Haha this is awesome, good work sir, I didn't realize you could do stuff like this in the editor (should have realized since it seems like you can do just about anything)

how sad that sc2 has no shield battery :(

Too many want Muta stacking simply because it was in BW, did you actually think about WHY you want it? It was a bug in BW.

Stacking air units gave more control to the player.

And in SC2 you can control them totally fine without them being stacked.

Looks amazing. I really wonder why Blizzard didn't implement this from the start.

Nice, great job man that kicks ass. I would really like to see this in an actual game lol but that means waiting until the publishing patch lol, which hopefully isnt every far away.

Holy shit! My map is in a totally sweetass video! I'm going to take this opportunity to be a total whore and promote my map!

Seriously though, cool video. Can you make the shots bounce? (I didn't read the thread )\
EDIT: After looking more closely they actually do

Sorry for the wait, I was gonna test it again once sc2 installed again but now I just can't be bothered . So I've put it up for download in the OP, in case anyone wants.

They probably did implement it in their alpha versions, hence its ease of creation within the editor. The question is why they chose to go with the behavior they have now, and whether attempting to BW as close as possible is the best route to go for a new game. I think, as many people have states already, that easy stacking in a game with unlimited selection would be outrageously overpowered. Just as if having zerglings be as strong as BW cracklings would be overpowered when the limiting factor from BW (12 unit selection) is gone.

how would muta stacking work in the age of unlimited selection? Like whats to keep you, as people have said, from getting 50 mutas in one stack?

i dunno why people talk about unlimited selection with like 50 mutas in a stack. it's unrealistic to get that many mutas, i could see like yes 12-24 mutas being more reasonable as a stack beyond what was capable in bw, not something immensely huge. but until we see exactly how it plays out in the game i would withhold saying 'OMG IMBA'

I don't think you'd need more than 20ish for it to start becoming ridiculously strong. Once that stack can one shot turrets, cannons, spores, stalkers, etc is when it would start being very strong against anything but thors and fungal growth. Still, it would be interesting if Blizzard tried it out for a patch, I'm not sure if they're still doing "hey let's see what this would do" type of testing, though.

Fungal, Storm, Archons, HSM are all very good counters to a big muta ball.

AOE>Clump.

Most of those are not actually good counters to a muta ball.

I think the above posts call for some tests. Ill post up some videos in a few days comparing the balances between muta-stack-ball vs other (equivalent cost) unit compositions. Hopefully that will quell some of the talk about balance.

Hopefully Ill find someone to try this out with fully. AI is not too flash at the moment, and I don't want to install custom AI (again). Ill probably do this after initial testing. I'm only a top 5 gold when I play frequently, so it would be cool to see how two plats go with this though.

^ Ill probably do that once a few units are microable, see how the game changes, I don't hope to achieve anything apart from quelling my curiosity (for those who would ask).

sluggaslamoo, can you adjust the coalition so it's a bit harder to maintain the clump? The way it works now I can leave the stack clumped like a single unit without too much effort.

If this was done with phoenix's muta's would probably be raped i think :\

Might need a version with phoenix's and muta's being able to stack and see if it's better to have that or just muta's only that can stack that easily.

Mutas are already tough to deal with in PvZ. At the beta's current state with Protoss having like no splash damaging units to air, it'd be near impossible at higher levels. I don't understand why they don't fix the archon splash anyways :|

Ok so I've done them all basically.

Hellion was by far the hardest to implement (the others were pretty easy tbh), no matter what I did it would always stop. So what I did was duplicate the mutalisk and then copied the variables across and it worked perfectly. Ironically it is by far the easiest unit to micro, probably because of the rotating turret and splash.

Pheonix is the hardest to micro, its not that hard but its easy to screw up and ungroup your stack, and if you don't target individual units they will unstack or not do full damage. Also you can strafe shoot which is pretty cool and hard to do, but the most effective is turning 180 degrees because you get instant rotation then, rather than turning, which again will screw up your stack and you end up getting hit with a free volley.

(And yes it attacks completely different to the pheonix in patch 11, you must actually specify when to fire your volley )

I think right now the best way to balance it is lower the rotation, because if you end up turning you unstack your group and it messes you up heaps and you end up retreating or not shooting and dying. At the same time speed should be increased to make it more fun, but also it makes it more challenging to keep top speed.

I couldn't do anything about the stacking, so I'll be working on that probably from now on to see what I can do.

Uploading now, should be done by tomorrow.

Any more unit micro suggestions welcome.

The 0.2 version looks just like BW micro except w/out glaives. Very nice.

All they need to do is fix archon splash a bit, and mutas would be perfectly balanced even if you stacked like 20 of them. Of course you could also use phoenixes to outrange mutas and pick them off w/micro. Terrans and Z have plenty of counters. 2 thors > any # of clumped mutas and fungal growth + hydras

So it's pretty much bullshit when Blizzard says it's impossible to do with their engine. They probably just don't understand how muta micro worked in BW.
