
TvT Was in gold when i played this but got moved to plat after it. Looking for some insight on the problems unknown to me. The obvious problems being macro and scv building
TvP, Diamond rank 74, Desert Oasis, after stalkers blinking into my base and doing so much damage I gave up because I wouldn't be able to come back from such a set back.
TvT I'm Odriew, Unranked, opponent is a platinum friend.
I probably should have gone after my opponent after I repelled the first attack, and I forgot to tech up units, then I got roflestomped by battlecruisers because I didn't pump out vikings fast enough. Oh, also totally lost control of resources towards the end.. tl;dr - I'm new at this RTS thing. [url=http://www.gamereplays.org/starcraft2/replays.php?game=33&show=details&id=126770#/replay_overview]

Currently Platinum Division, Though, I feel my skill level is Gold.
I have been trying out a delayed reaper attack that goes into viking/tank with some marine/marauders but not in huge mass. Though, I had to adjust to get a hero banshee.
I think I should have built 3-4 more barracks with the amount of money that I was getting.
I didn't scout very well, especially when I had all the money in the world.I really need to get my macro in check. After watching this replay, I felt I ran into the battle blind on more then one occasion.
I think I was probably a little low on harvesters.
Its the closest I have come to an epic game, so it is longer then the quick ones you have asked for. Feel free to fast forward as needed.

EDIT: (since I can't start a thread until I have like 90 posts and I dont feel like spamming any more lol)
I have this strat that seems to work really really well. I'm like 60 someting diamond in this leauge. I get very fast vikings and literally go kill zerg. 2 vikings kill queens like instantly, then you just kill every ol you see because at that time generally there is no anti-air besides the queen. And I mean vikings destroy queens like nobodys buisness. Check the replay. http://www.mediafire.com/?jlztztwyijr
Awww, why couldn't I have seen this earlier? I just uninstalled SC2 because I was getting the black minimap bug in replays, and I think it may have deleted all of my older replays. Save a spot for me on here, this is exactly what I've been looking for! Hurry up an reinstall faster SC2! I've got replays to upload!
Thanks man for the tips. haha i loved the are you listening to me comment! so funny. I took your advice and spent a hour in the build order tester. Refined a couple of builds. I'm also taking the create SCVs and expand more comments to heart. All your tips were greatly appreciated!
Also, never knew how much the cancelation fee was :x I thought it was funny in the second vid your like, this isn't 1/1/1, when i threw down that racks to throw the enemy off since his scout was right there, then canceled it for the fact. Those comments afterwards were hysterical :D
I actually won against this opponent, following your strategy vs Zerg. Before watching your streams, I had a lot of trouble with Zerg opponents, I was very delighted. I was hoping if you would help me clean up my sloppiness if possible please, but if you would rather watch a replay that had more trouble, I understand.
Just wanted to give you some positive feedback, these replay commentaries are one of the best resources I have seen. I'm a big fan of day9 but between the format (shorter individual videos = easier to keep up with) and the fact that you're basically just doing terran advice, makes these more useful for me. Thanks and I hope you keep doing these in the future!
This is great, I've been trying to help a friend get better but I don't really know T play and he refuses to switch to protoss. Here is a replay of him He hasn't done placement match since patch 13 (been trying to get better before he attempts them) But I would say he is around silver-gold. In this game I told him what I was going to do and we played it out. I think he went 3 rax into starport with tech lab for banshees.
I'm a random player, but here is a TvZ match where i really sucked.
The League's Silver, rank 15ish.
I watched the replay again this morning and I think i wasn't agressive enough and turtled up for too long. This is mainly because i did not care to take control of the XN tower and thus was playing very very blind. I think i could have moved out around the 15min mark.

I'm a Gold league player (Silver before they changed it). This game is typical for me, although I got crushed more handidly than usual. I'm having trouble knowing when to expand and knowing how aggressive I should be. Usually if I don't end the game in my mid-game push or if I can't pull off a good harass, I usually fall apart and lose the game. Any beginner tips for macroing beyond your first base and mid-game push are appreciated.
edit: I'm currently rank 12. My strategy was 1/1/1, pushing with marines, a couple of tanks and a raven, followed by banchee harass.
Ok, I tried going 1/1/1 build. Earlier in a 2v2, I saw how awesoem the raven's Auto-turrets were, so I wanted to try that harass, which you saw. I did win the match, but I want you critique it because I feel that, though I played well, I could have done better. Also, it does help that my oppponent suuucked.
I'm plat 17, 9/4. I feel that upper Plat is challenging, while mid to low plat is easier. Also, this is my first time using 1/1/1 in an actual match other then 2v2 and custom games, so I'm a bit inexperienced with the build. I know I made minor mistakes such as the occasional supply block and that retarded SCV on my CC in the beginning.
Anyways, make me feel better about my playing, ^.^!
Qualifications: Diamond League Rank ~1-3 in a tough league, former Platinum 2100. Current streamer / self-commentator on games. Calm professor attitude (though occasionally I get very excited while watching a replay).
Give me 10 minutes to get 3 more points and I will qualify for this.
edit: took longer than I expected because b.net disconnected me and gave me a loss, but done. + Show Spoiler +
Thanks a lot for the comments, they've been very helpful. 1 Question though. In terms of the orbital command, you were saying it's like 4 scvs. Could you explain what you mean? Because I've always wondered whether to use comsats or mules first against certain races. Thanks again for the comments on my replay.
You pretty much always want to use a mule first IMO, unless it's Terran and you scouted him last and he has a wall and you don't know what he's doing behind it.

When I say an orbital command is like 4 SCVs, I mean that if you use the Mule constantly, it'll constantly be up every minute, which means it's like 4 SCVs.
League: Diamond, 350 rating with a 60% win rate. Before the patch I was in Platinum, 1500 rating with a 60% win rate. Basically I'm having difficulty breaking into upper level Diamond where people have 800 ratings (2000+ before the patch) and 70% win rates.
Strategy Overview: Defensive mech until three bases, at which point I get ghosts and then push out. The game didn't get that far, as my defenses were broken as I was getting my third up. I use Thor drop for harassment.
My Comments:
Lost the Thor after the drop. That was just sloppy control.
My expansion feels late (I was starved for gas and could only support one factory before I got it up). I should have cut some marines or salvaged the bunker so I could get the expansion up earlier.
I didn't throw down the point defense drone until midway through the first battle. Having another raven would have been a huge help as well.
In general my mechanics just feel poor compared to my opponent. He steadily took the lead on workers and expansions throughout the game.
Some Questions
What can I do to improve my mechanics?
What unit composition do you usually go against blinking stalkers and collosi? I think I just needed another raven and a few more tanks, but I'm not 100% sure.

There's a big difference between a top 3 Diamond that is 320 and a top 3 Diamond that is 800+. Were you a 2000+ Platinum before the patch? Most people I know who had that ranking are now 600-800 Diamond. From what I can tell, 300-400 Diamond translates roughly to 1400-1600 Platinum.
Hey Trump, I bet you're just now realizing that people would actually take advantage of this, huh, haha?
Anyways, even though I'm not the best Terran player out there (Plat 11 atm), if you ever need another commentator, I'd be more than happy to help you out. Just toss me a PM and we can get this show on the road.

pffft. This is nothing. (so far :p) Will def. let ya know if I think I'll need more commentators though.
Anyways, I'll be covering a lot of replays Saturday afternoon live ~3 PM if anyone would like to watch live and/or comment/question during the analysis.
Ive been avoiding this thread since I dont play terran, but I had nothing to do so Iwatched a VOD anyway. This is really great, major kudos to you for doing this, very cool, GW.
Thanks for all your work Trump. Watching you play and criticize others' games are helping me out. I actually was only able to see one game of yours tonight, and I realized that you went with the early second refinery and it seems like that you have it down as if it's second nature to you already... I hope to clean up my sloppiness >.>..and more scvs argh.
omg this is so sexy thanks for doing this. I'm a diamond zerg with little terran experience and I made it into diamond on eu server going 5-0 today after watching your 3 rax opening.
Great work you are doing Tromp! I am silver league and just by watching a couple of vidz of yours and reading I won many of my last couple of matches. Really great, thx. I would upload one, but in the one I was busted was really short, but I will load u sg asap. THX!
TvT Blistering Sands silver league Victory about 30 mins
This is a silver league match and I did lots of errors. We are both noobs. The reason of my victory was because of the enemys poor choice of units and bad macro. He made marine+tank+air I made thors in the end. I wil try to post a better quality loss later.
Nevertheless if you fancy I would enjoy your insight. Thx a lot!

Thx a lot!
Hey Trump, i was soo looking forward to see what you would tell on the replay of the game i posted but it seems like there was a missap with the URL you posted for my game so that it would point to another game on scrap station between Stallgeese and Shadowfax. However i found back the video from my game in your archive (http://www.livestream.com/trumpsc/video?clipId=pla_518debaa-ef98-48d2-a837-3c89836ca8c3). That's not a big deal, thanks a lot for doing this for evereybody, it's really usefull

Don't know if I'm breaking the rules by posting another match . Anyway, I moved up to rank 27 platinum league since my last post, still got problems with macroing, do a lot of mistakes. In this game my strategy was to do a 1/1/1 build as usual and try to be better at scouting, building scv's, expanding and adjusting to what my opponent is doing.
Diamond league. I really thought I was going to win this TvT. I actually outmacroed him for awhile, but I feel like transitioning into BCs cost me. I was under the impression that BC + Viking > Viking. Hm.
thx for the review. I actually was Letalor, sry for forgetting about this. And I love the music in some of your streams. I guess some romantic music but I would be interested in what are those actually. GL & HF
I think this is a very good idea, I've been watching some of your commentary on these replays and I think your suggestions and advice are very helpful. A protoss pro and a zerg pro should do something similar for those of us who play the other races.
I was a Bronze league player until recently. This was my first game in Silver. I felt like I was behind and getting crushed all game long. I was sure I was misplaced in the league. I was only rank 7 Bronze when I got promoted. But when I checked the scores at the end it was really close.
This was one of my first times playing on Kulas Ravine. I thought the expansion behind the destructible rocks was the natural, so decided to 1 base because it was hard to reach. After rewatching the rep, I realize the natural was actually right in front of me, not behind the rocks. >.< Also, I didn't know there was a second entrance. I was completely taken by surprise by the Protoss going through the backdoor.
I know my macro is bad. I'll work on that. But I noticed my opponent was just as bad at macro.
I went Ghost-Marine-Marauder. I don't know any build orders, I just kind of do whatever seems right.
Hey, my name in Svizcy, watching your stream alot. I am in Silver league, ranked 20. Anyways, i decided to post my last game i just played. The map was Desert Oasis and matchup was Terran vs Zerg. I would really appreciate if you can give me any macro and micro advices and tips if you do the reviev of this replay. I went mech style and managed to pull out a lucky win out of this game. My biggest problem besside low apm is timing on expansion. I also dont know how many workers should i have like at the very end of the game?
I have a request, could you upload a few Patch 13 replays of your own games for additional reference? I think that would be really helpful, and I'm having problems finding replays to watch now that anything pre-patch 13 will cause a crash.
Okee lets give it a try... I'm currently a rank 1 platinum player... being there for ever stupid blizzard isn't letting me into diamond. But i still have some trouble with zerg, especially when there are muta's into play. They just tear me appart. Due to the reset i don't have that many replays but here is one on lost temple.
So basically at the beginning of this game i was going for marauders and helions. Then with my helions i see that there is a hydra den going up so i switch to siege tanks, with marines which are basically my aa but just to be sure i decide to throw down an armory and pump out a thor. And then he comes in slaps me arround. I try to push out i get slaped in the face by hydra and muta.
So please help me with this match and vs zerg in general. Ty
Why I post, because I tried your Marine+Ghost build against Protoss. I won with it a couple of matches. But this time the Protoss player used Phoenixes to float and kill my precious ghosts. Of course I am a silver player so you will find many mistakes the reason I post this here because I havent seen this Protoss strategy played yet.
This is my second replay here so feel free to ignore it, maybe you could comment on it PM or cover it in one of your next podcasts.
Thx and keep up the good work! L
ps. I have trouble against fast exp ling+muta zerg also, so maybe you could cover it as well somewhere...
I am practicing my 1:1:1 vs zerg, I seem to do well in the early game, good harass and stopping expansions. After my opponent gets a handful of muta/lings, I try try try to counter with marines/medivacs/vikings/thor. I thought I played a good game, but was hoping maybe you could pin point the exact mistakes. The game unfortunately ends when he gets roaches and everything I had goes to waste.

Hey Trump, Gotta say I love your streams and music.
***I am ranked 43 in the Silver league*** I hope to be on your stream when you review the game***
I just did a 1v1 game TvP, I went with a basic M&M build without the medivacs, since it was protoss I went with marauders, marines, and helions for zealot control. I was in the process of tech switching to siege tanks with ghosts as emp support, but the game did not last that long.
Strengths > Strong initial build order > Kept APM up pretty well for silver > Scouted early
Weaknesses > Mid-game scouting was weak > Did not control towers like I should have been doing > No early aggression > Lacked air power vs. void-rays I would have been dead
Ghost Mech with 2-3 Ravens vs Mass Blink Stalkers + Immortals
Hi, I'm relatively new to Terran so I still do a lot of mistakes. I hope you can help me to improve.
In this game I was ahead in macro but i totally failed at micro / unit control / positioning and didn't really know how to react to blink stalkers. I was playing too passive and was sitting in my base all game long instead moving into the middle of the map or taking the watch towers. I didn't scout enough, if I had i could have harassed his expansions to keep him contained. In the mid game I had too many minerals and I didn't really know how to spend them so I just made a bunch of hellions which I intended to harass with but when I first planned to move out I ran directly into his army and lost all of them (watch towers would have helped there...). Later I forgot about them. I could have positioned my tanks a lot better but I don't know if it would have helped that much against blink. I also should have killed the rocks between my first and the gold expansion to be able to defend better.
Ok I know this is not the forum code link, but there is no forum code link offered when I upload this replay. For some reason it shows 4 people being in this game (me twice and 1 other) but really there are only two. I hate to break the guidelines but this is the replay that I really want looked at ><.
It is Noobert (me) vs. NoMercyToU, a TvZ on scrap station
Diamond rank
Hellion harass into vikings (1/1/1) vs. Mass Muta
Unable to see anything in his base but a spawning pool and speedlings I become convinced that he is planning to baneling bust me, taking advantage of the wide ramp. I produced to waste a great deal of time and money to prevent this bust which never comes. The rest of the game follows the pattern of my AA is killed by ground, my anti-ground is killed by air.
Thank you for providing this service for me, and others.
My take aways : 1. I did not catch how much unspent energy i had on CCs, i'll try to watch this out in the future,
2. Avoid pushing blindly (another bad habit i have to throw off). Good way to spend CC's energy
3. Workers building is an all time problem of mine, whenever the game hits the third minutes mark and there are 'stuff to do', i always forget about those. Gotta find some kind of mnemonic trick for this.
4. Go into 2-3 factories instead of two starports (maybe keep one starport for vikings scouting) to like commit to mech play (which is as we all know awasome in this matchup anyway).
I'll thank you but pass however on the 3 rax M&M build, cause that's just not my thing (and hey i value fun above efficiency ), and because Marines and Tanks are awesome
And btw i'm not a Terran player i'm a Random player
Again thank for taking the time to do this. Cheers,
Alright, I'm gonna have a TvZ analysis marathon tonight (Thursday - 8:00 PM PST)
I'll cover these five replays. One silver, two platinum, two diamond. Going to go in order from silver -> diamond and we can see how the terran players and zerg players all "improve"
so if you'd like to take a look at TvZ play, I'll be building on my explanation of TvZ across all the replays. I won't be breaking these into separate videos but I will note the breaks of where each replay "starts".

Kind of a double cheese situation on Blistering Sand. The toss double gateways proxied me while I was reaper rushing him. I had a really bad start and lost my first reaper while I was evacuating my base. I ended up winning this game due to toss being overconfident and one hero reaper. I thought it was a very strange replay and entertaining though.
Edit: the replay should be Blistering sand (84), i am not very good at this QQ
Not sure what's up but I feel I'm missing out on something here. This is my main issue as I play all races and terran is beginning to get more fun. I was hoping someone could give me some good advice on my tactics. I'm lacking on scouting I know that much... been trying to work on it.
I lost to a good friend of mine last night, it was tvz and he was really good in macro:
I think the problem with my game here is that I didn't for for hellions and didn't went queuing with my barracks and factorys. Also, didn't get the reactor for double pumping hellions.
Anyway, I think you can help me out in improving some general overview of my game play.
Both of us can be in Diamond (well, I'm actually in diamond right now)
Just sharing... just got placed into bronze league cause of two disconnects (forgot to enable firewall allowance). People are super aggressive here, just lost two or three to proxy zealot rush and the sort. Man i thought im getting better, bronze league christ sake....
Hey, 1 quick question: I cant seem to watch the video where you have revieved my play. When i click on video on demand some of videos are colored gray and i cant click on them. Most of videos i can watch normaly but there are few i cant...any idea what could be the problem?
I am really confused as to where the video is where my game has been responded to. I tried to find it in the video library but, after several attempts and watching a painful number of droid adds I thought I'd just ask. Trump can you link me directly to the correct video?
I think that Livestream might have took a crap on him....because i remember that your video and mine were done in the same timeframe. I think our videos has been lost in the oblivion.

