Has Terran evolved into a race centered around harassment? I've seen threads and videos about reaper harass, Hellion harass, medivac harass, and banshee harass. It seems like the race is now a predictable marine/marauder main army with an unpredictable army for pure harassment and annoyance(medivac-ghost nuke drop lol). I feel like this is the case and that the other races are going to have to see them as the new zerg as far as finding their tech goes. They have view of the whole map(scan) but can easily harass to keep you in your base and hide their tech for what harassment they are going next. Does TL have a different point of view? If so I would like to hear it.

Harass has never been race-specific. Harassment is something that's always been apart of the game, no matter your race; it's a key fundamental to...well...being good.

BW had:
Protoss: Reaver/HT drops
Zerg: Lurker drops, muta harass
Terran: tank/vulture/goliath drops, vulture raids

I would have to agree as well. Terran definitely has a wide range of harassment options available. Against Protoss, a terran player definitely needs to utilize harassment to the fullest since a mid game protoss army can fare pretty well against a mid game terran army. I haven't seen enough TvZ to have much of an opinion, but I'm sure it's a similar scenario.

I think players are currently just focusing on the shiny and aggressive elements of gameplay. I've seen players rape with hellions and I've seen players rape hellions, so every situation is different. The lasting effect is to what degree can players play strong harass and still be viable in the mid-lategame. If it is viable, then opponents will need to adjust their strategy for defensive play (before obs come out) to remain robust.

I don't think that just because everyone is doing mass harass that it is the only path for Terran. Some players like to buildup marauders and tanks and make an early push. There are also some turtle strategies (possibly granting fast expansion) that haven't been explored as far as I know.

Give it a couple of years to pan out. :p

Edit to below post: You're right about the marine and medivac inclusion, especially for TvZ. I think I see more tanks (and less medivac, unless there are numerous stalkers) incorporated into TvP though. Nothing is set in stone at this point though.

I haven't seen any TvZ unless you consider from the zerg's view once counting. With the terran not even knowing how to use a medivac or how to lift buildings. You seem to be talking about sc1 for armies becuase in SC2 no protoss has been able to figure out a good way to pwn marauders beside immortals(hard to get out in time)

edit: to poster above me:
isn't it marauders and marines with some medivacs? This and the harassment I mentioned is usually used together to destroy a protoss the terran often gets like 2-3 medivacs and then moves whole armies of marauders(some marines) into the vacs and then drop in the protoss's main/nat. I saw in HDstarcraft's first vod as terran on youtube he dropped with 2-3 vacs into the main and killed most of the gatherers and killed the nex easily. then he did it again with banshees at the nat to harass and the protoss couldn't recover AT ALL vs the terran. He didn't even have any units left that could hit air.

too early to say what each race leans towards. that said, terran harass can be really fun. reapers, hellions, drops, thor drops, banshees, quick nuke drop, using the raven for missile harass +throwing down turrets. all in all, it's lots of fun.

I may just be me, but I tend to play Terran in quite the same way it was played in SC1. Walling, timing pushes, and the occassional bouts of harassment.

nah tvp is gonna be purely about harassment. you cant win an army vs army fight in the midgame vs protoss without a massive advantage.

Everyone has tons of harass options that weren't as readily available in SC.

Like backdoor nydus, stalkers blinking into your base, wrecking shit and blinking out whenever they want. Warping stuff around the map, reapers coming and just leveling shit, medivacs, vikings transforming and flying away, the list goes on.

Sometimes when I watch games I think "wow, I would be afraid to leave my base" there's just so many options open, and they are available at almost any stage in the game, it's not just like arbiters late game.

I don't think it's terran specific, I think the whole game has become very harassment based vs huge army out controlling the map like sc1 is currently about

And a question for Idra/anyone who has played some tvp and isn't a moron: How is EMP in tvp? Is it economically viable going into mid game to have a ghost to throw in emps vs stalker armies?

Keep in mind I have only played around 20 games but terran definitely has that element of harrass. I've had lots of success with early reapers vs P, reapers vs terran arent very good so far early game imo. I've had lots of success with viking harrass vs terran, just drop kill, and lift off. Accumulate like 3-4 with your first port (and without addon making it even more accessible) and there is yet another avenue to gain and advantage through viking peon harrass. As stated above the other races do have rather great methods of harrass, with zerg the weakest imo in this area. Yet they do have the power of doom drops like in sc1.
