Please post to describe your dream come true hero for an RTS setting/gameplay

From any game, be it an ability you love or a gameplay associated with the unit.. the dialog the unit uses.. the model"s look or its attack animation etc.

Furthermore, please add your own appraisal of said hero within the rts genre (belongs in it / cannot be played in multiplayer / requires high micro or macro / etc).

Thank you for your cooperation, i am working on a melee/hero warcraft3 type of map with starcraft spin off theme to it

this is an "up to 8 players" map (so 8 heroes/more are been done)

and i would like people's input/feedback/rant on the "making of a hero"

Well for me meeting the dream in anyway is not knowing what it is really... : P

But Tauren Chieftain from Wc3 is one of my favorites, not much felt better than hitting some combo with other hero be it with stomp or shockwave. Endurance aura which gives you movement and attack speed if i recall correctly feels very empowering to have.

i want a dustin browder hero

abilities:
-destructible rock: spawns a 2000 hp destructible rock
-nerf bat: permanently reduces a unit's stats
-terrible terrible damage: instantly 1 shots any unit

Son of Osiris from Age of Mythology.

Empower ability is very interesting and flexible. Since you have only one of him you should choose where to use him carefully. He empowers:

- a resource collecting building (such as nexus) to increase resource collection rate.
- a fighting building such as a photon cannon to increase damage and rate fire
- a production building such as a factory to faster train units
- a newly constructing building to make it built faster

and he as a devastating AoE lightning attack, so you can decide to use him with your army but you will lose above benefits.

very powerful/versatile/deep hero that requires good decision making. much better than a boring mothership core

The unknown is easily my favorite but that does not seem to be in tune with the current zeitgeist.. players seem generally to want everything outlined and "too easy" to grasp/master in terms of abilities / gameplays the idea that you have to "learn by doing" is not 2016 ..sad really...

Tauren Chieftain: War Stomp is a real standard in rts.. the area "stun" ability and simultaneously position unit in the middle of the brawl is in the top three abilities i think
There is (or will be) a variation of that ability for all tank type heroes <3

i have not started on passive abilities at all :D .. you right i will get to it

Age of E is awesome, i've got no time but i know i'll revisit it soon with my kid i wonder which of aoe or sc2 he'll prefer

That's a good idea (one that is often reffered to) and i'm working on parts of it already (click unit to increase its speed/attack rate/etc. a wrcft "Bloodlust" :D
in the context of sc2 i called it "boost" coz of chronoboost and i want to make it a protoss ability .. doesn't it sound like a toss ability?

The idea is cool but i'm still working on "validators" because obviously if you make it usable on "any" unit it becomes a bit hard for it not to be invincible
for now i was thinking of the hero spawning a minion that can be boosted over and over (boosting other units would only work once at a time) .. to cover all angles of the ability

ps: the concept is for all the heroes to be have massive attacks so that i can make the ai computer opponent very hard and aggressive <3

actually son of osiris's empower ability is used only on buildings (not units), and is a channeling ability, so when he empowers a building he can't do anything else. That makes where to use him a strategical decision, economic, rushing or army

for example in this little picture he is empowering a granary (a small building for putting food in), so he increases the rate you collect food in that granary. as you can see, workers gathering meat from chickens and putting it in the granary. that little shining light above indicates building is being empowered

the mothership core, it can only be used with army (to recall) or left in the base to overcharge pylons. Not much else. The hero above is alot more interesting strategically