I'll be redoing those lost in the void
looks like I have to be better w/housecleaning - lesson learned (alas! my precious tvz speech is gone too)
(I didn't know he uploaded it as well until after I uploaded it)
Pretty long game. I was at the top left, he was at the top right. He turtled. Hard. I took every expansion on Kulas ravine (including his gold expo). I macro'd like a beast. He didn't even take his natural expansion. Somehow, he was a plat player, I was in silver at the time.....
Was interesting to see how poor of a choice Marines are against a late-game Protoss.
Note - I was kinda drunk at the time, and I decided ahead of time that I was going to try for mass marines (hence the 3 reactor raxes in the mid game).
The videos that got lost in the void -- Would you like a more recent replay with minor adjustments to my play based on yours and others suggestions? (doing things over...is never fun) I just thought it would be better then you going:
"blah blah blah -- better macro -- didn't scan a drop *sigh"

I'll just redo them. It'll be better because I'll have a heads up as to what's up
I did pretty bad in trying to macro, but unbelievable how my bio ball beats 3 colossus, and when he tries to turtle a drop a nuke on him. Not my best game, but funny since I was off my game that round. Its has a funny ending.
Description : Short game around 12mins, I'll be making Marine Marauder Tank and Ghost. While scouting I was feeling something was wrong he didnt have enought units, and then i thought i was getting voidray proxyed I do end up winning the game easily can you tell me what i could do better thanks.

This replay is a 9 min terran (me) vs protoss match.
Some input would be awesome!
Thanks (err, and sorry I used a different replay site, I read the instructions after I posted >.<)
is there any way to download these streams? I loved the videos on TvT and TvP, the "Episodes" that can be downloaded. If these VOD about TvZ were available to dl... i think thats a good idea, if u have some spare time.
Question I've been getting is when I'll be getting to these replays:
The answer is-- June 8th and beyond
Why?
June 7th is when the beta ends in terms of playing...but that won't be the end. I'll be just reviewing these replays to fill in some of the void of no beta.
So by all means, keep piling on replays you think are good and I'll be talking about them post-beta-end to give you something to think about during the time of no beta.
I probably can't be overwhelmed given how long the period of no beta is so really, take a good look at what replays you really want reviewed and just post 'em up.
Also, I've done a much better job of organizing the replays now so that they're all in nice folders and labeled on my livestream.
I basicly just maurader rush with a bunker, he gets a quick robo and 2gates. ~10 min game I think i focus to much on my attack and should be paying more attention to my base =/
I was playing against my team member in a friendly tournament. I was going Mech (Hellion-Tanks-Thors) against him. Most of the time he usually goes baneling bust against me so i made a thick wallin, and basicly didnt see his muta coming at me. My thought would be to make more turrets, I think thats what lost me that game.
Epic (read long) Platinum TvT match on Scrap Station where I think both players had a good game. I had a dominating start but my 3rd got pinned by siege tanks and I couldn't break it the entire game. Looking for strategies on how to get back in the game once the opponents siege tanks were in position.
I also later discovered why my max army was so small when my 5 thor break attempt failed.(i had 100+ SCVs).
I am gold/platinum player but I really don't feel good enough so I am searching constantly for tips and advices on how to improve my game. In this particular one I won without much problems but I still need some feedback on how to improve my gamestyle
Hi trump, I´m a gold player (now plat) and as MMM goes quite well, I´m now trying a mech build (111) But I´m having troubles against toss when he goed mass phoenix. I´ve uploaded 2 replays, you decide which is best to commentate.
I think I could have won on LT, but I made a gigantic misclick when I was sieging up at the front of his base. lost temple:
this a cool thing you doing i have to say. but i have also found watchingprofesional games on utube helps alot. you juts need to be able to absorbe and use the info they give you. gl hf
Hi there, Here are two of my silver league replays. I do not want to overwhelm you, feel free to ignore either of them. And thanx a lot.
Mass Marine Marauder vs Colossus. My first usual push is terminated by the Colossus. Thereafter I outmacro him but also fail to switch units. I loose the epic final battle. I thought maybe mass were enough. It wasnt.
Epic 44 min TvT. It demonstrates that being a pro means lots of mindpower which I lacked here. I had to shift my attention among my base which was abused by banshees and my attack front. I did not accomplish this really well resulting in many unfortnate losses. There is a part where we destroy each others base. After that he does more expansions than I do, though I am in a winning position. He suprises me w a couple of Thors resulting in defeat for my part. Too bad.
If its still possible for you to watch replays during the break: I'm a mid-Plat (9 at the time of this replay) T player. I'm having a lot of trouble with TvP lately. Going bio, I just can't seem to find an army composition or tactic that works. In this replay I attack with a comparable army to him, I'm able to quickly EMP everything, but then my army just melts before I can kill any substantial part of his, its not even close. After losing a battle like that, the game is lost (and I don't really try for the rest of the replay). I've tried messing around with the unit ratio a lot, but nothing seems to work. I just want to know if there is something that I should be doing better or differently to beat Toss armies. I know my macro is pretty poor, but I think I'm missing more than just that.
Well, i cant seem to watch replays now that the beta is offline. SC2 just crashes back to OS if i try to load replay in offline mode. Anyone else experiencing this?

It is Noobert (me) vs. NoMercyToU, a TvZ on scrap station
Diamond rank
Hellion harass into vikings (1/1/1) vs. Mass Muta
Unable to see anything in his base but a spawning pool and speedlings I become convinced that he is planning to baneling bust me, taking advantage of the wide ramp. I produced to waste a great deal of time and money to prevent this bust which never comes. The rest of the game follows the pattern of my AA is killed by ground, my anti-ground is killed by air.
Thank you for providing this service for me, and others.
I won this game -- but I'd like to know where i can improve. I need guidance on what mechanics i can improve on.
These replays are all pre-patch 15, so they all still load. I'll be re-doing these 5 (as they never got on the air) on Friday, June 11 @ 7 PM PST / 10 PM EST (as competing with Day[9] for that timeslot would be a disaster! )
Should be between 1-2 hours.
The patch 15 replays don't seem to work atm but I'm sure I'll get that sc2manager if it comes down to that.
Thanks Trump. Now i understand my main mistakes. By the way i was in platinum, because of 5-0 placement matches. Ranking system put me in diamond. Then i lost some of matches and ended in platinum. Thanks again

So basically at the beginning of this game i was going for marauders and helions. Then with my helions i see that there is a hydra den going up so i switch to siege tanks, with marines which are basically my aa but just to be sure i decide to throw down an armory and pump out a thor. And then he comes in slaps me arround. I try to push out i get slaped in the face by hydra and muta.
So please help me with this match and vs zerg in general. Ty

This replay is a 9 min terran (me) vs protoss match.
Some input would be awesome!
Thanks (err, and sorry I used a different replay site, I read the instructions after I posted >.<)
Hey I would actually like to do this too, but for StarCraft 1 so I'm not completely stealing your idea. I'll PM you about this, and see if you're okay with it! I'm also putting it on Youtube.
Thanks for the advices I usually go for the banshees earlier but I recently changed to more of an infantry kind of play without banshee herass. In the posted game I just changed my mind somewhere. But I will remember the bunker and scv advices
Whoops, somehow the last batch of replays I did I skipped over the entirity of page 6.
My next replay analysis will cover all of these (and the links will be edited into this post when I put them up). Not sure when it'll be, I'll edit this post w/when I'll cast these
Kind of a double cheese situation on Blistering Sand.

About to start. Going to cover these replays today (and I think that covers all the replays in the thread) and thus I'll end with one of my own. Trump[T] v RoxkisDIMAGA[Z] and commentate on my own play (since I have to still make sure I can play when sc2 comes back up right?)

Too bad.
Hmm, video still being 'processed'

In this replay I attack with a comparable army to him, I'm able to quickly EMP everything, but then my army just melts before I can kill any substantial part of his, its not even close. After losing a battle like that, the game is lost (and I don't really try for the rest of the replay). I've tried messing around with the unit ratio a lot, but nothing seems to work. I just want to know if there is something that I should be doing better or differently to beat Toss armies. I know my macro is pretty poor, but I think I'm missing more than just that.

Damn. I wish I wasn't working when you casted that. I was laughing so hard while watching that.
Trump If your macro is this good, you can't really lose. It's nearly impossible. Like, uh, it seems like he has 19 barracks on this, uh, tab, hahaha, they all have reactors on them hahaha.
LOL. I loved it. And I proved you wrong.

Ok, this is absurd. Ok, maybe..... I don't know what to say, I'm really sad that this guy lost 12 base to 2. I'm just really, really sad.
A lot of the flaws you showed in my play have been cleared up since that game. I still have a problem remembering upgrades however.....
I actually never realised I had such a bad unit compo against his army. I was so focused on building up and tankpushig him because he usually tends to go for a ground heavy army. The void rays did surprise me there.
I'll try the bio ball next time although I had my but kucked a few times because of his colossi, maybe I need to attack/harass him way earlier.

tnx for the review Trump!
You kept having a lot of idle Scvs as well. Press CTRL F1 to select all of the idle workers.
SC2 replay site isn't allowing my uploaded replay. It spits out a load of PHP errors.
Races: T (me) vs P
Strategies: T = I tried to do mixed Marauders and Marines with Ghosts P = I think he did what is known as fast void rays, which I had scouted and tried to counter with more marines.
Things I know I did wrong: Not buildings SCVs fast enough Not microing the EMP blasts well. Not getting starports faster and not getting vikings right away (I think).
With the return of Starcraft2 I am Back in business!
And for the rest of you, hopefully you've played a lot of games since the beta's back! And Trump is back too, here to look at your replays. Whoo!
Note that most of the replay sites currently don't work (7/11) because new patches cause replays to be parsed differently. So for now, use something like www.mediafire.com
I was wondering if I could just get a quick bit of advice Trump? I'm mid Plat atm, pushing towards Diamond pretty consistently. In every matchup I use a variation of 1/1/1 with siege expand (+Ghosts for toss, fast hellions for Zerg, faster Valks for Terran) as I love the way that I can decide the outcome of the game by my tank micro. (/placement). If I effectively win with my 3/4 siege tank push, well, I win. But if I get repulsed (or if I don't push for whatever reason) I almost always lose. I just don't know what to transition into. Nothing seems to work consistently or if it does it's because my opponent fucks up. Once I know what I'm supposed to be doing I can prolly improve myself for a while longer, but right now I have no idea what I should be doing. Thors? More tanks? Bio blob? Battlecruisers? (I even tried that last one). Could you give me a basic outline of a solid lategame transition that I can use assuming the opponent isn't doing anything odd, it would be much appreciated.

the problem with your question, and the problem with 1/1/1 is that it is very very dependent on what the opponent does. The only correct answer to what you should transition to is whatever counters your opponent.
If you have 1 of each structure, SOMETHING you build counters what the opponent is doing, which is why you have to do it.
But that's a cop-out answer (even though it's the right one). One answer could be "Just go marines, tanks, and ravens because it can't lose to anything"
which is theoretically correct because if you have a marine/tank/raven army technically all your bases are covered. anti-air w/marines, anti-ground w/tanks, defense w/ravens. And if opponent goes heavy air, you go vikings.
So easy answer is: "Go marine/tank/raven, keep producing those units, it's hard to counter, and is the basis of the 1/1/1" Hard answer is: "Go whatever counters your opponent"
Haha, thanks. That was the answer I was looking for, I probably didn't word my question very well. I know I transition into whatever counters what he has, but I was lacking just the standard core of what to build should I have no intel/in other occasions.
Another question, when should I stop making Ravens? I like to get a dropship first to do some harass, but against non-terran how many do I get? 3ish? They are bloody gas expensive which is the problem already with 1/1/1.
1-2 ravens sounds good if you tend to play passively (on one base) 3-4 ravens+ on more than one base
and if you like harassing with ravens, then maybe 3 ravens on one base, more on more than one base. It's so stylistic. Of course the more ravens you build the less tanks you'll have. A tradeoff. And also depends on how aggressive you are on expanding.
1/1/1 is like the hardest build of all time to explain because it's simply purely fluidic. You need excellent scouting to pull it off. The cost of 1/1/1 is less power than say mass siege tanks / marines, but so much more versatility because you get ravens and you get banshees against certain armies that banshees are very good against (zealot/immortal for example, or mass roach)
The fluidity is why I like it, even if it is more difficult than MmM ball + attack move Options are fun, as is the ability to harass in 10 different ways :D Thanks for the response of course

Hey Trump, I just found this thread and started watching today, just wanted to say great job and I really appreciate it. Living in China it's really hard for me to get ahold of games to watch so thanks loads.
Also quick question: at what point are you gonna say to all people posting gold level or below games: "I don't need to watch your game, your mistake is not making enough SCVs or not spending all your money, end of story." =p
Seriously though, it was the same story in BW; pretty much anybody who came to me for advice on their game, the answer was always the same: make more probes and spend all your money. If you can just do that you'll beat like 80-90% of people. It's only when you get to the top level that the advice people need to improve their game becomes any more complicated or interesting than that.

It's true that many of the replays are like that.
I have a specific video response video ready now: BUILD SCVs which I will POUNCE on people
If I notice a trend of a lot of gold/below games not building SCVs / spending money as the main reason of loss I'll update the front page with a "before you submit your replay watch this build scvs instructional video and see if your game falls into this category" and I'll probably need to make a spending money thing too. :p

I was mediocre Gold before Phase 2, this was last placement that placed me in Bronze. I am now silver, using the basic Trump build pretty much every time.
Strats: I went 3 rax with ghosts He went gateway units with colossus
I should have moved out at 50 supply and could have probably crushed him but I hesitated and pushed after he got a colossus out. Then after my attack my macro slipped horribly.
__________________________________________
Here's a very quick game if other players aren't uploading ~8 min game time.
I did end up winning this game but he came close to breaking me at times and I felt like he could have done alot better. My strat is to open with a 1/1/1 build into ghostmech. I do this pretty smoothly and early game is not a problem, but as soon as the game reaches mid/lategame my play degenerates into me rolling my face on the keyboard. I should probably have added more unit producing structures later in the game aswell.
I was wondering if you could tell me how to improve my unit composition, positioning and if I should be more aggresive or not. (Harass, slowpush, etc.) Also my macro falters later on.
He harrased a little bit and then build mass tanks and thors. I had the eco. advantage but i guess i built the wrong units. Tried to counter with mass marauders, but i guess my barracks were doin nothing for too long.
I tried a 1/1/1. He went first to phoenixes and then he mixed up almost everything .. zealot, stalker, phoenixes, ht's .. and so on.
i know i did some things wrong. like: - lost my raven (tried to harrass) - missmicroed sometimes - ghosts to late - to late missile turrets
but anyways much more went wrong. i didnt expect such a pressure. maybe because i didnt scout good enough. dunno. so, i hope you can give me some tipps
Second one from me, posting because I think there aren't too many for Friday's replay session.
T vs P
Strategy: Marauder heavy plus ghost for beginning... then I had zero ideas even though i scouted a robotics bay.
Things I did wrong: I wasn't great about scvs, but then again he wasn't either. I had three times his income rate at the end, but still lost because of my terrible, terrible army.
No midgame/endgame. Never transitioned to something worthwhile.
I was aware that I was getting too into the micro even in the moment, it is hard to break out of that.
I am Silver and Battle.net said it was an even match up
ARGH: I just tried to load my Patch 16 replay I had previously posted and I get a blank screen. Hopefully it will work for Trump :/
EDIT: For Patch 16 replays, like my other void rush one, do these instructions if you find a blank screen:
Perfi wrote: Rename or move Base16036 from the Versions directory of SC2, then drag and drop the replay on SC2Switcher.exe (from the Support directory). That should help, worked for me - before I did that replays would load up, but appear as a black screen with nothing but some ambient sound.

Things I know I did wrong: I needed to apply more pressure when I got the thors out. I should have not been trying this off two bases for soo long. Mid-end game unit composition wasn't breathtaking either. Macro is the weakest part of my game. I know I should have had like 4 bases by the games end but I'm not sure about when/how I should execute another expansion.
Initial plan was to go bio ball, but I managed to scout out his baneling nest and swapped to a mech build favoring hellions and thors, as i was expecting a muta/ling composition. I was mildly bad about continuing to build scv's in the early game, but went into godawful mode once i took my natural. I should've been expanding for the entire end-game, but i was worried about my immobility, so just built a bunch of upgrades and thors, until i walked across with about 10 of 'em.
Zerg losses twice as many units (22k to 11k), but I'm mined out because I can't leave my base without getting baseraped. This wasn't a turtle strat, I just wasn't able to move out and zerg built nothing but mutalisks.
Main question: How can mech T safely move out or expand when zerg just spams muta?
TvP Custom Match - Was practicing against my friend scince im horrible facing protoss ~40 mins :p
Tried to Bio/Emp then transitioned into tanks and banshees but he got me in the end with void rays. He turtled into his base and looking at the replay i bet i could have ended the game way earlier if i just got my units into his main faster. and if i would have pushed more in the mid game i probably could have won too :s
These will be the replays covered on Friday. I will edit the games into this post after I review them.

