Digital Frontier 0.1 132x148 Published on NA/EU/KR

Here, while you're scrolling through the thread, listen to this to get yourself in the mood.
I've wanted to make a Tron themed map for a while, and the recent influx of bright neon themed maps finally motivated me to do it. The layout is my attempt at the Uvantak/Avex "ramp spam" style seen in maps like Echo and Blackpink.
I would've liked to have simply called it "The Grid", but Archvil3 did that over 5 years ago and I'm not going to be a dick and rip off both a map name and theme at the same time.
Features:
- Open expansions mixed with narrow/closed ramps and chokes towards the center
- Many pathways, making army movement and flanking easier than normal
- Badass tron theme with color coded cliff levels
Angled + Show Spoiler +
Details + Show Spoiler +
Tileset + Show Spoiler +Textures: -Skygeirr Lab Inner Grid Small -Black Ops Lab A4 -Ulnar Outer7 -Shakuras City5 -MoebiusLab1
Cliffs: Korhal City Manmade Cliffs
Lighting: Shakuras Temple

I wonder how long it would take before map name entropy became a real problem... Odyssey is a re-used map name for example.
The map looks nice--it has a very clean feel to it.
|
I thought of Odyssey due to Odysseus though, not because of previous works. ![](/mirror/smilies/puh2.gif)
There's no copyright to simple names or words though too, so.
I like the map decently so, but I do think the thirds might stretch a little too far for comfort.

I'm just eagerly awaiting the day we get a map pool consisting of seven different maps named Korhal Station.

I would rather play on/watch zweck's recent offerings, that (while sometimes a little standard for my taste) have some small wrinkles to them. This is so boring and derivative it hurts me.
To its credit, it may play actually play to a more even winrate than Blackpink because it's slightly smaller and has the middle pathway to push straight nat2nat once the rocks have been killed, both of which help TvZ a little, which I think will be Blackpink's worst matchup once a ton of games have been accrued. I still hate this style so much though lol, it's like the autotune of sc2 mapmaking

i've got some more interesting ideas coming up too, maybe i'll even reuse the theme if it fits

N0 finally succumbing to the Apple products of map making, the next TLMC is yours.

I'm just a hater really You should make what you want to make. And if everyone wants this style and I'm the one guy that doesn't like it you probably shouldn't listen to me lol

The people who are most vocal about maps want boring and ultra standard maps. If you want to win money, this is the best way to do it.

I've been a big fan of Tron ever since i was a kid & i think making Tron inspired map is a great friggin idea. I would just like to see MORE TRON! This release as it is provides a great standard layout, but is somewhat lacking in regards to doodads or visual luster. Are there any doodads in the editor someone can use that have that added Tron effect? The colors look good, i just wonder if theres something else out there that can be added to make this map scream Tron more....
Cant wait to play on it, thanks!

Still dont like the area just outside the nat, also looks to have some circle issues

The era of cyberpunk has come. Digital Frontier sounds good, I'm going to use the name cyberspace.

good map, very cool visual design. i love how clean it looks and especially that there is nothing in the background, jsut fog
|
I think if this were in the ladder it would be one of the lesser vetod ones. Thats the goal right? ![](/mirror/smilies/smile.gif)
I personally like it a lot, though as avex mentioned the third looks ever so slightly far away. Too bad you cant use data to animate neutral motorcycles zooming around the pathing lines.

Funny that you chose Odyssey as an example of a reused name. When I saw this map, it made me think of lefix's Odyssey, not the newer one. The layouts are similar, even if you account for all the balance changes and meta changes from then to now.
I loved the layout of Odyssey back then, and I love the layout of Digital Frontier. The expansions here are more dynamic and less static, which is better suited for the current state of the game. I love all the flanking options and various ramps for maneuvering. Having a direct nat to nat path once the rocks are removed allows for aggression and direct supply lines. The other rocks provide more shelter to the safer third and balances out matches with Protoss. The line of sight blockers are positioned in interesting ways, especially on the low ground to provide slight risk vs reward when choosing which way to go around an obstruction. I could go on and on about how this map is excellent.
This map is easily one of my favorites!

funny that both of you brought that up, because as i've probably mentioned before a lot of my maps are basically composites/mashups of a bunch of older maps, and this layout was inspired in part by both the lefix and avex odysseys, among others...

Just gunna put it out there that obviously Odyssey wasnt the original name, just had to make a quick rename decision when IP conflicts got involved with the previous name

The map has a very Tron-like feel to it. Cool!