Strategies: T = I tried to do mixed Marauders and Marines with Ghosts P = I think he did what is known as fast void rays, which I had scouted and tried to counter with more marines.
Things I know I did wrong: Not building SCVs fast enough Not microing the EMP blasts well. Not getting starports faster and not getting vikings right away (I think).
Best regards, Winroxx

I went for stalkers into FE, Chargelots into lots of gateways. He seemed to FE after seeing mine, and went for a typical bio ball
I know that he let his macro slip ALOT. Especially before I attack, just think a vid of someone explaining will get him to listen. He is close to quitting after waiting so long.
I am in Gold/plat he was placed in Bronze however in phase 1 he was gold/plat too
I tried a 1/1/1.

Instead of posting a replay here where i managed to understand my mistake ( i think ) i'd like to ask you a question concerning TvP if you don't mind.
I'm actually go for the awesomeness BO, da Gretorp BO of course ^^ ( rax/refinery/teck-lab/rax/ghost-ac ) where you get one marauder and mass marines and ghost. I have some difficulties in scouting well when my opponent hide his structures but that's ok, it's the game.
What i don't manage to do while in the game, is knowing when should i teck. When should i build a factory/starport. I can see that when i watch the replay, but i need a landmark ( not sure of that word, i mean get a clue, a thing that show me in game when i should make my transition. Sorry for my English ), i have to often that bad reflex to just make more rax when seeing more warpgate. And also, what should be the transition when he goes to HT. Tank ? Mass Air with ghost support ? Hmm, i guess both are viable if you don't mess up. ^^
I don't have so much difficulties against colossus where i can simply go for marauder, but storm is such a pain in the a**
Thanks for your time sir, hope you don't mind if i use your topic for getting advice. I'll probably propose some replay here, it's just that usually, my mistakes are obvious.
TvP, high silver/low gold custom game with friend/practice buddy
Working on a Barracks heavy earlier game that seems solid against most P openings (in this case, gateway opening into gate/robo with colossi). Previously did fast Ghosts into Tank/Ghost/MMM... Not really specific build, just what I did...
Things I see: - Late night, sub-optimal CC/SCV/Food management. - Micro when pushing opponents base needs work, focus priority and micro tricks? He says his micro was shoddy too, I just chose one out of many. - Late game transition, how should I transition into a stronger late game that can handle splash style play (Colossi or HT) instead of just pushing out M/M all day? Also, any tips on building new structures and remembering/performing key macro elements mid-battles? I'm alright at producing units out of structures that are already there/bound, but as far as SCV management and new construction "mid-fight", I need a lot of practice, which is probably why my minerals skyrocket during the fight.
(Late game is where the replay really breaks down, but again, was a practice game in a series of many and am focusing more on the strat/build itself than mechanics for now)
This is a TvT I managed to win, but it was thoroughly racking because I'm really bad at responding to harassment. I dislike viking wars because of this as well, so in TvT I've been trying ravens and infantry, and it managed to work out here, but I feel like I was pinned down the entire game after my initial failed attacked.
The game itself is me (gold) vs a diamond. Not sure how that works, but match making is what it is.

Gretorp BO definitely good. Don't forget that one key of the Gretorp BO is an early expansion (post-ghost-ac).
The nice thing about the gretorp-bo is that if opponent goes HT, you don't need to do anything. Use your ghosts to emp the HT. (takes micro)
Against colossus, the gretorp "army" is very weak (again, gretorp emphasizes that it's just a build order - when the opponent has colossus, you NEED vikings). I'd say go for the factory-starport when you "sense" colossus could be coming (if he has a robotics facility, that's a good time to start your factory)
Build is ghostmech. I open with 1/1/1 raven tank marine, transition into ghosts and hellions. When I try to expand he denies it with chargelots and phoenix'. After this he pulls back but I feel behind the rest of the time until he goes mass stalker/colossi which I manage to counter easily with my force, I push out, take the gold and push, but get pushed back until I eventually die.
At one point I make a command center and forget about it :p I end up sending it to the island expo which I usually dont do, but it ended up working allright. Also I feel like I overcommitted to vikings, and didnt have enough siege tanks/ghosts.

I was afraid of that answer. :D
Well, i guess i'll have to play more and more. I'll focus on the robotics also. Yeah, i guess it all come down to scout and response ( and timing...Yeah that bloody timing ^^ ).
Thanks for the answer sir. Hail to da dominion ! o/
Got 2 replays from you because the games were done right next to each other and you (yes you Trump) were in one of the game.
I lost the game against you because I think my Reaper was super unlucky to see your first push... That got me off guard and cost me scvs and a Reaper (which I could have controlled it better if I wasn't off guarded) I should have built a bunker just to be safe though.
In the second game I copied your initial build and almost lost a game there. (It went to the longer game) I wasn't quick with hand during this game and lost a lot of battle due to not scanning sooner. I think the opponent was way better than me though. Can you explain to me your metagame and thinkings behind your build against me?
O yea, I'm a Diamond top 10 Terran player. I think TvT is my weakest matchup.

Update: my stream was lagging and there was a lot of funny business with the replays (Patch 19 / 20 incompatibility, european versions, poor choices of place to host, etc). So unfortunately, most of the replays were left alone and unwatched. Those poor replays.
We're going to just count all the ones I posted in reply to as a lost cause. Given that there are only 3 days left of beta, the replay reviews will be going on hiatus for about a week and a half. When retail comes out, all of this replay business should be fixed and I'll come back then.
Thanks Trump. I was getting loosey-goosey on my builds and production falling from gold to silver. I watch a few of you videos. It made me tighten up my play a lot.
I did your basic 3 rack build in all my games and I'm a 30 apm kind of guy. Up to number one in Gold in one day. I don't always bust them and I'm still learning when to make the push based on scouting. But I am always set up well for the midgame.
Its amazing how many more units I have than the opposition most games.
League: Platinum Rank: 93 TvP Map: Steppes of War 1/1/1 ghostmech vs. 3 Gate chargelots into robo
I have been steadily learning Terran macro, however, the protoss player always seems to pull way ahead of me sometime in the midgame. I can never seem to survive the protoss midgame. I tried to build as many tanks and as much forces as I could, but I just can't seem to do anything more. I tried to build banshees to harass him and buy me some time but they ended up getting intercepted.
I want to eventually be able to turn the tables and attack him using my own midgame timing push using my tanks, ghosts and ravens to full effect. But now, it seems like I have hit a wall in terms of how far I can go with my macro and resource management...
I can win games easily sometimes when I rush the player in the early game but when it enters midgame I always lose.

So this was good advice. I've updated the front page with a notice to gold and under leagues.
*Bronze, Silver, Gold League Watch This First BEFORE Posting your Replay:
Most bronze, silver, or gold league players lose because of macro.
I think this economic potential chart is pretty interesting too, possibly even to diamond players.
By the way, if anybody finds a place where you don't have to sign up to post your replay and when transferring replays to a forum it provides a nice image-type, let me know. (Or if you're one of the owners of said replay sites and want to contact me so I pimp your site let me know, lol)
Been sitting around too long so I am actually taking replays (via email) and will just stream them live now. Probably all day. http://www.livestream.com/trumpsc
I am now taking Retail (not beta) replays. Though one problem is that I'm not really sure there's a replay site that works as an upload yet. If there is, let me know.

Hate to do this to ya trump, but that chart is obvious not interesting lol. Of course if you fast expand you will make more money faster...thats the point of it. But will you be able to stop the incoming rush?
Yes 2 bases produces more minerals than one, but DEFENDING 2 bases is not as easy when your opponent is all-ining you in the first 5 minutes and you have 400 minerals less/ less tech than he does.

So put it down at 6 minutes after you scouted the incoming cheese. His overall point is still valid, especially considering it was aimed toward the noobies; he's just trying to show that fe's can be very effective.
The point of the chart is actually mainly for my reference (and for those who watch their own replays, etc)
Barring any harassment that kills your workers, in a peaceful game, you can just look at the chart and say "Oh, at 15 minutes in the game, I should have 52 workers if I expanded at the 11 minute mark (which is rather late). I only have 30. I must macro better by building more workers."
Do you think you could post a replay of you executing the 3 rax build vs the AI so that we could download it. I would like to be able to pause and look around and also see about getting exact timings on certain pieces of it.
Was trying to do a standard 1 1 1 build and an early push but i got surprised by his air superiority.
I think that allthough i reflexively did a scan on his base I tend to not analyze what I see (the two ports) and cross it off on my mental checklist....
Trump, I've been having a lot of success lately (won 10 games in a row) and so I don't have any recent losses. If you respond before you start to stream can I post a replay and you tell me what I need to do to get to the next level? Or do I need to keep that one replay..
Trying the 3 Barracks build I have seen your advise new players to do on your channel, the problem seems to come when I need to transition into something else, to deal with air or tanks etc.
I believe my downfall to be the ability to transition and I do tend to go tunnel vision sometimes during fights and forget to manage my macro.
I think I played very solidly this game, getting early ghosts while still having a constant unit production and low money count. I think my push timing is what really killed my opponent; usually the protoss is behind his ramp, so they can forcefield you, but my scan was on perfect timing and I was able to swiftly take him out, right before he got his expansion up.
Platinum rank 30. Been having a lot of trouble with TvT lately. I have been trying to avoid the viking wars by massing up marauders but still having trouble.
Started out trying to do a 4 marine, helion push, transition into a thor build with bio support. I ended up winning but felt that if he was in anyway better I would of been crushed. questions about game, could I of expanded faster? Should I of changed unit comp, once I saw what his composition was? Whats the best build order up to the first thor?
After which I scannered him, but couldn't figure out what he was building. This is due in large part because I'm not very good at identifying buildings on sight yet. I thought a marines/tanks/Thor army would be a good all-around composition, and later on thought I should add some air support, so started on medivacs and ravens.
I also made a CC and dropped it on my natural to spike my income so I could fund armor/weapon upgrade research.
I had no idea that my opponent had put a cloaked drone over my base and was watching my every move. He used a warp nexus and steamrolled me with zealots and stalkers. I had no choice but to gg.
The biggest lesson I learned in this match was to watch out for scouts, and that I need to figure out a way to determine what I need in terms of army composition. Probably going to go with vikings for air support in the future, and maybe skip the Thors.
I know I did a lot wrong, but what specifically are the weakest points in my game? Also, if I did anything right please let me know so I can keep that while changing the other stuff.
Started out with a simple Rax > tech followed by two more barracks (one with tech, one with reactor). I pushed early but got creamed. I expanded then he came and destroyed me very easily.
I think I lost because I was out of position on the first push and he cut my army in half but I am not sure.
I hope you do not mind me uploading another replay so soon (the reason for this defeat is quite different from the last one)
Basicly I went for the 3 barracks build again, and managed to not lose my entire force to one siege tank this time, basicly after the first push I fell apart while expanding and trying to transition into air and mech.
I believe I failed to produce enough vikings to deal with his airforce.
low plat TvZ game. I was trying a 2-1-1 opening. I did well early with hitting his nat and then pushing out vikings to counter his mutas. I can't seem to win a game that goes past the 20min mark. I think i struggle with knowing when and where to expand to and what is the best use of my extra minerals(hellions or marines)?
Side note at around 11:23 the zerg player takes his muta off the map. my vikings still shoot them but i can't see me no matter how i position my screen.
ty for your help.
after watching a number of other terran replays i realize that it was my bad choice of exanding and macro that cost me the game. Trump feel free to skip this game.
TvP where i made a mistake and loss almost all my scv. managed to turtle and defend and tech. alot of minor battles where i loss lots of unit to poor microing. nid ur advice on hw i can do better
I start with my standart 111 build. I do this in nearly every matchup on every map. Then I adjust my Unit composition according to what my enemy is doing. Usually the core of the army is MMM plus around 4 siege tanks.
In this game the Protoss went for zealots stalker with immortals and collossus. I tried to counter this with adding vikings, ravens and ghosts to my army.
After seeing that the Protoss expands, i take my expansion as well.
This is pretty much the state of my game right now. My last 10 Games were exactly like that. What can i change to finally step up to Diamond?
I'm still pretty new to StarCraft II, I figured he would go for a stalker combo, and I was right, but he still just steamrolled me. I'm wondering if my unit combo was really bad against his mix? Of course my macro still needs a lot of work, but that problem I'm aware off. He had he's and wrapped around my balls the entire game, just waiting for him to squeeze the living out of me Not sure what he's rank was, but i felt like he was a lot better than me.
Diamond v Diamond (Both of us around 300 points) TvP
I open with a Rine+Marauder+Tank push but while pushing I scan his base and see a quick twilight council so I thought he was going dts, so put up turrets, prepared to expand and turtled for a little while. He tries to break my front but failed rather miserably and I go on the counter-offensive. I almost snipe his expanding nexus (probably should have focused) and then 2 storms kill my entire MnM army and he goes on to defend the push. He turtles and expands at this point, and does a storm drop on my nat. I wasn't really sure what to do at this point, because I rarely ever get into a situation where I trade blows with the enemy without one side resulting a clear victor. The main reason I lost I believe is I just got straight up out-expanded, but it also could have been my sub-par emp's at the end and overall unit control.
Was trying to do a standard 1 1 1 build and an early push but i got surprised by his air superiority.

Thanks on doing both of those Trump it helped me a lot. Especially on the 1/1/1 build which I was essentially winging. I meant to edit the top one to not have you do as I thought it would be unfair to the rest but I forgot. I won't put another one in for a bit to make up for it though .
This is a TvZ game with me going mass mech. I loss total map control and was so afraid of baneling bust as i scouted his base and saw what he was going. i despite to became very paranoid and this prolly save me from an early defeat.I went making missile turret around my base and just in time to defend myself against mutalisk which i wasn't aware of. I tried massing all kind of units like thor, tanks, hellion and there was ALOT of major battles at the back. I had only my natural expo and a expo at the corner of LT. While he had entire map control and was producing units at an insane rate.
Low level game, I think we are both at about 50 APM
I destroyed quite a few of his units but never managed to turn the game around completely, probably because of my macro.
Played Marasume before and was pretty sure he was going to tech, 1 barrack then factory and tried to get very fast expo. He pushed with hydras but i knew he was coming, managed to fight him off. From this point on I did not know what I was doing.
MMM and ghosts on my side against sentries, zealots, stalkers and high templars.
Even though I won the game I think I had some serious problems in the game. Main problem was probably my horrible macro but this is clear to me. I'm more interested in how should I scout and how to time my pushes. And of course I wan't to hear the big problems I have but didn't mention.
was roaming between high bronze low silver in phase 2
i think i get caught up too much in trying to micro and lose track of macro then when i go back have 2000 resources and no idea what i should do next. the opponent massed cannons so the tank drop did way more than it should have and i think this was my placement match vs. a bronze.
he ninja expod to the gold which i caught but i think my main problem is having a plan and doing a build. my game plan is rpetty organic (i.e. impulsive and not though about).
when i scouted him i decided to make some fast marauders with concussive shells to fend off zealots. as terran i always make tanks, then i tried to do 1-1-1 with a starport with reactor cuz i expected this protoss to try and turtle up to mass voidrays and decided then to do a tank drop when i saw he was playing so passive. from there i sniped his expos with vikings and did a fairly fast slow-push (cuz he literally had zero aggression all game) and he left after i shot down his 2 voidrays.
i need advice on how to remain on-track when youre trying to micro drops and harassment.
Is a 28 min Terran Vs Protoss. I seen that he was going mass Void rays, so then massed up on Marines and Vikings to counter. However I felt stuck the whole time, not feeling safe to try and move out. Later on in the game I seen that he had a mother Ship and a mass of Carriers with a few Stalkers and high templar, which at that point I had no idea what to make to counter. At the end of the game I knew I was done for so I just attacked, but knowing that it wouldn’t really help.
I know that my Micro and Macro is pretty poor, even more so in this game. I'm still really new to all RTS, never really played SC1, when I did it was just custom maps and only played like 3 games in Beta. But still feel free to point out(or bash on) my mistakes in both.
What I feel I could have done better is have a better unit mix to counter his forces better, not sure if a few Thors would have helped or not and should have expanded a lot sooner. Also I know that I built way too many turrets. But really, unlike most games I can see where I went wrong, but here I’m not fully sure what I should have done at the time, other then what I pointed out and the fact I needed to find a better way to expand sooner.
I am in diamond league (rank 30-ish) in which I dont belong. I think I should be placed in gold.
Any way, this is a short replay of how I rushed zerg player (who chose to early-expand) with 2 thors and some marines. Can you let me know this this build is viable against better skilled player? Also, please let me know if there's anything I could do to even improve this build?
Thanks in advance.

O_o So many replies lol, half of them are people's first posts xD. How's that "Make more workers, make more units, scout more" coming along
I'll just ask a question again if I may, as I'm sure it's faster to respond to than making a video Against a mass blink stalker build what is the right unit composition? I won't bother with the replay (as I know if I had kept my money at sub 400 rather than sub 800 off 3base I could have won it), but part of my loss came down to trying to transition out of pure mech into a marauder/tank composition. Should I just stick with primarily tanks (+ Hellions with the extra minerals) or is cutting back on the tanks to get marauders+Stim worth it. Or really cut back on the tanks to get ghosts. (Since gas is the biggest limiter)
I am now a Platin Player Rank 18 by winning my last 7 games against diamonds, platins etc... But i think i play very bad, i'm not happy with my playing, so i want to have some advice. I played Starcraft Broodwar and now i play Sc2 since 2 Days, made 18 Games. I don't know about Build orders, i just play the way it feels right(in my opinion)
This is a game on Metalopolis against a random player called Gigaschatten. What i did wrong? In my opinion my macro was horrbile, my chronoboost wasn't used efficiently.(I was in Panicmode... Cause i learned what berstlings are, never saw them till yet. Baaad guys :> Cause of Random i went a very unorthodox build, i think, 2 gate core into 4warpgate... I would have abother thought about this replay, to improove. Thanks dude!
Hi Trump. I'm glad that your still helping ppl. I posted once back in beta and now the time has come to post it again. It's a TvsZ (Platinum) matchup on desert oasis. Overall he scouted better and won mainly becasue of that, but i would like you to see this game for next reassons: 1.) comentate please on my defence vs his baneling bust 2.) Tell me what could i have done better to herras him and especially when? 3.) General question, how to expand on this map when playing zerg? This map is killing me.
Top platinum league (1 at the moment, I imagine I'd be in low-mid diamond if I played more I just don't have time)
Marines & Marauders vs Gateway units and colossi. I meant to do a 2rax expand but ended up 3rax expanding instead by accident.I think that I should have attacked near the start as he was fast teching so I could have applied pressure on early which would have been quite damaging. I should have also teched to medivacs/vikings quicker, and possibly gotten ghosts.
After I killed his gold expansion I should have also retreated back to my main not attack his base. I would have also liked to expand a lot earlier, but the constant pressure meant I was insecure about doing it.
My unit control could also be better, but I'm working on that.
10 minute TvP 3 rax vs 4gate w/ proxy pylon 30ish diamond v 1 diamond Basic 3 rax strat with added engineering bay. he pushes off a proxy pylon with mass stalkers and sentries, right before my +1 weapons finishes, he breaks my rocks and then rolls over my army which is not in perfect position but not taken by surprise(I saw him breaking rocks in time)
I missed a few scvs but i think it only shorted me like 1 or 2 marauders at the final battle, not enough that i think it would have turned the battle in my favor. normaly i drop a bunker as soon as i see 4 gate, but i cant on a map with two ramps, do i just have to suck it up and build multiple bunkers? i dont think this would work because he will just expand while i turtle on 1 base.
Me: High Diamond Oppoenent: High Plat, but with 12/2 win loss ratio.
I was so sure I was going to win this, but I didn't. I did a regular 1/1/1, I got viking advantage, I set up a strong position, I had econ advantage, but he just pushed right through my tanks using thor marauder and tanks.
After watching a number of other terran replays i realize that it was my bad choice of exanding and macro that cost me the game. Trump feel free to skip my game i posted earlier tyvm for the thread and your time.
I won this match but I posted this one because it about as good as this build gets for me and still feels so sloppy. Looking for direction on where to focus my efforts when practicing this one, or modify it to something I can learn to take myself into the harder leagues.
This is a Platinum v Platinum TvT match. I am Spirit.
In this game, I try to do a 3 Barracks push, but the timing was off. I didn't get to the enemy base until he already had sieged tanks. I pulled back and expanded. I wasn't sure how to follow up after the early game. I built a couple tanks and more marauders, but I had some trouble judging when to attack. Early in the game, I got reaper harassed. I actually scouted it with my scv, but it never clicked in my head, that it was reapers. I still held it off well enough, although that could use some improvement too.
My macro was not as sharp as I'd have liked, but I felt like it was not bad enough to have caused me to lose the game.
Can you help sharpen up my build and help me identify windows for timing pushes?
Don't skip over this because I am silver, I am fighting an opponent who is platinum and will be moved up to platinum league when Blizzard scans my profile again
Edit 2: I actually am platinum rank 2 now, so it is a completely valid match
Terran v Protoss - I started off with a typical build, 3 rax maurader/marine push at ~7 minutes. I was macroing pretty well until I slipped up during the push and stopped making SCV's for about 30-40 seconds. He was able to hold it off using force fields until he had enough units, then counter pushed with a 5 gateway build for the win.
This is a ZvsT match, placementmatch ( 50 first, complete SC newbie, started a few days ago )
I am generally afraid of mutalisks. They are very dynamic and I hate building anti air turrets and building a starport maybe necessary, however, I am horrible at micro of airplanes.
I usually do the marauder + marine push. What should I do with the mutalisks ? I don't want to just win. I want to dominate. If he was more aggressive, he would have pushed me after one of the two mutalisks harrasses
I began with the 3 Rax did a scan before my push and saw a Starport. I then transitioned to Vikings / anti air. He came and did a marauder siege drop on my back door and wiped my base. Looking for tips on what I should have done here.
honestly i was going for a early marine/marauder harass into a m/m/tank build, have no clue what he was doing...
i started off a bit slow because of a phone call at the loading screen..from there I think my failing points were lack of scouting and just a lack of general attack timing...I tried to focus on constantly producing workers but i lost a lot of that once his first attack hit me
We were even in unit/eco pretty much throughout the game... I would like to know what I could have done better, especially after his first drop. And maybe a hint or two about scouting/attack timings
Ohh this is a nice post and I have a perfect replay to put on here. I'm only silver league and I played this with a rl friend of mine who is also silver. It was TvT and I was absolutely love suggestions or tips on what I did wrong. Not just suggestions about TvT but overall on how I could step my game up. Never enough room for improvement :D. It's an hour long match btw. But anyway here it is, thanks in advance :
yo trump! It's been a while. Last time you saw me I was at gold level, but I've managed to tighten up my game a bit and now have reached diamond. I typically view TvP as my best match up, but this guy did an early stalker rush. I went ghost rine. Enjoy the results, any tips would be appreciated.
Low-ranked Silver(during phase2, I've just been practicing with friends, I apologize for a lack of rank)
Rax rax academy with a mid-game factory; marine w/ combat shield push with few marauds and 2 or 3 ghosts for an emp push and a nuke harass(Basically what you were experimenting with 2 nights ago). Toss went gate core, but panicked and built 4 more gateways. Templar archives indicated charge zeals if I read into it correctly.
I definitely saw that my push wasn't executed very properly as I lost quite a few units that I could have held on to, therefore preventing me from ending the game earlier. Obviously my base/unit macro wasn't great but I don't think it was too bad, some units idling around, resources unspent, etc.
TvZ where my late game of tanks, thor,bc,viking gt completed pwned by ultralisk, broodlords, corruptor, zerglings, hydralisk. i was wondering if something went wrong or its a bad idea to drag late game against zerg
Since I feel like I've improved a lot since this game I posted earlier (in spoiler) I uploaded a newer game. This is TvZ diamond.
I go 3 rax and manage to sort of hold off a baneling bust. I decide to go counter-attack wich i probably should not have done. I get my exp up and decide to try some banshee harass since I've only seen lings and banelings. When I've got two banshees up my exp gets torn apart by mutalisks. Watching the replay I can see myself in panic mode and freezing up, and thus failing to get rid of the mutalisks.
I'm platinum, not sure what he is since this was in the ESL go4sc2 tournament.
I'm doing a 1/1/1 play here. While he is getting hydras. I'm trying to go for a bit of hellion harass which fails, then i go for a banshee harass which fails as well. I manage to get my exp up and set up in a defensive position. The problem is moving out on the map for my third base.
I end up in panic mode because I know he's a better player, he's got map control and the entire map is covered in creep. Because I'm in panic mode my macro starts failing and i throw away a bunch of units.
I've been watching this pretty much every day. Thanks again.
I know I kinda trolled you with this one, but I figured you needed something like this in your library. My play was pretty sloppy (including minor details, like I forgot depot right after the starport ).
Wanted to try out your three rax build versus terran. Probably should have pushed a bit earlier, but because of the backdoor on blistering it worked out pretty well i think.
TVT on Scrapstation - I am gold rank 28 at the time of this upload.
1-1-1 build to banshee rush.
I go banshee/marine. Opponent goes banshee/viking/raven.
There is a point where my money gets high but this is mostly while I am trying to rebuild barracks and such, so i'm not sure if this really affected the game. I almost feel like I was 3 shots more from my banshee and I win.
I'm playing plat on Rank ~15. He was Diamond Rang 3. My Strategy was banshee herassment and then Siege + Marine.
My First Mistake was the Supply block when my Starport was rdy. My secound error was to take the Gold expo. It was to greedy. After that I got Outmakroed and outplayed by his vikings
What can I do against mass viking beside mass viking too and any genrall tipps appreciatet, too.
Both players did a variation on the 111 - he went for a fast banshee with cloak and I got an extra rax in the beginning. Defended the harass, but fell apart from that point on. I panicked when I saw him get a fairly fast expo and decided my only chance to win was to move out, got abused by high ground tanks.
Whenever I get harassed like this, I always lose focus and get supply blocked / stop pumping units. Do you have any advice on dealing with that? I realize my opponent was just all-around better but I seem to lose to this strat in general quite a lot. (TvT by far my worst matchup)
You can stop watching at about 16min in, as it was just cleanup for my opponent at that point.
Platinum level TvP I went for a pretty normal 3 rax, marine marauder mix, intending make a timing push with stim. He absolutely destroyed me by going 2 gate into a proxy stargate, and absolutely decimated me. I'm not sure there was much I could've done except scout better.
we both went Siege Tank and vikings, but he locked me up in my base. I dident see a way out of my base. its a 26 min game, i would really like if you wood comment on this. to help me find out where i did wrong.
I think i should have maybe build more siege tanks and just pushed out. or maybe gotten a few drops ships. and killed his main and exp. to make him pull back.
TvP, unortodox banshee rush, really intressting.. Wondering if it could work vs better players if you fix the small mistakes here and there (you can find more information @ http://www.gamereplays.org)
Silver league TvP. I won, but I would really like some commentary on my gameplay. I have the obvious macro issues (compounded by the fact that this was my first game on my brand new laptop after having played on a desktop), but I'd like to know what other mistakes I had and just in general get commentary from someone as knowledgeable as you are.

I was trying to do standard TVT tank viking opening or whatever.. I play random so mirror matches can be tough for me.
I really messed up this early game and got outplayed I had alot of losses early. I usually seem to lose these intial battles in tvt.
Anyway, cheers
Wait! Didnt you win this game? The initial battle, if your marine count is lower than your opponents, then back those marines up and wait for your tank. Usually when T rushes you with Hel/marines you should already have a tank.
Also, focus on your inital build. I noticed you forgot to put 2 guys on gas. And also, your second gas is kinda early you dont need the second gas until your factory is almost done.
Hey you said in your stream if anyone wanted to be a mod for you post in your thread so I was just wondering like what requirements are and stuff like that?
Unfortunately, recording didn't save.
From what I remember: scan uphill before you push. Then, don't push in unfavorable positions, for example blindly from downhill to meet storms.

As there are more replays then I can handle even at my planned 5 replays per day, I'm going to be making a couple videos about basic play / builds which should help out the gold and under league players. Most of the gold replays I end up watching are pretty much:
"Build SCVs. Build Units. Expand. Your build order needs fixing."
So I'm not taking bronze, silver, and gold replays from now on. Just imagine that I would be looking at your base and saying the above.
I'll be instead taking platinum and diamond replays still.
I plan on reviewing 5 replays each day at 5 PM PST. A nice daily break from my games.
Awesome! Watching these vods and your lessons helped my game so much! Also really like how you don't bash on players but instead compliment on the things done right.
I'm about 400-450 diamond (445 atm) and he was in plat league with a good record.
I tried to do a weird hellion marine push since the distance is close but I see 2 rax marauders so I naturally think it's a bust and react defensively. He then casually takes his backdoor expansion and I'm forced to play catchup all game. How would you have reacted in this situation? Banshees crossed my mind but I thought if I tried to get them, I'd probably be overrun by stimmed marauders before I get even one out. Coupled with a bad starting location (super easy for him to drop marauders then go straight to my main ramp). After I realized I was behind, I tried to take a hidden expo which stays up for a bit but gets scouted. Thankfully he moved his entire army over which prompted me to do a final counter attack at his main which got repelled due to the short distance of the center area.
edit: On what I think I did wrong, I have no idea lol. My starting build was wonky but I think I played decently after I scouted his 2 rax marauder. I want to say it was a build order loss due to the map & starting positions but I wanted to hear your thoughts on it.
Also, do you mind if I ask you a bunch of general questions instead of asking for replays? I think having a little Q & A with you will help out my game a lot. Thanks
I actually did win this game, but I need some help to figure the later stages out in a classic tank/viking battle.
I opened up with a marine/hellion push with some success, and ended up with the viking advantage. However, I failed hard to exploit it. It seemed like he could spam scans, and by that force me to stay out of range with my tanks. Later on he even forced me to pull my vikings back by adding thors and turrents, and at that point I actually felt like I was losing, even though I had air control and a 200/200 army.
What could/should I have done to use my viking advantage properly? Should I have translated into something else, like BC, mass Marauders or Thors?
And finally a big thanks for sharing so much with the community, we love you!
I'm in the diamond league, ranked 34 or so after this win I believe. I play random, but have been considering playing Terran. I have absolutely no idea how I managed to pull this off, and if it was just a fluke or if I should continue this play style if I decide to play Terran full time.
I scout a dual gateway at the start and realize he's zealot rushing me. I was intending to do a 3 racks stim push with marines and marauders so I try to throw up a bunker to help me fend it off. My micro is pretty sloppy, but I survive. I know I'm not too far behind at this point considering I have mules and he's been chronoboosting zealots all game.
From here I pretty much hole up. Scan him as often as I feel safe as I want to mule. I tried to counter everything he did, but I had no real clue how to win. Ended up massing BCs for the win, which I thought was pretty silly.
EDIT: After reviewing this today I just realized how long this is and if you want to skip it instead of wasting your evening I'll understand completely. 75 minute game is pretty ridiculous ^_^
I went Mass marines with stimpack and Helions, and my opponent went Mass Zerglings and Hydras. I pushed as fast as i felt comfortable doing so, because I really didn't want to go into dealing with Muta's.
Well... I won, but not outstandingly so. This was my first Diamond League game so I would extremely appreciate you critiquing my game play so I can improve and win more games.
I just recently got into diamond, so this was one of my newer games against Z. I went hellion marauder push, he went roach hydra. The game went into late game where it was Thors vs. Ultralisks. Very close game, I was wondering why I lost. It could have possibly happened because I wasted a lot of money on an unsuccessful Thor drop, I'm not sure, but the zerg player seemed to have a very methodical stable way of playing things and I was wondering how I could 1-up him. For example, how to counter hydralisks?
BTW I got into top diamond league in one night thanks to you you're awesome, and you have a very great channel. I would be rank 1 if I didn't have to leave on a trip this second, just 30 more points ;p
Rank: 2
EDIT: I just realized that the hyperimage seems to be displaying incorrectly, it's supposed to show TvZ with me as T, but I can't correct it from where I am right now, hopefully it's the right one. The name of my opponent (MechanismA) seems to be ringing a bell in my head. It is also the same map.
Just wanted to say thanks for giving me a hand, thoose hints and tips will really help me out. Thanks alot Will post later when I think I've might have improved! Cheers. - General.Snus aka PRiME on Bnet
ive been following your stream/replay analysis for quite a while now and i am finally submitting a replay myself. keep up the good work, i think it really helps people alot! thank you!
My replay is TvZ with both players being platinum level. to be honest i'm not quite sure if I belong to platinum since sc2 is my first rts ever and i am just playing since the second beta phase. but bnet put me there after 5-0 in placement (3-rax rock!)and for about 40 games now I retain platin with about 50/50 win/loss so I think it might be ok.
The TvZ: I'm playing your "patented" rax/fax/rax Marauder/Hellion opening (which I'm having great success with, btw). My opponent succesfully baneling-busts my wall (2 depots unfortunately) but I am able to hold the attack off, without suffering too much economical damage. I quickly counter-attack, thinking he played all-in and i could win it right here. I fail, he goes muta, I try to go thor (feeling somewhat helpless at this point) and as soon as I manage to set me up against muta he steamrolls me with baneling/speedling. i'm quite curious what you think about this game and how I could have won. (which I think I should have, honestly) I also want to know what you think about my expansion placement.
Been watching your stream since just before p1 beta ended, and lately (the last 2 days)its made me want to try 1v1 more instead of just 2s and 3s. Theres been some growing pains, and currently in silver despite being platinum in 2s. I tend to be a bit uncertain what to do against turtle matches against terran.
In this replay I decided on a marauder/thor build originally and made a few banshees to harass later, the problem I ran into was finding a way to break his defense with his expansion being blocked behind his base. I took more expansions myself to try and choke him eventually, but my slow marauder/thor army wasn't fast enough to keep up with his viking harassment and I ended up losing despite having a stronger army.
This is my buildorder against protoss : 10 sup, 12 rax, 13 ref(alltho I made 14 this game cus of distractions) 15 orb, at 20 or so ghost aca, and after that It's just an impuls, in other words if my first push fails im pretty much screwed as you can see in this game, I do want to note that my micro was HORRIBLE at my first push I could've easily won that battle but instead we traded armies and he got the best of it, there was alot of flaws in my game but the biggest thing that made me loose imo was that first attack, if I had microed it better the outcome of the game would have been so much different I think. Most of the times my first push works great and gives me the win but when it goes shit like this I need a backup plan.
What can I do if my first attack fails because shit happens and I need a backup plan, like "if my first push doesn't hurt him bad I'll transition 2 X" etc also I would appreciate it if you could give me suggestions to do differently in my build, generally just as much help as you can think of to give me.
Anyways I think thats all I wanted to say I've been to your stream everyday the last couple of days and Hope that I will be there when you cast my replay!
this is awesome! i've pretty much watched everything and i learned a lot. i'm not sure you'll see this post but... i've recently changed from zerg to terran... and... well to have more things to watch about terran games, can you upload some of replays that you have played? that would be like... very informative whether it's a win or a loss. i mean even if i lose, i wanna lose such that like... i did pretty well, the loss was just a dumb luck loss, or i know i was in the disadvantage, but i held on long enough kind of games...
This is a TvZ match up, where I did a 1/1/1 build and thought I was doing okay till I got killed by mutas even though I thought I was prepared for them. I am a gold level (15-20) player but I cant manage to get into the plat league, I usually play like this so any advice is appriciated since I probably should move up to the plat league soon if I just could improve a bit.

Thanks Trump, I've found the "basic suggestions" on the spoilers of the first post very useful. And to further support your stats I can tell you from my experience (new to sc multy) that although I managed to win a lot vs other new players thanks to the knowlege acquired from the commentaries, I am *constantly* making mistakes or being undecided on what to do in regard to macromanagement.
Now I'm new to the forum and I'll search for similar guides on the basics, so if you can suggest me something in particular I'll gladly read\listen to it.
HOWEVER, I didn't quite realize just how time consuming the video making process would be. I'm going to have to rethink this. So i went for bio with stim, shield, ebay upgrades i scouted his VR but dont know what to do against that build im 1st in gold opponent is in platinum

Diamond League game, currently a 400~ Diamond Player.
This is a TvP in which I go 1 1 1 into Marauders Hellion Banshee push, he attacks with void rays so I decide to base trade, I manage to expand + turret it off, and transition into marine siege tank, and get vikings when I see he has carriers, but ended up losing anyway. Any help or advice at all would be appreciated!
This is a mid diamond lvl game. I played ur Rax/Factory/rax strategy with marauders and helions, but i lost three games in a row against zerg, because the zerg builds lots of spine crawler and speedlings. I try to push before he gets his spyre, but lose to his defense. I know u play this strategy very often, so hopefully you can help me with timing things and so on ; )

So I made it to 50 Platinum using the basic 3 Rax strategy at 40 apm. I generally get stim very fast, as soon as my tech lab is up, before concussive shells.
So plat is doable, and I'm often a bit sloppy. I generally move out when stim is done. BUT you need to scout and if they are teching up, hit them early. If they expand early, again hit them and you pretty much win. If they seem to have a good army, just try to contain them to one base while you expand, don't run up their ramp or such nonsense.
And don't be afraid of turrets and bunkers if you have a bad feeling and crap scouting. I almost always build an engineering bay as I move out (only exception is really an all rax Terran). Don't lose stupidly.
The nice thing about this strat is you can win on your first push with overwhelming power or it sets you up nicely for mid game given you already have two tech labs and a reactor. You can go MMM or tank-viking whatever. Going into midgame you almost always have map control and good mobility. And your economy is great and your army is BIG.
Game between AleX (top malaysian player) and myself. Diamond level game.
I was even enough in terms of army, and probably shoudl have held this off. Or so I think. Could you let me know if the build is more or less workable, and let me know if I should have unloaded the bunkers straight away or pushed out and tried to attack his army at the xelnaga tower?
Also maybe if I should have tried to research stim/shield after the expansion was up. Thanks.

It's pretty simple: Standard opening 10 depot, 12 rax, 13 gas, 15 orbital, get one marine, 2nd depot. I get the factory as soon as I reach 100 gas(add reactor when done), then techlab on first rax (maybe cranking out another marine while waiting for factory/gas), then second rax with techlab. just pump hellions/marauders, build enough depots and push out when hellion #5 and #6 are done. you should have 2 marines and about 6-8 marauders till then. still not quite sure about that number to be honest. I usually do not research stim because it slows down the build pretty much (if you want to have it in the first fight). concussive shells may be an option though.
High Diamond play on metalopolis TvP. Doing 1-1-1 build getting a raven out to clear away observers. Put up an expand and added more barracks and my army composition later in the game turned out to be 5-6 tanks, 2-3 thors and marine marauder with ghosts for emp and a couple of vikings since my opponent liked void rays. I wonder what i could have done better since i lost the game i must have done something wrong and i cant find out why. I can only find 1 reason and that was i threw away a portion of my army after a big battle trying to take out his gold expand. Would be cool if you could check it out and share some tips! // Bobson
Hey trump, love what you are doing, been a follower of you since the beta
Plat T vs Diamond Z on steppes. 7 minute game
Banelings-- How do you deal with them. In this game i was trying to do a 1/1/1 build into mech (Hence the tech lab on rax). In the game i got distracted and missed 15 orbital, and some scvs like a dumb ass. I scout the bling nest just as i got blings pouring in my front door and dont get to wall off effectivly.
Hey trump its me amuno again now im promoted no longer in gold im 9th in newly created (week ago cca) diamond division and i have a lot of succes with this build which im doing here thats take expo fast defend it with bunker with marauders and then just kill him with bigger army of vikings-tanks it was ok i defended early attacks got air cotrol but then he switched to mass marauder and thor... im not sure what should i have done... maybe contain him with sieged tanks in his base ?or build something where i can benefit from my air superiority like banshee or BC ? thanks for your time Trump
low diamond. I go avilo fast raven he goes blink stalkers.

Played Marasume before and was pretty sure he was going to tech, 1 barrack then factory and tried to get very fast expo. He pushed with hydras but i knew he was coming, managed to fight him off. From this point on I did not know what I was doing.

Even though I won the game I think I had some serious problems in the game. Main problem was probably my horrible macro but this is clear to me. I'm more interested in how should I scout and how to time my pushes. And of course I wan't to hear the big problems I have but didn't mention.

i think i get caught up too much in trying to micro and lose track of macro then when i go back have 2000 resources and no idea what i should do next. the opponent massed cannons so the tank drop did way more than it should have and i think this was my placement match vs. a bronze.
he ninja expod to the gold which i caught but i think my main problem is having a plan and doing a build. my game plan is rpetty organic (i.e. impulsive and not though about).
when i scouted him i decided to make some fast marauders with concussive shells to fend off zealots. as terran i always make tanks, then i tried to do 1-1-1 with a starport with reactor cuz i expected this protoss to try and turtle up to mass voidrays and decided then to do a tank drop when i saw he was playing so passive. from there i sniped his expos with vikings and did a fairly fast slow-push (cuz he literally had zero aggression all game) and he left after i shot down his 2 voidrays.
i need advice on how to remain on-track when youre trying to micro drops and harassment.
Hi there, I'm a rank 30ish plat Terran using 3rax build, up against a rank 30ish Diamond protoss..
I really don't know what i did wrong here or why i lost? If you could take the time to watch this and PM me i would really really apreciate it alot.. Thank's alot!
I am rank 1-5 gold player, i think in this game i make too many tech tree buildings and dont really choose one. I build turrets blindly wasting minerals(i expect most toss to go void ray) and i chose the wrong time and place to expand to.
I went for an early hellion harass that failed as he bunkered his ramp, and my game plan was to follow through with air supremacy BCs/vikings to destroy his siege lines. I macro better than him (3 base vs 2 base) but his mass vikings snipe my BCs way to easily. Poor micro on my part for not keeping the BCs alive but other than that I think I handed the game away from mid game onwards.
How come so many posters that request replay analysis have under 5 posts, or simply made an account just to post one replay? That kind of bothers me. I had a replay from back when I was gold, but I edited it out of my post because Trump said plat/diamond only from this point on, otherwise I would've had it
and on that note, could you review my rep, Trump? TvP in Platinum on Metalopolis. I didn't bother scouting him, but I made a blind counter to void rays and it worked partially. I don't think I responded to this the right way, because he took out my main CC and then I was basically blundering and making whatever at that point. How should I have responded to this better?
ranked 5 in Platinum with a little under 400 points replay is a 24 min terran vs zerg match. I started with a 1rax 2 factory build going for helions and their flame upgrade. tried to harrass but was attacked but failed. i then pumped out siege tanks and thors and a couple helions. I ended up winning but.... I think i should have lost that game. In the first attack i just barely won the battle against his hydras roaches yet stayed with my thors siege tanks even though they were destroyed in first battle. I think i might've lost more minerals than him in that battle. If he stayed hydra roach i think i definetly would have lost. On my macro though... I had a LOT of minerals but didnt know what to do with it so i just let it stack up reaching up to over 3000. Should i have made another factory/barracks and pumped out marines/helions with that extra money just to use it? I probably should have but.... I could use work on TvZ in general. So any TvZ tips would help thanks.
Just wanted to thank you Trump, your 3 rax build took me from low level Silver into Gold in a day. I watched you trying to teach Trauma the build today and I'm going to start giving that a try tomorrow.
Anyway just wanted to say thanks, and keep up the good work, your tips and watching you and Debo play has taught me a lot about Terran, because I started as a toss player.
I'll send along a replay when I have one deserving of your advice/critique.
EDIT: Trump, I've completely changed my TvT build, so it is no longer anything like the one I wanted you to watch. So if you'd like, you can skip right over this post. Though if you could, I'd like you to review this replay and see if there's anything I could do better, or could have won earlier.
Rank 1/2 Plat player now, beating diamonds about 65% of the time. He was a diamond rank 21 or around there, hes actually in your division if I remember correctly. I won this game, by a bit at the end, though I'd like to know where I could have done a bit better incase I did do something wrong.
im an low/mid diamond player from sweden, played this game while playing in open cup#3. although I won the game i did very poor in general. and thats probably one of the reasons I wanted to show you this game, since if played good there would be no point of reviewing it? right? :D
this is how the game was played out. I went 4 rax skipping gas(still experimenting), later --> M/M/M ball. he went baneling bust opening to spire. later --> mass roach/hydra/infestor/broodlords. My decision making was poor and I went in some sort of a afk mode after a while, it would be gladly apreciated if you gave me a word of advice when it comes to late game TvZ! thanks!
Hey Trump I think I need help on TvP from you. I can't seem to win against HT in mid-late game. I tried to use Ghost but my EMP can't keep up with constant summoning of HT ready to storm my troops. If I tried to snipe HTs with MM, while succeeding their job, they get demolished by Zealots. I hope you can give me some insight!
P.S. Maybe we can do some TvT practice matches? =) Add me on Crimson.899 if you're interested.
I am not diamond but I have a question for fellow terran players. I started playing Starcraft 2 on August 1st, with no RTS experience. I have used the 3 rax build to become a gold ranked 10 and im happy with my progress. However, i am finding more and more that the build is not working as well against my opponents now. What build should I learn now? I want to continue my progress!

The 3 rax build is a solid build. There's nothing wrong with sticking to it. It's not the problem. The problem is that you need to improve other areas of your play.
There are going to be several things that always need improvement. Here's a basic list, and what you can do to improve:
Micromanagement - upgrade concussive shells , and time your attack for when the upgrade finishes. Learn to kite your marauders - they're much more effective this way. Also, make sure the marauders are infront of the marines - they're tougher, and the marines dps is actually higher for the cost, so keeping them alive longer is actually beneficial in the long run. Little things like getting a better concave during a battle, target firing key enemy units/structures, or splitting your units up into 2 groups, controlling both groups well, and moving them around independently can give you an edge that you wouldn't have otherwise. Extend this line of thinking to all of the units under your control.
Macromanagement - this is all about the execution of your build. The better you do it, the quicker your attack will come. Have you ever lost a game, and thought "crap, if that bunker finished 2 seconds later, I would have won"? What if I told you that you could execute your build better, and get the same attack 10+ seconds earlier? Wouldn't that mean you would win easily against the same opponent? Because that is actually the truth (if you're in Gold). You need to play enough that your build becomes second-nature to you, almost muscle memory. This will allow you to focus on other things.
Multitasking - this is tricky to improve. Sometimes games will push you to the brink. I lost a ZvT game of BW like that recently. Ultimately, the game can come down to who can keep track of more things. You need to be able to think of exactly what you are going to do where, and do it as quick as possible, before moving on to the next thing. It is definitely the most difficult thing about a RTS game. However, this is exactly why people play RTS games - it's a game of skill between you and someone else. You're just going to have to play more, and try to do everything as fast as possible, to give you more time to do more things.
Scouting - this is a very important part of a RTS game. Keeping your SCV in his base for an extra few seconds can allow you to see him put that roach warren down in the corner of his creep, or allow you to see that he took his 2nd gas fast, telling you that he is going for some kind of tech. Even if you see nothing against a Protoss, knowing his pylon placement can allow you to scan anywhere he could put tech buildings, letting you know exactly what he is doing, even though he's trying to trick you. Also, always be wary for hidden expansions, especially gold expansions.
Decision making - basically, play smart. Don't play dumb. By having more information from scouting, and having a solid build order down to muscle memory, solid micromangement to give you an edge in battle, and solid macromangement to give you a lot of stuff to work with, it will allow you to adapt to whatever you see. Do you see your opponent going for high templar? Add a ghost academy and get some ghosts for EMP to counter him. Do you see him putting crazy amounts of spine crawlers down at his nat? Double expand yourself, and contain him with your army. Do you see him go for Collossi? Put down a factory, then a starport, and then put the starport on the reactor for the barracks, and transition into a mainly marauder/viking/medivac army. Don't plan on killing anyone with your initial attack..... Plan on using it to cause some damage, and outright kill him if he gets to greedy, but intend on getting yourself onto a stable footing in the midgame by expanding as you push out. And, don't throw any games away. Look at the replay of my game that Trump cast..... I was low diamond/high plat equivalent in the last stretch of the beta (I let my bro play 2v2 on my account, he decided to do my 1v1 placement for me, landing me in silver ). And I probably only had 40 apm in that replay..... Yea. Dumb..... Don't do the same, or similar, and you should be fine.....
Personally, I've been opening 10 rax 10 depot 12 OC into a 1/1/1 build, with an expansion going down sometime after I've been pumping from all 3 structures for a while (depending on what I see from my scan during the building of my starport, and other scouting info I've gotten, and whether or not I abandoned the plan for an early rush/banshees against a fast expand build, which is essentially the plan anyways). I'll usually push out between 120-140 supply, mainly to expand again (double expanding if possible), and then going for a killing push when I get close to 200, or at least containing, taking more expansions, and making a lot of production facilities so I can make my army again asap. I've been doing this against all 3 races, because it is very versatile. And I have the timings down pretty well. But I can still see a lot of areas where I could improve, even simple things revolving around my build order (I typically get supply blocked when my starport is going down in the late 20 supply whenever I'm building hellions, and I'm sure it's because I have to cut my supply close to get my starport down on time, but I've seen replays of higher level players who didn't have that problem so I know it's because I'm short 40 or so minerals at that point, meaning my execution needs improvement). Bigger things like my micro (in general) always need improvement.
I stuck with that build because it suits my style of play. I like to play a reactive game, and my late-game play is generally better than my early/midgame play, so I want something that will allow me to get there. I also like to try crazy things (I've massed thors against someone going for immortals, simply to see how well/poor they would do, for instance), and it doesn't take much to adapt my opening into just about anything (try building no scvs after a 10 rax 10 depot 12 OC and building 4 more rax in total, for a 5 rax marine all-in, it's very powerful, and the early marine from the early rax is great for killing their scout, preventing them from knowing what you are doing, if you are smart about it).
However, my number 1 piece of advice for someone new to StarCraft is this: Have fun. Seriously, play to enjoy the game. Don't worry at all about trying to crack the top 8 in Diamond. Play to have fun. And, once you do get good at it, it can be pretty fun to pwn some noobs.

here's what you do when you catch it as early as you did. pull four SCVs and kill the pylon, while continuing to build the barracks, then kill the probe with a marine. don't just sit there and let everything complete.
I'll be looking at the next 10 of when-I-left-off replays of platinum/diamond players starting Friday. (And I would expect to be doing this every week consistently.)
Think I've got a solid plan of eventually uploading the ones I commentate on youtube too.
Hey Trump its RK (the druid you never remember lol)
I got a question for TvT If your opponent has air control and you have ground control, but he has enough tanks in his bases to generally stop you from attacking, what should you do? When I get into this position I try to catch up in vikings, but it never really works, or one time i managed to catch up after keeping him to two bases while I was at 4, and then he rolled me with a tank/thor push since I had too damn many vikings. Then if I can't catch up in vikings he rolls me with banshees and/or battlecruisers.
This game i did a bio build went to see if i could push out about 50-60 food saw immortals pulled back built some ghosts got my expansion and pushed out when i felt ready. My macro slips a little bit towards the end and i should have expanded again when i went to push out, a few supply blocks of course.
What i think i could work on is better at build scv's more continuously, and macro a bit better towards later game.
diamond game but i don't feel good enough to be there
Me (Striferz) vs another Terran. I went a 1/1/1 vs his 3 Rax. Once I saw he was going marauder heavy I switched up to some banshees, but then get rid of air all together and go marine/tank to deal with his viking/banshee/tank/marine/marauder mix. There was a few instances were I would of lost if he would of pushed in. I only win because he doesn't expand.
I don't think I scouted well enough. I didn't even notice that he was getting banshees or vikings. My macro I think was also terrible because it seemed he was getting outnumbering me even when I was at 3 base and he was at 2. I also got supply blocked for a longggg time at a few points.
I am a 80ish ranked Diamond and he is a mid platinum (I think).

I think you answered your own question: If he's way ahead in vikings, maybe try some thors? (as you say, if you DO get more vikings, he rolls you w/ tanks/thors, so why wouldn't that work against him?
Me (Maddcap) VS another Terran. It was a slugfest. He went Vikings and Tanks. While I went Thors and Tanks. I got contained and can't push out. He had air control.
Hey Trump, you're awesome for doing this. Love your cast. Anyways, I'm a mid Diamond (~50), this was a match against a fellow 50ish Diamond. I do a fairly crisp 3 rax timing attack and get beaten down by quick blink stalkers. I'd love your advice.
Good day, Trump. Aspiring EU player following you for hours a day, wishing for some insight in order to become even better.
Top Platinum League vs diamond player.
Going for a 3rax M/M/G opening into a quick defeat. Usually works, but this time, it did not. I assume I would have fared better if I slow microed the zealots with Marauders and added my 2 hellion with the force. Any insight would be appreciated..
Just a question, I'm not exactly too sure what the trend is, but I am seeing a lot of 3 rax builds here. Is that the strongest build against protoss right now? I'm currently looking for builds which work for me for all three matchups. I really like bio-mech against Zerg and ghost mech against Protoss, but it seems like from this thread again, that everyone seems to be going bio mostly. Against Protoss, I'm currently doing 1/1/1 opening into ghost-mech (Helions, tanks, vikings, ghost, and marines if I have leftover minerals). (I'm not too sure if it is effective yet, because I haven't done my placements yet, however I beat my low level diamond friend with it.)
As for Zerg, I have been doing Barracks, Factory, Barracks into a bio mech (marine, marauder, tank thor) combination. Going more marauder/tank heavy if there are doing roach heavy, and thor marine for the inevitable mutas.
Are these builds optimal? Or are there better builds out there?
I recently started playing the game and quickly got into gold, now i'm sitting at 400 points in platinum, I don't know if that means anything, but hey it's not bad. Now i have some succes playing the bio-ball, but there's so much more to learn.
This protos I played against wasn't very agressive since he gave me allot of time to rebuild my army and take the win after that. I'm sure my build order isn't the best neither is my macro but i'd like to some feedback on the stuff that i can't see for myself.
Thanks in advance!
PS: I've been lurking here for a week now and I finally got the courage to post here with the pro's
Hey, EU Player here, its a pretty long replay im afraid...
Ranked 10ish Platinum. Did a 1/1/1 with ghost-mech against a mass warp gate transitioned into carriers. My scouting could of been a issue, if i had seen the stargates perhaps i could of countered them with more vikings, also did not build hellions, which costed me a few tanks to zealots and i also had a few macro/micro issues where i left idle scvs which could of costed me as i ran out of gas. Thank you =)
Trump, I've got to say you've probably got the best taste in classical music of all streamers if you actually know the stuff you listen to..seriously a great playlist, what do you listen to?
This game i started up with your 1 1 1 build but somewhere i got lost and lost the game. I would appriciate your opinions and hope you can tell me ways to improve my play.
Hey Trump, I recently played a Diamond 3 Protoss (I'm currently Plat 41).
I opened up with 1/1/1 with no early timed push. Then on a game decisive battle, I pretty much got demolished.
I thought I had a counter to his build until I saw how zealot heavy he was in the battle. I also forgot to rally my production buildings to my army so I had alotta idle units in my base.
I'm still in practice league (placement now), so this match was very exciting to try. Unfortunately I am playing Terran and my opponent is playing Zerg, regardless, I would like to share my first victory with my fellow gamers. Critique my game play please. p.s He was a Diamond player
I'm a mid 60ish ranked platinum league. My opponent was a Platinum league protoss as well. I was going to open up with a 1/1/1 but as i got my barracks down, he decided to try and cannon rush me. I held it off but i was probably behind in economy. He decided to transition into a 4 gate. Around the first battle, i thought i was doing alright but when I force fielded his ramp, i wasnt sure whether to pull back or continue. I think my mistake was pulling back. Not sure but thanks if you can analyze it
Diamond Rank 4 atm (960 points, I don't think rank means too much)
Delta Quadrant, I struggle alot in TvP, especially when my enemy goes HT quick, I'm in general not sure how to beat this, I think I lost here because my macro fell apart and even though the battle was very close he could just re-warp in and end me. Would love any general thoughts about this matchup as well as where my play falters, seems like my SCV production was hurting, but my unit composition doesn't seem to be correct here either, are ghosts my best bet here? Expansion timing felt appropriate. I usually try to do a push before storm is done and win the game there but that feels very all-inish and I'd like something abit more hardy.
Hey Trump, thank you for casting my replay! I agree with everything you said (I meant to actually get vikings but was stuck in panic mode and couldn't get out of it) and the tips on scouting were helpful. Much appreciated for all the advice
Here is a TvZ. (Gold/Platinum - Can't remember exactly) Terran: 3rax, tory, port --> MM + hellions --> MM + siege Zerg: FE --> lings --> roach --> hydra --> ultra
Terran loses early pressure because of unforeseen flank by roaches with tunneling claws. How does one expect something like this?
Platinum, 90ish (I haven't played 1v1 since my placement matches, which was just a few days ago)
I went MMM. The other player went some sort of 1-1-1. I started making banshees when I saw tanks, don't know whether that was a good idea or not, considering he had vikings.
I did win this game, but I felt I played pretty sloppily. I don't think I expanded early enough. I stopped producing SCV's, and should have grouped my forces together instead of attacking from two sides for my second attack (that didn't involve medivacs). I dunno. I probably didn't have enough vision throughout the map. I just kind of let my marines and marauders sit there while I kept making more. I started out in copper league during the beta, and then stopped playing for a while. Any kind of tips will be helpful.
Plat/Diam match. I was planning for a 1/1/1 vs zerg , found out he was going fast muta , went for thors/marines/tank , everything went smooth till the end where i failed and he won at the macro war. I would like some advices on how and when to attack. Could you help me out , I really have issue when it comes to TvZ.
Platinum - Rank 8X You may have seen me in your Stream.
I win this game but I feel it's so-so-So sloppy. I'd really love advice on how to sharpen my hotkeys, reaction times, skills, basically do the thing you do X D (please). Was the way I went about countering the Protoss in the manner that you would have as well? Thanks a bunch, later.

Any way, this is a short replay of how I rushed zerg player (who chose to early-expand) with 2 thors and some marines. Can you let me know this this build is viable against better skilled player? Also, please let me know if there's anything I could do to even improve this build?
Thanks in advance.

Cheers for any help you provide.

I was so sure I was going to win this, but I didn't. I did a regular 1/1/1, I got viking advantage, I set up a strong position, I had econ advantage, but he just pushed right through my tanks using thor marauder and tanks.
I got supply capped at 200/200 too.

Terran v Protoss - I started off with a typical build, 3 rax maurader/marine push at ~7 minutes. I was macroing pretty well until I slipped up during the push and stopped making SCV's for about 30-40 seconds. He was able to hold it off using force fields until he had enough units, then counter pushed with a 5 gateway build for the win.

honestly i was going for a early marine/marauder harass into a m/m/tank build, have no clue what he was doing...
i started off a bit slow because of a phone call at the loading screen..from there I think my failing points were lack of scouting and just a lack of general attack timing...I tried to focus on constantly producing workers but i lost a lot of that once his first attack hit me
We were even in unit/eco pretty much throughout the game... I would like to know what I could have done better, especially after his first drop. And maybe a hint or two about scouting/attack timings
I used to go 1-1-1 vs P until it seems all P does is 4-gate all-in. Tanks come out too slow for that and your starport is more or less useless. Then I started using 4 rax marine FE, but that breaks to 4-gate pushes as well even with 4 bunkers (and absolutetly gets crushed by rushed Colossi)
I adopted a build I saw from Silver (Silver vs Huk on Metalopolis), which goes 2 rax marines with shield and ghosts with early pressure into more raxes vs gateways or factory starport vs colossi. It gave me some success, but at times a 4-gate push will overwhelm it because you simply don't have enough units.
Lastly, I've been trying a 3 rax build with 2 tech labs. It looks promising but I've just been getting owned.
I win about 75% of my TvT and almost never lose TvZ, but I lose to P like almost 75%. The problem with P is that at this level I'm at, they're just too unpredictable. There is no build that I find which will allow me to "not die" and survive into the mid game. P has so many options to kill me, 3gate robo, 3gate stargate, 4gate allin. And it's much harder to scout a P than it is to scout a T or Z. And even when I do scout it, it's like what can I do about it if my tech pattern doesn't really allow me to defend it (such as if I'm already 4 rax when I see a robotics bay).
In this game, I scouted a 4 gate allin so I bunkered up. I didn't scout my natural so he had a pylon there warping in units into my natural with the rocks. For some reason, I thought you can't get site unless you had an observer so I assumed he had a robotics facility and hence I kept thinking his army was much smaller than it really was.
Same map same spawn location. I learned my lesson and scouted for pylons. I scouted a 4-gate allin but not the starport. I bunkered up and still got slaughtered.
http://www.roliax.com/RoliaxViGwareMetalopolisLosstoP.SC2Replay Last game on Metalopolis. I scouted 4-gate allin again. He tried to FF my ramp but I was able to EMP and move out. I scouted robo bay so I went vikings. I didn't get enough vikings and I had too many marines.
Basically, I need help with a build that is stable and doesn't die to P allins or cheese. Then I also need a way to transition.
I tend to do well agaisnt P who play more like high level P don't do cheesy stuff or all ins and the game goes into the midgame.
I managed to defeated this guy on the previous game with the 3 Rax Build on Blistering Sands, so, when I saw him again on the load screen, I was expecting some kind of cheese.
He tried to 2 Gate rush me, I scouted it and managed to hold his attack with my wall and a Bunker, after that, assuming that he was behind on economy/army, I tried to destroy him but he was better positioned and crushed me ( I wasn´t paying attention to my army ;( ). After that he just out macro´d me, keeping me in one base and expanded.
I think that my mistakes were the lack of SCV production, no tech switch/upgrades and I lost to many units on the first big battle.
I'm a Diamond Terran ranked 40, around 500 points, whenever I get a Protoss and I am above 550 points I get crushed.
On this game I went for a standard 1/1/1 opening, saw his Twilight Council and didn't know what to expect, found out later, after his attack, it was Zealot Legs, almost lost my expansion but managed to defend it, tried to go for a counter attack and got annihilated by the Zealots.
I believe the problem was I went for siege tanks early and should have got Marauders I guess? I really don't know what could have helped me, Banshees maybe, no clue. I really need tips on what to do when a toss goes for Twilight Council.
Hey, DamiaN here, your one student who followed your 3rax strategy all the way to Diamond!. umm, i just want you to watch the replay to see if im actually even playing on some sort of diamond level or if ive just been fluking out. It's not my greatest replay, its just my latest and it was a warm up match. NORMALLY i am a lot more on point when it comes to creating scvs etc, but regardless, id like your analysis 3rax ftw:D
I actually justt have a question: Why do use ur shift key so seldomly when u're building structures? is this planed and you have followup plans for every SCV? I often see 4 or more unemployed workers if I watch you play
Rank 1 Gold at the time, Rank 73 Platinum right after that game
Here is a match where i went with a 3 rax build. The opponent thought it was a good idea to try to take my refinery as a distraction. being that this 3 rax build doesn't get the second gas until after the first push, i felt it was just a waste of his money and pushed my 3rax army earlier trying to take advantage of his economic deficit. Was this the right play and how could i have cleaned this up? Did I just win because he wasn't so good?
Rank 1 Diamond (at the time of this game anyways).
This game is nearly 30mins long on Delta Quadrant. I started out with the 3 rax build, the protoss went 4 warp gate. I started the aggression with a push around 50 supply our armies clashed at his ramp he walled off with sentries and managed to hold off my push, but not without losing a good amount. I then threw down expansions and started tech.
I have trouble knowing when to transition and I need to scout more. I ended up winning the game but I feel like I should have one it sooner and more cleanly.
Diamond Rank 22 (Fzero) against Diamond Rank 84 (MuD)
This replay is me trying to do a 1 1 1 marine hellion push into expansion, but he fast expos and puts up spine crawlers before my push gets there. I manage to survive trying to swap my tech lab to my factory and letting lings in my base by getting some banshees to his expo, but I still felt behind the whole game.
I feel like my timing is messed up on my initial push if I can't bust a fast expo. I've had this push fail in a few games and once I get tanks I usually get flanked because it took too long and the lings get to me. I try to stay aggressive (I watch your stream! lol), but I feel like I don't have the advantage I should in early/mid game vs zerg.
I'm not platinum yet but I'm gold. This is probably a quick one for you.
I was playing a platinum Protoss and he did a very fast zealot rush on me. I was doing a standard 10depot, 12 rax, 13 ref, 15 orbital command. He threw me off immediately with a super early probe which killed my scv as I was freaked out. I got out 1 marine, should have had 2 and my wall off wasn't finished. Still he came in with 2 zealots really fast and then was chronoboosting more. With my standard build will a wall off and marines be able to hold this 2 gate proxy or do I have to scout the proxy really fast and cut scv production to try and get defenses/units built.
I started out going with the 3Rax build order and when he brought in banelings I added some factories to pump out siege tanks. Where i had the most trouble was when he brought mutas into play and it took me a while (because of the econ damage) to amass marines and thors. I think my main problem (besides macro/micro as most bronze/silver players) was my slow reaction time to the muta harrass.
Any help you or anyone could give would be much appreciated
Even though the game isn't in any special circumstances, I would love it if you reviewd my play anyway. I was under pressure and really didn't know what he was doing (I should have scouted more but he built his starports near his natural.
Because I wasn't sure what he was going for (encouraged by the stream for whacky builds) I went a standard tank/viking into expand. I hadn't practice this build a lot but I thought I would give it a go. I got supply blocked a few times and my unit controll was super sloppy. However, he BC rushed and with some macro I was able to pull it off in the end.
I'm also looking for lessons and was wondering what your rates are. I think with lessons I could become a lot better. I just can't multi task as well as I'd like to when I get past 10 mins into a game. Thanks!

Mistakes: My opening seemed very good but I didn't use the Vikings well. I guess I shouldn't build them at all (maybe one or two would have been good for overlord hunting). I should have used them for scouting. Another thing that I've did wrong is that I guess I've expanded too late. My enemy was going for roaches and I did scouted it so I should have build much more marauders. The next point I guess is that I should have gotten some detecting unit so not a reactor on starport but techlab.
It's a custom game replay from me against my friend who I guess is a lot better. Anyways I've learned alot from that replay. I'd like to watch you reviewing it and pointing at my major mistakes.

This is a TvP 600 plat game that i lose. I try 8 rax, 8 gas for fast reapers, and orbital Command . Then i transition to MM and expand. He Cannons ups, so i try to contain him. I added in tanks, Vikings and Medivacs to my MM army. My micro in the large battle was kinda poor and i was 20 food less than him so my macro was weak. I also had 20 supply of units at my base when the big battle started. I think Ghost would have have helped. I got worried that he was going to void ray rush or warp in units at my base while my army was away.
TY Trump and anyone else who watches this TvP. PM me with advice pls. I have not beat a toss that get HT with storm in long time i am struggling with it alot even when i get ghost early.
He was random so I scouted early, saw zerg and decided for a 3 rax. After I scan I saw only zerglings and roaches so I thought it would be a good time to push out. Disastrous attempt. I eventually managed to switch to viking siege tank and pushed for the win...barely.
Just looking for some help on how I can do better, I got into plat with Zerg then made a switch to terran. I have been watching you for awhile, and I do know I did a lousy job with controlling scvs.
I wanted to go 3 rax push, but his drone kind of confused me in the begining, so my macro kind of sliped a bit Then when I saw him going mutas I think I didn't make something to counter it fast enough and he did a lot of economic damage with his harrass But I think the main reson I lost was when I lost my army trying to atack his expantion
Platinum level rank 1...trying to break into diamond my name is RobotFood
TvT game..opponent is mid-diamond. Both went 1-1-1 in a mirror match, and I end up winning but I feel like my late game is sloppy. I'm not bad early on, but after my first expansion my play always gets sloppy as I never know quite when/where to expand, and I tend to feel very unsafe the more expansions I have. I also reacted very late to his bit of harass on my expo, and I would have lost if he had an equal force to me. Also, penetrating his turtle was tough, and with equal armies his tanks would have blown me up. Basically, what can I do to improve my late game macro? And when should i choose to expand past my first expansion? Can I do anything to feel safer without turtling? Thank you very much for any help!
TvZ trying 5rax reaper into marauder and was able to kick the fast expo. He pushed with lings roaches and later Broodlords.
I think my mistake was that I scanned the early spire and prepared for mutas , but after the scan he cancled it. Also i lost a pretty big Battle in the middle of the fight.
TvP on Scrap Station. Platin/Dia level I wanted to go Maraudar/Ghost. He went for Stalker/Zealot/Collos.
Of course he was stronger than me but i dont really know why i had such a little army. I think my build order wasnt that good and i should went out when my first ghost was there... pls tell me what were the biggest mistakes, have much porblems in this matchup.
I went for 111 build and he did a void ray and i went mmm with tanks vs warp gate units and colossus + some phoenixes..
My mistakes was very bad tank microing and microing my bio ball away, and macroing units at all time, and ofc going for a baserace and getting raped.. would like help to know when to push earlyer, expand and micro!
I just want to say thanks for your stream and tutorials. Its helped me sharpen my game. I started out in copper in beta and am now in diamond. Don't really have any replay to post, as I pretty much always know where I went wrong. I think a real good game, I just don't always play one, haha.
If anyone says you can't be a solid diamond player in your 40s as a new rts player (age and apm!), I prove 'em wrong.
The problem I am having is that I am not sure if my transition from your 3rax build to tanks is that effective. To do this, I got another gas, but I am not sure if this is necessary. Also I want to know what else I could do to improve my play to become a diamond player.
At the time of this replay I'm a 563 level diamond player. My mechanics are quite awful (I play mostly onehanded, which I need to get rid of eventually but I lapse into when I'm anxious) but I've been able to do okay due to having decent build orders and macro. This is a TvT where I do a siege tank fast expand against a 1/1/1 build. I make a ton of mistakes but I manage to win; thanks for reviewing. Huge fan of your stream.
Hey Trump, I'd like your help with this game I played against a friend of mine, we're both mid diamond players. I went for a 3rax build and he went for 3gate robo. As soon as I saw the robo I went for a Straport (in fear of colossus). He then pushed out with an army consisting of Zealots, Stalkers, Sentries and Immortals. When he got to my ramp I had the high ground advantage but he had his observer there so he was able to forcefield my army and beat me. I know I should have killed that observer, but is there anything else I could have done better? His army was much larger than mine and it would have taken a while for me to get ghosts out. Any help would be appreciated and thanks for your time.
this is Keonru, diamond level Terran player. I posted a replay once before and thanks to you I moved up from platin to diamond since then.
This next replay is a TvP on steppes of war. It was during the ZotacCup, the first Tournament I played in. I was able to beat my first two Opponents but lost to the third.
This is the Replay of the last Game.
I was going Tanks Marines Marauder versus his Stalker Sentry Immortal. I think I could have beaten him, but my army positioning was bad.
Basically what I did was trying to do some early hellion pressure, so I did a 10 supply 12 rax (actually 11 by accident), 13 refinery, 15 oc, 15 rine, 16 depot, 16 factory, 17 refinery; something like this
Opponent went for banelings and I think my hellions sort of melted them easily and I did some damage. He then switched to burrow roaches, so I got turrets up and also a raven to clear tumors + roaches and went for hellion/tank/thor/marauder build. He later transitted to Ultras while making some expos, which I harassed / denied (I guess).
I think my biggest fault was that in the last push I didn't siege my tanks, because I thought Tanks do more damage to ultras unsieged.. (the splash wouldve been more useful though), also I got an expansion fairly late, and didn't pump enough SCVs.
Also, if you'll be examining this replay, please could you explain, if theres a reason to why he didn't go mutalisks? I mean I didn't have any decent antiair..
TvT using 1-1-1 build. I'm having no problem steamrolling people with 3 raxx and have a very high win/loss ratio with it (recently went on a 23 game win streak), but I wish to make the transition into 1-1-1 especially vs Terran. I have a lot of trouble using this build. I feel I out-macro my opponents, but my combat strategy seems to need work, I rarely win a game using 1-1-1. Expanding past my natural scares me a bit since I feel I have to thin out my army to defend them from possible banshees/medivac drops. Perhaps I just don't have the metagame knowledge to do this more effectively yet.
I noticed some blunders this game such as blocking my own tanks in for a bit after production, but until my opponent expanded to 4 bases, I feel I had better micro and shouldve been able to end it sooner.
Thank you so much in advance, it's thanks to your stream that I even have any sort of foothold in this game.
I've been doing a reaper opening lately with great success, but it seems every time I'm matched up against decent or better players, it doesn't work. I'd hope for you to comment on it and try to improve it. I've attached two examples of the opening/play.
It's pretty easy to and it goes like this:
First 75 minerals on gas. Next 150 on barracks. Then 2 SCVs - 1 mineral, 1 gas. Tech lab. Supply depot. Reaper. Speed. Reaper. Reaper.
From then it's kind of a situational feeling, but I hope you wanna do this.
Hi, I'm a Diamond level Terran player. The following replay is a ZvT of two diamond players. The map is lost temple, and I did see that the Zerg tried to do a quick expansion so I went 1-1-1, got a quick tank, and a quick medivac and did a drop on the cliff. My opponent had a roach-centric army, so there was not much he could do. However, eventually he killed of my marines with overlord sight and hydras. Meanwhile, noticing the roach-centric build my opponent was doing I started getting a bunch of marauders and Thors because of mutas. I still had some tanks. I took control of the xel'naga, and placed my tanks there. They were all near each other, which I now recognize as a mistake. A few mutas came in and were easily sniped by thor/viking, but then a large amount of overlords came in and dropped roaches and hydras right on top of my tanks. The battle left me quite crippled, but the Zerg didn't have enough forces to push in.I quickly massed marauders, got stimpack, (should have gotten infantry upgrades) and got Thors since I saw mutas. I scouted a hidden expo with my viking and sniped it with a quick marauder/stim force. Then I pushed with mainly Thor/marauder/viking for the win. I messed many times with my micro, etc, especially with lone vikings. I also got supply blocked a couple of times and my macro needs a lot of work. (I had the gold expo as well by the end). There's a lot of obvious fails I see in my game here, such as a failed thor drop, fail scv transfer because of supply depots not being lowered, forgetting to put 3 scvs on gas @ expo etc. but I'd love it if you could point out the less obvious fails. Thanks a lot man.
We're both Top 10 Diamond Players in our division.
These are both fairly common builds, I go 1/1/1. I end up losing this game at about 28 minutes. I think where I mostly messed up was not controlling my units against storm, but then again this is why I'm posting this replay to see where my major mistakes are.
I go for a similar build to CauthonLuck, basically standard 1 Tech Rax, followed by a CC, into 3 more No add-on Rax. I pump Marines and Marauders and the eventual ghosts. My opponent goes 3 Gate Robo followed by High Templars. I cannot for the life of me beat High Templars. I know my macro was poor and got supply blocked many times. However I still feel like something is missing from my gameplay. I would like to keep bio as my core army and hopefully find out how to make this build work. Where can I improve specifically regarding this replay. I did not feel safe to get a third expo. I felt that whenever I pushed, my opponent was still able to keep up with me even while he was capturing his third expo.
Yeah, I know I got outplayed. Any help is much appreciated.

Watching the replay I can see myself in panic mode and freezing up, and thus failing to get rid of the mutalisks.

we both went Siege Tank and vikings, but he locked me up in my base. I dident see a way out of my base. its a 26 min game, i would really like if you wood comment on this. to help me find out where i did wrong.
I think i should have maybe build more siege tanks and just pushed out. or maybe gotten a few drops ships. and killed his main and exp. to make him pull back.
TvP. Having a hard time with those High templars. And alot of other things. Like macro/micro. Build orders etc etc. i went MM&M i had no solid buld order.
i went marine medivac ghost, i think i must have somehow messed up in my early macro since my first timing push which should hurt my opponent failed, any ideas?
I started out using 3 racks build, scanned him found stalkers/robotics bay. I don't think i engaged his army effectively. I lost a lot of units due to his charge zealots.
I think i didn't produce enough svc's throughout the game and i didn't expand as soon as my command center was finished. I was lacking in macro most of the game i think as well.
DT harass kept me from getting a nice economy mid game. Later I had trouble dealing with his storms.
My plan was to go 3 rax and adapt depending on the protoss answer. If HT then i would go ghost and if colossus i would build vikings. I deviated fro my plan when the DTs surprised me.
What I did wrong.... hard to say. Maybe I need faster reactionspeed and a maybe cloak for my ghost to deal with the HTs.
Mid-platinum game, I'm now rank 49 Platinum, Terran vs. Terran.
I started with a 3-rax (I've got to platinum thanks to you and to the 3 rax push, I still mostly start that way) push but I see he's going for a 1/1/1 build so right after the push horribly fails (predictable) I swap to a more Viking-tanks heavy build. He starts to harass me without causing too much damage, but the game goes on a lot and the constant harass really annoyed me, so I eventually just went ahead blindly and happened to win. It's the first game I win that lasts some time and I wanted to know how I can improve apart from the obvious (my macro eventually failed, stopped making SCVs etc, really not used to handle a long game). I also know I kind of failed with my assault, as I sacrificed most of my bio to his tanks, I imagine against someone with a better economy I would've lost badly, I'm still getting used to handle siege tanks (my own and other's) and fighting them. Thanks a lot Your replay commentaries and stream's reeeeally awesome and helpful.
My opponent is a Terran who went for a 3 gate Bio Ball of only marauders, eventually made medivacs and Tank/Thor. I took advantage and pushed with a heavy Immortal lead force. A lesson to be learned for all Terran players; don't spam just one unit.
I believe I could have handled my macro better by expanding sooner and producing more workers.
I was going for a typical Mech build at first. I opened with Hellion harass but retreated when I saw Roaches. I built some barracks and started pumping out a Bio army composed of mostly Marauders with tank support because I expected further Roach pressure. I destroyed his natural expansion easily but he managed to get Mutas which decimated most of my army. I eventually got Thors out but the "magic box" trick made them near useless against his Mutalisks. I got desperate at the end which explains the unsuccessful suicide attacks on his base. The missile turrets I built weren't enough and he overran my base and I gg'd.
I think what I did wrong was overcommiting to one build and not scouting enough. I should have spotted the Spire going up and gone on the defensive instead. I also built more barracks then my production could handle and they were sometimes idle and wasted. Mutalisks have been giving me trouble because if I go Marine heavy I tend to get decimated by Banelings. My opening was slightly off. 16 Orbital instead of 15...
btw, this is a great thread Trump and thanks. Very cool of you to help out fellow Terrans.
At the time of this posting, I am ranked 90 in Diamond.
I go for a Hellion FE, and my opponent goes for a baneling bust, which i do hold off. He then transistions into Broodlords, and I hold that off with Vikings, and then counter his main, which I kill. After macroing some more units, I destroy his new main for the win.
After watching this replay, I can see that that my macro was really bad. I had thousands of minerals stocked up for a huge part of the game. Also my failure to scout the Broodlords almost cost me the game.
Started normal, quick gas for tanks and maurader pushes after scouting his roach warren. After that I get bane wiped till he out macro me in income and larva. I go into marine/thor cause of his mutas but just cant stop his army wiping without turtling in and giving him even more the win.
Any good strategy on how to counter this is appreciated
First of all thanks for taking the time to do this. Now to the game. I went for a 1-1-1 ish build with marauders and banshees. The toss player went for a colossus rush, but I got some vikings to deal with collossi. I expanded and put down bunkers. I was contained. Finally, the toss player rushed in with his troop sand got owned completely. He had pretty much no army. I charged with a good handful of MM ASAP, but once I got to the Toss base I was greeted with chargelots en masse. I definately could have done a better job microing here. Eventually the toss player got HTs and I didn't get ghosts out in time. I failed a bit because I sieged up some tanks and tanks shot my MM when chargelots charged in. Another mistake was I took the island expo on LT instead of high yield. I also accidentally made OC instead of PF on my 4th expo. Misklik. But in the beggining I had a huge income advantage because I expo'd quicker, did some drop harass and I still lost. Where did I go so wrong?
Hey Trump! Very nice of you for doing this for everyone! Props!
I have a question though; I feel that i can macro really good early and mid game, but when I get a bigger army and stuff starts to happen, I find that I don't macro really well, and when I notice, I just spam my unit production buildings. Is there a way that I can practice my late mid/late game macro efficiently?
Hey Trump, just wanted to say thanks a lot for this thread, more than anything it has taught me how to better analyze my own replays, what questions to ask, what mistakes to look for. Someday I may have the guts to post my own replay for you !
Hey Trump! Long time fan, thanks for taking the time to help us out.
Simian, Platinum 20ish.
Marine/Helion vs Ling/Baneling. I transition to banshees once I see the ling/baneling. He transitions to Muta/Ultra backed up by ling/baneling. He takes the W.
I was using your strategy here, scouting out front with the helions, microing both groups (left out marauders incase he went air), but he destorys my 50 food push with those banelings. I think my problem was that I left him alone for so long. Transitioning to banshees took a while. He owned the map by then.
He was a diamond player and I have been having a lot of trouble making the jump to diamond(especially TvT). I can handle most high Plat players and usually a couple low diamond, but its not consistent. Any extra pointers on flaws in my macro or bad micro would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Trump! I'm a gold level player still trying to get to platinum. In this game, I do a standard 3 rax build and scout my oponent going for stargate tech. i try to do a really quick all in as he had no units besides probes. after that first push failed i went to a more Viking/ Marine Combination which was very unsuccessful for me. thanks for any and all the help you've given me! i watch your stream every night.
Hey Trump, I've just started watching your livestream and I recently started to dive into 1v1's. I'm still Platinum as of this post but my opponent was a ~450 Diamond. I actually won this game, but I felt like I played pretty terribly and didn't deserve the win.
I started with MM and spotted his FE late, I tried attacking with what I had and failed. I got an expo down while I was attacking and it transitioned into MM+Tanks vs. blings/slings/roaches. Any tips for dealing with the fast expand (early aggression vs. zerg) and the fine points of my play would be appreciated. Thanks a ton!
Hey Trump. I've moved up to diamond since I last posted in here, but I've been having a lot of trouble. This game is good example of the trouble. We both open 1/1/1 into vikings and tanks. I was a little behind him as I got a tech lab on my barracks earlier than I probably should have, but I smelled an opening for a reaper scout/harrass. He gets ahead of me in tank count, but I'm ahead in vikings, so I start to expand, but never am able to get my natural secured. I tried massing up a bunch of marauders to bust through, but he pretty much contains me the entire game. I pulled a drop and did lots of little cutesy things, but could never really establish myself until he rolled over me when I tried to get down my ramp.
Almost 50 minute TvZ, I went for bio+tanks, he went some roaches, into ultra/ling/muta, later adding in broodlords. I feel like I got a really good advantage when I took out his nat, his hive, and later his ultra den and greater spire, but I still ended up losing in the end
I think my macro was just really bad, and probably poor desicion making (though I'm not sure exactly where) I think i fucked up my micro too but not sure exactly where and how big. I think I just didnt protect my expos enough towards the end, and let him get way too much of a necon, to the point where he would lose a battle and be right back to 200/200.
This is a 28 Min TvT match that i just recently played. I went for a Marine/Marauder build with a slightly quick expansion and he goes fast tech to banshees with Tank/Vikings.
The main issue im having with this is that at 14:16 what would you have done from there if you were in my position? I planned on Using a fast expansion to support my Marine/Marauder/1 Raven and a few dropships build along with upgrades and techs. But at 14:16 when i got thrown off my game and didnt know where to go from there...
I am a Platinum league rank 1, by like 400 points over rank 2, My opponent was a rank 3 diamond Terran. Also, I seem to win against diamond players ~66% of the time, though the system may not like me and not want to promote me. 48 minute game. We both open up with a banshee harass, though my build is kinda bleh (still working on it) He gets the better I would say out of the harass, I then proceed to go MMM while he goes tank viking and I control the xel naga tower and out macro him, though with such a far lead over him, I get a sloppy win.
I'd like to know what I could have done better, I think it was because of my lack of scouting I didn't notice him going BCs when he makes his first push and in knowing that, I would have made more vikings to counter them.
I'm Rank 84 Plat, he was around rank 18 Diamond (or 800 Diamond based on points)
The game started with him doing a really early gateway aggression against me, that I managed to hold off clumsily after I delayed my first raxx because his probe stepped in the way of the building placement. I lost a lot of SCVs to his zealots early on, but managed to defend and pushed him back and contained him followed by me getting an expo. He warp prism dropped me and sniped my main with DTs, but I managed to win the game in the end.
I'd like some commentary on what I did well and what I did bad, as watching through the replay I could notice a lot of things myself, but it'd be nice to have another persons opinion. I felt like my macro especially was panicked and all over the place because of his aggressions and drops up until after the drop which pissed me off and made me go into macro beast mode
Rank 1 (1000+point) Diamond Terran getting absolutely destroyed by a Gold players roach + ling rush. Several of my friends and I have been trying to theorycraft some ways to stop this on blistering sands and are failing miserably, was hoping you could comment in.
I know I had several "small" problems in this match (as I do in all, I am by no means a flawless player), but the degree to which I was owned is so significant that I cannot seem to find a way to counter this.
Rank 56 Platinum Terran. My strategy was varied throughout this whole game. This is a result of the early scouting then playing defensively. The opposing player was doing a strict drop/banshee (cloaked harass).
I know one major problem was that I played almost TOO defensively. I couldn't keep the pressure off me until he slowed down. I also need to work on scv build, base management and macro'ing. I'd appreciate if you could somehow steer me to how I could have pushed back against him early and turned the tides.
I did win this, but I think I should have lost. He had the upper hand.
I got my ass kicked in this Diamond 1v1 game. I scouted the void rays, and somehow ended up getting no AA and then his gateway army just rolled over mine. Don't know what I did wrong, but this was part of a losing streak and I felt this one I was completely confused about losing.
This is a Gold League 1v1 TvT on Scrap Station. I was using a 1-1-1 Tank/Vikings Build. I seemed to have some control and had better macro early on but failed attempts to hold pressure on the opponent turned my expansions on me and while i was still ahead in terms of just pure army strength it seems poor micro and lack of knowledge on how to move my armies properly just let me get crushed and lose the match.. Looking for any tips on how to play this build more effectively as it is helping my APM and is very strong in Terran mirrors. I think I can easily start winning a lot with a few improvements! I know you don't prefer sub platinum games but I think this is a pretty decent game that you might find interesting!
These are the games from page 17 (long overdue - had them uploaded but didn't post them).

(which I think I should have, honestly) I also want to know what you think about my expansion placement.
greetings from germany TR

Most of the times my first push works great and gives me the win but when it goes shit like this I need a backup plan.
What can I do if my first attack fails because shit happens and I need a backup plan, like "if my first push doesn't hurt him bad I'll transition 2 X" etc also I would appreciate it if you could give me suggestions to do differently in my build, generally just as much help as you can think of to give me.
Anyways I think thats all I wanted to say I've been to your stream everyday the last couple of days and Hope that I will be there when you cast my replay!

Thanks
As doing replays from a month old (yes it has gotten that backlogged) would not be very useful, I am going to start this again clean slate style.
I've updated the front page. For time reasons, I will only cover diamond level games now. Those of lower leagues should learn from my analysis of these diamond players as well. Perhaps if someone could help in 'indexing' these "types" of replays (TvT, TvZ, TvP) and then "style / style against" we could have a good library going.
If you have posted your replay previous to this post, you should re-post it if you're still interested in getting that specific replay analyzed. (But again, only covering diamond level games now)
I figured I'd post this, I played Huk in the 3rd round of a tournament earlier and it started beautifully, my initial plan was to play 112, but played scared almost the entire game, dropped a second rax because I was afraid of Huk's normally aggressive play, pushing back the Banshee timing push until after he got HT's out(pushing before is the entire point of the build). Hellion drop went amazingly well and because I screwed my build up I couldn't take advantage of it. Finally, near the end I felt the need to do something, so I set up a 3 medivac drop to pressure him some, but did it without any map awareness at all and it was right when he was pushing. If I had better map awareness I could have likely defended that and continued to transition into Bio + upgrades and abuse the mobility to keep him on his heels.
I've analyzed the hell out of this game myself, but am looking for your take on it, this is my second game against a known player and one that I probably could have won with better play.
At the time of this posting, I am ranked 90 in Diamond.

Im currently a 700pt Diamond Terran Player, my opp AirMax is a 1000pt Diamond Terran Player. My strategy was a basic 1/1/1 Tank/Viking build while he also went 1/1/1 but made early Marauders, Hellions and Medivacs. While i pushed into his base at around 7 minutes he dropped me with 3 Hellions. My reaction to the drop was really slow, but it was still pretty even.
Following that he dropped my main while attacking my expansion. After that i had a huge gas deficit for a while because i forgot to put workers back on gas. At about 24 min i win the ground fight at the Xel'naga watchtower but he had a ton of vikings left and i didnt have anti air. From there i wasnt sure what to do. I decided to attack his gold expo with a PF, which was probably wrong. Had to retreat after taking some siege fire. At this time i was around 30 Supply ahead, but also couldnt directly attack his Tanks while they were near the PF.
So needless to say he caught up by expanding like crazy(which i didnt know at the time, bad scouting). At 31 minutes i decide to attack his SE expansion to force his tanks to come to me so i could engage him out of position. That worked allowing me to kill a few of his tanks, but my following attack on his PF didnt turn out well. I was pretty behind after that and got rolled over in the end.
What i think made me lose in the end was not utilising my advantage the correct way i had in various stages of the game. So what id like to know is what could i have done differently? Also i like to play aggressive in TvT but maybe being more defensive is better?
I went 3 rax mm, with medics and vikings later against zealot/stalker/sentry/colossus/ht, so a common strategy
I think I sucked with ghosts and using emps, storm dodging, and my macro sucked. Also, I know that I got 3 tech labs, when i should have gotten 2 tech labs and 1 reactor, and I prob only needed 1 refinery.
went for a 2rax and factory MMH w/ blue flame push. first push i think i could have microd my MM better and not taken so much damage from the lings. my rax and fac sit idle during our first skirmish. mid/late game it seems that he is always a step ahead and way ahead on macro. thanks. also wondering about the timing on my expansion
Hey Trump Do you think you could upload the replays of earlier today of TvZ and TvT where you went full out marines? I want to try it out and study it a little better. Thank you
I go for a similar build to CauthonLuck, basically standard 1 Tech Rax, followed by a CC, into 3 more No add-on Rax.

Well, by the term "I still feel like something is missing from my gameplay" ... i did not watched the replay, but do you added ghost?
In a TvP game where you have to face lot of HT, ghost with cloak works like charm. In these games you should always be aware if your enemy moves out of his base / trying to attack you (just take watchtower or place a scv / marine in the attack route). I usually have more problems against HTs when i get attacked because his placement is perfect then: zealots in the front, HTs way behind and hard to EMP... so i always try to be prepared.
In the long run, when you have ~4-6 ghosts and cloak ready, try to scan his army, cloak, sneak, emp his HT and lots of other stuff, stim and attack. Most protoss players have there army clumbed together and if you EMP them off guard ... well it works like charm
If you prefer to play bio, you should have a decent amount of medivacs and ghosts.
Remember: - You can do alot of agression with drops - You can snipe HT, pro: HT cant morph to archon - Check your ebay upgrades

I am currently at about 740 Points in Diamond. In this game the P does a few techswitches and I try to adapt to his game. I think I have identified a few problems: I missmicroed my ghosts in the first fight against the HTs and I did not expand before I attacked.
It would be interesting for me to see if you come the same conclusion and if you find any other weaknesses I can improve on
Love your stream, even if I don't like you musik as much
Hi, I am a 700+ point Diamond which is not that good.. anyway I have been playing terran and needed some help. On the replay above, it is one of the game that I messed up even though I have a decent lead... I contained my zerg opponent but eventually he was able to two bases by using infestors to keep me away from attacking him... then he build up ultra and he raped my army.. what should I do better?
Basically I've been trying a really fast factory build into a thor heavy army with whatever it needs to support, I think maybe I played this poorly given spawn spots, and should've gone for something more mobile, I dunno, could use advice anywhere in this match my macro really I think let me down, third expo was too late but I find good zerg harassment just keeps me in my base and I need a load of turrets. I even get turret range upgrade but top tier zergs just keep me playing from behind it feels like, especially on maps like this.
Hello trump, I am a 700+ diamond player and new to RTS in general. After being promoted to diamond i noticed a lot of players started cheesing in TvT. With very little practice against cheese i tend to die to it. The proxy raxx in my base has been especially troublesome, in the replay i managed to fend it of but that may be because he decided to go for a siegetank with siege mode. If he had simply massed raxx and marines i fear i would of lost. How can i better fight off proxy's in my base?
I think my play has some sloppyness and tactical errors in it. In this game I played a protoss, and felt that, even thought I won, he could have beat me if he chose a slightly different unit composition, and did everything else the same. The most difficult thing for me is judging where I am relative to my opponent, especially early, and when to be aggressive. Specific to terran, where should I be muling and when should I be scanning?
He went standard gateway into dts. I went MM ball, then added thors and ravens. I figured he would move to storm, so the thors could soak a lot of that up and I could use hunter seekers to take out large groups of templars and zealots.
Hey, Trump, I just played a game against a ~800 point diamond, even though I'm only in Platinum (this is, legitimately, my only non-placement game so far, as you can see here - EDIT - At least, it was, until I played some more games.....). I was in diamond in the beta, and I'm sure I'll get back there soon.
I screwed up my opening a little bit, but my goal was a 10 rax fast OC opening (since the game was on Steppes of War, and it was a TvP). I scouted a fast cyber, so I made 3 marines, and then started producing Marauders. I got a factory asap, for a 1/1/1 style build. What I noticed was that during his aggressive move on my ramp (obviously had to put down a 2nd gate to get that many units, and I didn't see him take an early 2nd gas, so I knew he had it even though I didn't see it), he targetted my Marines. I expected Void Rays because of that move, so I used a MULE instead of scanning, to get a better economy. My first Viking got there before his first Void Ray came out, and I nearly killed it before it died to some Stalkers. My next few Vikings finished his Void Ray rush off without any problem, and my Marauders + Tanks killed off his Stalkers/Zealots. I felt comfortable to expand, and I scanned and saw a Twilight Council, as well as a lack of light shining from his Stargate. I thought he was getting Blink, or going for some kind of DT/HT build. I pushed to hit before any of those options (other than blink stalkers, since my army would have demolished that pretty easily) could become useful. I did that mainly so I could see it coming sooner, and have the capability to retreat, rather than get caught in a compromising position in my base. It would let me know when he was planning on taking his expansion (since I was scouting for proxy expansions also).
What he did was go for charge, and mass zealots out of 4 gateways. When those first zealots ended up killing my army, I hit a panic mode..... And I lost.....
I felt like I had a huge advantage, and his backward tech switch screwed me up..... I felt like pushing out like that was the smart move, but it backfired on me..... I'm normally the type to sit back until I know I can win the fight..... I'd like to know how a better player would have responded. I think adding in some Hellions wouldn't have been a bad idea (I had 2 more factories on the way, but they never finished ). Some better micro could have helped, as would Stim. Obviously, my mechanics could be improved (both micro and macro), but I think they were pretty decent right until the one decisive battle. I even had nearly double the APM of my opponent, and I'm a pretty low APM player.....
If you skip this, I understand. I just thought I'd give it a shot. And, you yourself already said I have diamond level macro, even though you removed the game already.
diamond 524 3 rax into expand v 2 gate robo. Eventually lost to DT's when I had 4 expansions to his 3 and 70+svc's to his 40. Never really felt like I had the advantage and this caused me to be passive. Never got detection and that lost me the game...AT THAT POINT. I am sure that something earlier could of been done to finish the game earlier.
Diamond level game (im around 900 pts) I start with a 2 rax fast expand then constantly producing marines marauders and ghost and a few medivacs (maybe that was my error?) Pretty good game overall but i felt i could have won it Maybe i lost to many units to storm? (lack of micro?) lack of ghost (emp)? Lack of aggression? Or was it only my terrible mistake at the end ? (28:00)
Thanks Trump
*btw he does not perform his famous dual stalker fast voidray build so don't download it for that *
edit: BTW i do gg but after the game, we are friends and it wasn't bad manner
if its in the first page maybe (not sure) you wont be able to watch them because they are older versions since today sc was patched. Although i think if you send them to ur replay folder and open in from inside (by opening starcraft> replays) you will be able to watch it
edit: if the replay is from beta (which may be) then i dont think you will be able to watch it, if not im pretty sure you will be able edit 2: the first posts are from may so they are from beta, which im 90% sure they wont work (not 100% sure, someone correct me)
1/1/1 trying to secure a fast expand with marines/tanks, made a few micromistakes in the early game but am able to recuperate from that. Afterwards it develops into a rather long macro-oriented game. I think it is decided by me having the wrong unit composition in the end, should have had more hellions and medivacs in order to sustain my army and deal with the zealots. Maybe a few marauder drops would have tipped that game in my favor as well.

yes in order to 'catch up' and be recent
also, with the new advent of the 1.1 patch I actually am going to have to say that all replays posted prior to this post will not be game. Apologies - it's both outdated and also a bit of a pain to load. If you did post a 1.1 game then feel free to just repost it.
A couple of you wrote detailed posts. I feel bad. But yeah.

Great stream, I try to watch as often as I can. I'm a gold player (roughly 1000 points) and I'm on the verge of getting into platinum. But I've been struggling lately and I can't seem to pinpoint where I'm going wrong. I started off doing a 3 rax attack at 50 food, but have now transitioned into a 1/1/1 type of build.
I'm trying to setup an early banshee harass strategy against protoss. It was successful for me at first, but now things like this are happening where my 1/1/1 is failing due to a solid push by the opponent. How do you successfully pull this off and yet be able to defend your entrance?
Are my build orders that messed up? Maybe I scouted his attack too late.

Hey there, first of all, I'm a high platinum, the game is me vs a 1350 diamond, and I could be diamond too if I played more ladder (I play mostly customs/tourneys and can beat some diamonds), so please judge this before you say no.
In the game (TvZ), I go 1-1-1 into MMM+tank. The opponent went for standard 14gaspool, and tried to fake roaches while making mutas+ling/bling.
I think my biggest problem isnt macro as for low level players, but more like I can't keep the zerg under pressure as T and I'm generally bad against banelings, also I can't find a good way to counter muta harass (turrets or vikings arent cost effective and thors suck against them), I also don't like 5rax reaper because I find it cheesy, and dont like mech because of veeery low mobility.
TvZ game. Went for hellion drop, which failed. Opponent went heavy mutas to start, I went marine heavy, with vikings. Sent the vikings out to scout for expos, and killed 1, but my vikings died to mutas before escapting. Made a mid game push, which died and I ended up behind the rest of the game.
Should I have made the mid game push, or gone for expansions? I'm guessing that once he got to ultras, there was nothing I could do at that point, I needed to make up lost ground well before.
I find that transitioning after a failed drop is difficult, and I have trouble with what unit composition works best in a cross map battle against mobile units.
Hey Trump, I'm a ~900 Diamond and right now, i am constantly losing against the same protoss build. I attack with a couple of marauders and a hellion and do some damage, then i retreat to go for a raven and banshees and when he comes at me he crushes me with one or two Immortals.
Maybe i should have gotten Ghosts but i feel the Raven is necessary and i dont know if i can afford an additional tech heavy unit.
Diamond 1300~ I open up with a 1 rax FE. I scout that he has not expanded and predict an allin attack. I lose at my natural. I probably should have microed and also pulled scvs off the mineral line to fight.
the angle that you fought him gave him the advantage while some of your units weren't firing in battle while he got a solid concave. Also, you didnt stim until you only had about ~10 units left. Your food was higher before the battle engaged but you also had 3 vikings unable to do anything in battle.
Game from @Zsl tournament ran by a member of my guild. 37 min. T v Z
I'm aware my macro is very poor and my apm is not enough to keep up production but i think the overall strat i used was original and i would love to hear how i can improve
